Q: How do i ship my car from Hawaii to Chicago?
Does anyone know the cheapest way??
Thanks !!
A: There are no prices reported for HI to IL but TransportReviews.com reports from IL to HI the cost was $2096 for the shipment.
The vehicle is typically transported via truck to a port in California or elsewhere on the west coast. It is then contracted onto a shipping company with a company like Matson.
You will want to contact an auto transporter in order to handle this shipment. That is of course if you decide not to go with the other advice on here which is just to sell it.
Good luck!
Q: Does anyone know what type of car Robbie Gould of the Chicago Bears drives?

A: saw himget out of an Escalde when he was at Summer Camp at Olivet Nazarene
Q: Which do you think is the cheapest car insurance company in chicago?
A: Typically, insurance rates will vary from State to State and can even vary by ZIPCODE in Chicago!
The best thing to do is call a LOCAL independent agent. Don’t go across town, or to some other city – look for someone CLOSE. Just look in the phone book for the PIA or Big I (Trusted Choice) logos and you will find a professional licensed agent that will be able to help you solve your insurance problems, and give you rate comparisons of several different companies.
An independent insurance agent will normally have a dozen different companies and if he cannot help you, he should be networked with other local agents that can.
Most of the replies on this site say “go to this on-line carrier or that on-line carrier or that 1-800 number” but I’m sure that when you do, you will find some impersonal computer user with a script to work from and you won’t be able to talk with the same person everytime you have a problem!
Good luck, drive RESPONSIBLY and I hope this helps

Q: How much will it cost for me to drive to Chicago round-trip?
If it is 410 miles to chicago, 820 round trip, how much will it cost for me to get there if my car gets 30 mi/gal and gas is $2.40 per gallon?
A: 820 / 30 = 27.333 * $2.40 = $65.6
820 miles / (30 miles per gallon)
the miles cancel out and you’re left with
820 / 30 gallons = 27.3333 gallons for the whole trip
since you pay $2.40 per gallon your total is $65.60
Q: How much money do you think I should have saved up for a move to the Chicago area?
I’m wanting to move to Chicago near the end of the year, and am wondering about how much I should have saved. I don’t have a car and will just be flying in. Any ideas or tips?
A: I don’t think that anyone can give you a definitive answer for this question because there are too many variables that need to be answered, especially the question of where you want to live. If you have selected a neighborhood in the city or suburb, you should look at websites like rent.com or apartments.com for prices and requirements for things like security deposits and first and last months rent. It would also tell you what utilities you may have to pay. If you are going to continue not having a car make sure you are in an area that has access to your job, such as the CTA, Metra, or Pace. Then you can budget transportation expenses.
Q: What is the best way to get around chicago?
I am staying at the Inn of chicago magnificent mile and I will be going to the shedd aquarium and the field museum of natural history. also some other places. I have a 3 year old and I learned that you have to have a car seat in cabs. Just wondering what is the cheapest and best way to get around chicago?
A: The free trolley would have served your transportation needs for free. It had been around successfully for a few years. A budget cut about 6 months ago discontinued it:

A car seat/ stroller would be ideal for your museum trips. Energetic 3 yr olds sometimes get tired of walking.
Taking one on the bus would be impossible, especially if carrying a travel bag and/or purse.
The best way is not the cheapest. The cheapest way is by bus…CTA #146. to both of your destinations. It’s about a 25 min ride. Use the site below to find routes to everywhere else from your hotel:

Or, take the best way… a taxi. You deserve it.
By the way, the Aquarium’s Oceanarium exhibit is closed until May 22:

