Q: How do drummers in Chicago move their drum set around?
I’m a drummer moving to Chicago soon. I was told not to bring my car because of the lack of parking. If this is true how do drummers get gear from place to place? Do you bite the bullet and find parking?

A: You can move it with your car. All the places that hire musicians have parking space to unload. Now, you are not specifying if you already have your space.

If you do, then carry the drums to your apartment. Simple. Their is parking space in chicago bTW.

Q: where can i rent a mustang in chicago?
I want to rent a mustang or camaro for a couple days. im in the northside of chicago. where are cheap rental car places that i can rent such a car for a day or two?

Please provide the site if you could.

A: Well just know the best place for you where you can get best cars on cheap rates that to with the best of service. Go to http://www.usacarsrental.com/ and get the best service on offer that to at very nominal rate. USA car rentals provide service round the globe. One more suggestion book the car well in advance to avail best of service as later there might be availability problems.

Q: What is a fun thing for families to do in Chicago and Detroit?
We are taking a car trip, two kids, 12 and 6 to Chicago first then to see family in Detroit. Looking for fun things to do in each place as well as in between.

A: Get mugged! LOL!

I jest. Chicago has the Field Museum, Sears Tower (which I highly recommend), Museum of Science and Technology (very hands on), and numerous art museums. The Detroit Museum of Art is actually pretty kid-friendly, and they have a great zoo. Both cities have baseball games as well.

Q: Is there light rail from the O’Hare or Midway airport to downtown Chicago?
We are planning a little day trip to Chicago by traveling by plane. So without a car, is there a light rail that would get us into the heart of downtown Chicago? Can you provide any links or anything that gives additional information like sites we can see and things like that which are all on the rail line? We don’t want to pay expensive cab fares or have to rent a car.

A: Light rail? Heck, no, you take the El, Chicago’s subway.

The Orange line runs from Midway to the Loop, and the Blue line runs from O’Hare to the Loop. At both airports you can easily walk from the plane to the station.

The fare is $2.25. What a deal.

Q: Is there certain planes that are big enough to carry cars?
So I was wondering if there’s certain planes that can carry cars because Im moving to another state and it would be nicer to fly instead of driving because Im moving from Tacoma Wa to Chicago Illinois

A: Put an ad on Craigslist and hire someone to drive the car there for you – just make sure you check out their driver’s abstract and get extra insurance.
Personally, I would drive south from Tacoma to Sacramento and get onto Route 66, and drive it all the way to Chi-town

Q: Going to Chicago: is it worth it to stay in Evanston?
I’m going to Chicago with the boys for a weekend in summer. Looking for hotels. We’re planning on spending most of our time in the city but will probably rent a car to check out some outside of Chicago stuff. I’m considering hotels in the heart of Chicago versus something more suburban. Any thoughts on me staying in Evanston instead of downtown Chicago?

A: I would opt to stay in the city when you tour Chicago. Everything the boys will want to do is in Chicago. Why drive in traffic everyday and waste two hours there and back to Evanston?

Here are some family-friendly hotels:

Essex Inn
Red Roof Inn on Ontario (enter in Chicago in search box)
Hampton Inn downtown

You and your family can zip around on the city on the “L” train. It’s easy to learn the color-coded system.

Some things to do:

Navy Pier -ride the largest Ferris Wheel in the country and free fireworks Wed at 9:30 and Sat at 10:15pm.

Starting Jul 2 you can step out onto the “Ledge”, a glass shelf attached to the Sears Tower.

Lincoln Park Zoo is free and right on the lakefront.

The Shedd Aquarium lets you get up close and personal at the “Tidepool” . This is also one of the best places for photo ops, as it juts out onto the lake.

Millenium Park – eat at an outdoor cafe and take pictures against the giant “Cloudgate” mirrored sculpture.

Eat at Ed’s – Ed Debevic’s is a kid-friendly 1950s-diner style restaurant that has funny waiters.

The Museum Campus, aside from the Shedd, you can see “Sue” the dinosaur outside the Field Museum and watch the Sky Show at the Planetarium.

For a down day at the beach, head to North Ave Beach or Oak St. Beach.

Dont forget to get your pic taken at Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park . At dusk and throughout the night there’s a light show.

Q: Why Did Obama Compare People To Cars Yesterday?
Obama said that when you get your car fixed but it still doesnt work and have to bring it back they don’t charge you again- BS! They sure do!
Then he said- it should be the same when you go too the doctor, if he doesnt fix you the first time you shouldnt have to pay the second time.. WHAT THE? Are doctors in Chicago really that bad? How did Obama end up in this BUBBLE? WEIRD? No doctor is behind this- this is nonsense!