Q: Has anyone stayed at the InterContinental Chicago?
I am planning a vacation to Chicago in August. The InterContinental and Renaissance Chicago on Wacker Drive are a couple that come up in the price range I want to spend. The Westin on Michigan Ave might also be a possiblity. A good location is important as I want have a car. Thanks!
A: Any of those three hotels will be fine…In price point the Intercontinental is far and away the more luxurious hotel None of them require you to have a car if you are going to bed spending all your tourist time downtown Chcago….YOu are right a groudn zero regardless of which one you choose….YOU can walk form one to the other as a matter of fact….Enjoy your stay here and welcome to Chicago
Q: How can I effectively budget a drive to California from Chicago?
Specifically Chicago to the Bay Area of California.
Estimated miles (via mapquest): 2,157.23 miles
Estimated driving time (via mapquest): 30 hrs., 57 minutes
Is it fair to budget 3-days’ driving at 10 hours’ each day?
Or is it safer to budget 4-days in case I hit construction, delays, etcetera?
I’ve averaged out the gas at $3.75 / gallon for a car with a 12-gallon tank.
2,157.23 miles / 210 miles per tank (estimated) = 10.27 tanks of gas
$3.75 / gallon x 12-gallon tank = $45 / tank x 10.27 tanks = $462.15
I’ve never done this so … please explain a better way.
Thanks.
A: You have a good plan. Something that seems to happen to use quite often is traffic. We get stuck sometimes for hours just moving 1 mile an hour. That wastes a lot of gas. You might want to add an extra tank for things like that. Also you might have to fix a flat or some other thing. Are you eating out or packing food? You can save a lot of time and money by just packing some snacks. Do a lot of coasting! Have a road atlas. Stay on interstates when you can, it’s so much faster. Be sure to have ibuprofen, maalox, pepto, benedryl, and icy hot within easy reach. Keep plenty of bottled water in the car.
Q: I am a future teacher thinking about moving to Chicago after I graduate. What are the costs of living?
I have quite a few questions about living in Chicago and the need for teachers. I am an elementary major with concentration in history. What are the normal salaries for elementary teachers? What are the best districts to teach in? Also, what are the chances of getting a job in teaching in Chicago? As for living in Chicago, what are the costs of living? Where are the best places to live on an educator’s salary? Finally, is it necessary to have a car?
A: I’m not sure it would be a good idea to work as a teacher in the city of Chicago. The schools there are poorly funded and subject to a lot of criticisms, political fingerpointing, downsizing, and strikes. You’d be better off teaching in one of the collar counties such as Lake, DuPage, or Kane. My mother has worked for School District 200 for about 20 years. I believe the salary for elementary school teachers in that district is around $50,000 to $60,000, but the more seniority you have, the more you get paid. For example: my fourth grade teacher makes $95,414. Her daughter teaches in the same district (CUSD 200) and makes $60,597.
In the city, the starting salary for a teacher with a bachelor’s degree is $46,761. With a Master’s degree, it’s $50,000. You would need a car outside of the city, and possibly even within the city. Not everything is quite within walking distance, and the cost of public transportation is on the rise.
The cost of living is not something I’m going to be good at helping with. Some Chicago neighborhoods and communities are quite expensive, while others are quite cheap. One-bedroom apartments start at around $700 per month in the suburbs, and are, on average, 27% cheaper than in the city. Gasoline is currently around $3.50 in the city; $3.25 in the suburbs. A gallon of milk is about $3.50; a loaf of bread is about $2.50.
Q: Is a $60000 salary in Chicago area enough to comfortably support two people?
I may be moving to Chicago (Schaumburg area) from the UK with my wife. My salary will be around $60,000 and I will be there for a year. My wife will be eligible to work – however her experience is in the retail sector.
Is $60,000 enough to comfortably support two people in this area? We would be looking to rent a reasonable apartment, and purchase/rent a car.
Also, would my wife be able to get a retail job easily? How much would a retail job pay?
Any feedback would be appreciated.
A: I would say yes. My husband and I don’t even make half that – combined and we’re able to have a car, a place to live, go out about every 2 weeks, etc.
It depends on the person. Some people are only satisfied if they live in the best neighborhood and they’re willing to pay $2000 a month for a 1 bedroom in Lincoln Park. Others are satisfied with a 2 bedroom in an affordble safe suburb paying more like $800. I’m not real familiar with apartment prices in Schaumburg but I’m guessing it would be about $900-$1100 for a 1 bedroom. I think you could live comfortably with what you make and you’d be fine if your wife works but I wouldn’t suggest doing retail. She’d be better off doing administrative work or something.
Someone said that she won’t make more than $15 per hour unless she’s a manager! Please…the managers don’t even make that much. I went to an interview for an assistant manager position at Nine West and they told me the assistant manager makes $9.50 – $11.50 based on experience. Most sales people are paid about $7.75 – 8.50 and usually with no commission.
The bottom line is – depending on how you spend your money, yes, that should be enough at least until your wife finds a job too – but working retail will probably be like “chump change”.
Q: Where can I get long term Chicago parking for less?
I am moving to Chicago for a few months (5) and I am brining my car. I am living and working downtown so I won’t need it most of the time. Parking there is $200+ per month. Are there any garages outside downtown that I can take the train to when I need it and pay a lot less? Please help, I need a better alternative.
A: Look at places in the West Loop, around Greektown (Halsted St.). There are a bunch of new lofts and condos opening up there and there is bound to be someone putting in new parking lots to accomodate all of those cars. Some condo buildings rent out space to the public. If you are living and working downtown, you’re not that too far away from Greektown. Not sure how much it costs, but the further away, the cheaper it will be. But $200 sounds pretty cheap to me already. Below is a link to a website called Chicago Parking Map that shows most of the parking lots in the city. It might be a good place to check.