A: That’s the way it works at the VA. Any condition that can’t be fixed in one visit is never treated again. Veterans with difficult diseases are sent home without treatment. I know because I’m one of them. Obama obviously knows this and thinks its a good idea. If you can’t be made healthy, he will not waste any more money on you. It happened to me, now they are offering it to you.

Q: What is a good Chicago Metra station to park at?
My sister and I are traveling to Chicago next weekend. We’ll be driving down from Milwaukee on Friday, going to the Cubs game in the afternoon, and then staying at a hotel downtown. I’d like to park my car at a Metra station, and ride that train down to Wrigley, since we can’t park it at the hotel until we check in at night. Any suggestions on a safe, affordable Metra station to leave the car at on a Friday afternoon- ideally one on the north side of town and fairly easily accessed from the freeway? Thanks!

A: I’m not from Chicago, but we usually use the Cumberland station.
It’s just one stop off the airport (so more chance of getting a seat) and if I remember correctly you can ride that train pretty much at any time (so no long waits). They have covered parking (we’ve never had an issue with safety). It’s right off the highway and it’s right before you hit the heavy congestion of the downtown area.

You can go the website to determine what would work best for you….

Q: How can I look up Chicago police reports that were recently written?
Like written last night.

Something went down with some teenagers on the middle of my block late last night. I don’t know exactly what happened, but I saw about 8 police cars and someone getting put into an ambulance.

How would I be able to look it up online and find out what may have happened? Of course, it was not on the news or anything, as with many other acts that happen in the inner city. But seeing as how many police cars were at the scene I figure there must be some type of public records.

A: if you call 311 and ask for a copy of the report they will provide it because it is public info under the freedom of information act…it will take a while to get mailed to you though. i dont know that you can access it online for a while either though.

Q: What is the cost of living in London compared to Chicago?
I’m looking to relocate, and have been trying to learn just how big the difference in cost of living would be moving from Chicago to London. In Chicago, I do not own but rent an apartment downtown, nor do I have a car.

Anyone have any ideas or resources?

Thanks!

A: I live in Chicago and have visited London. For comparable neighborhoods I’d say London is about 50% more expensive.

Q: I have to go to Chicago. How do I get around there without a car?
I have to go to a big meeting at the Marriot hotel for 3 days. The rooms are all booked, so I have to pick another place to stay. How do I go about getting around in this big city? I am from rural America and plan on going up on an Amtrak.

A: Chicago is indeed a big city, but is also highly accessible to those who lack cars. We have a number of taxi services (your hotel, wherever you end up staying, should be able to call you one, or you can do a Google search in advance for Chicago taxicab companies) and our rail and bus systems, called the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority). The CTA has a fantastic website, and you can plan your routes in advance, if you like. Just click “Trip Planner” on the top right-hand side of the page to enter your beginning and destination addresses, and the page will provide you with a number of possible itineraries.

Good luck!

Q: What is the best way to get from Saint Louis to Chicago in less than two days?
I would like to leave Saint Louis, spend several hours in Chicago (preferably in the afternoon) and leave Chicago all in the same day. However, I don’t have access to a car. I want a reliable, generally on-time way to get there.

A: That’s tricky without a car. What about the MegaBus? It typically offers a 1:00 am-ish departure…so you’d sleep on the bus and be in the city by the early morning. then you can take it back that evening!

Depending on the day you want to travel, you can get really incredible rates.

Or you could rent a car.

Amtrak has departures between the two several times a day as well.

And Southwest Airlines offers inexpensive fares at multiple hours of the day in and out of midway.

Q: What are some furniture stores in Chicago that deliver?
I’m moving to Chicago in January and am not taking anything but clothes (basically) with me. I will have a studio apartment I need to furnish, but will be without a car and as a single female probably won’t have a way to lug furniture/assemble it myself. Anyone have suggestions? Looking for possibly a sleeper sofa, desk, chair, etc.

Thanks!
Also, I don’t have a huge budget and really need something that DELIVERS!

A: On a budget, IKEA. If you go to the store you can arrange for everything to be shipped for one price-whereas if you buy it online and have it shipped-it’s by the pound.
Also, value city furniture. Although I’ve found that they always are out of stock on something and you have to wait days before it’s available to ship.

Those are the only 2 if you have a very limited budget.
