Q: Are there any Wal-Mart or discount stores in Chicago?
I just moved to Chicago and I have a few questions about the city.
FYI, I’m currently staying on South King Drive with my cousin but I’m moving to N.Sheridan Rd. in two weeks.

1. Is there a Wal-Mart in Chicago?
Since I don’t have a car yet, please let me know how I can get to a Wal-mart by using CTA buses or the L.
If there are more than one Wal-Mart in Chicago, please refer me to the one that is closer to South King Drive and easier to access with public transportation.

2. If you know any other huge discount stores (equivalent of Walmart) in Chicago, please let me know how I can get there.
(Also, the one closer to So.King Dr. and easier to acces by CTA)

A: This is the Walmart closest to where you are currently living:
Wal-Mart Store #5485
2500 W. 95Th St.
Evergreen Park, IL 60805
(708) 229-0611

This is the Walmart that will be closest to you when you move, the only reason why this one is the closest is because its within the city limits, but in reality its really far and not a good neighborhood:
4650 West North Ave
Chicago (W), IL 60639
(773) 252-7465

Theres this other Walmart than can be closest to you on your new place, but the problem is that its considered a suburb, there should be public transaportation available:
5630 Touhy Avenue
Niles, IL 60714
(847) 647-8641

Check out Targets Website, they have several location in the city, I think Target is your best bet once you have move to your new place.

Check out the public transportations website under the trip planner, this will give you step by step on using public transportation to and from wherever you want to go.

Q: If pictures could tell a story?
These are a few of the pictures I use to help with imagery in my story. Just by looking at them in order, what would you guess my story is about? The person who’s closest to the actual plot of events wins best answer
And since I don’t want to just give away best answer to someone who has been reading my story..I’ll be tougher on them

So look at this pictures in order (I have placed them in order of how they appear as parts of my story) and tell me what you think my book is about (what genre and what you think happens in it):

www.zastavki.com/pictures/1280×800/200…

A: The third and fourth pictures won’t go on my computer, but I’d guess something along the lines of a person who lives on the farm or misses their farm. Maybe mythological by the looks of the first picture…I’d have a better guess if I could see the other two.

Q: find a man killed named lamar or lance in chicago about 5 years ago?
His name was lamar but went by the name lance he use to live in the 70’s in chicago on green st. i was told he was thrown from a car on to the express way about 4 years ago. He had to be between the ages of 22 to 27. He was a friend and i was trying to see if it was any thing about it in the news so i can make sure it was him.Or can some one can tell me a way i can find this info on line some way if posilble.

A: Search Newspaper Archives like Chicago Tribune or Sun-Times.

Q: How is the transportation?
I plan on moving to Chicago this fall. I am wondering if I should take my car. Will I need it? Is public transporation used alot and by many? I have a Honda- will my car last during the very cold winters?
Thanks

A: You don’t need a car but it’s nice to have if you’re living in a building with parking or a neighborhood with decent street parking. Not sure if you’re planning to rent or buy, but in a lot of apt buildings, you have to pay from $50-$270 per month for parking. And if you’re looking to buy, some buildings come with parking and others will cost you around $30k extra to buy a space. This is more common with buildings downtown. When you get away from the high-rise buildings, parking is often included or it costs much less.

Personally, I only use public transportation to go downtown for work or events where there are going to be lots of people. For getting around, grocery shopping, going to other neighborhoods, I typically drive. But you can definitely survive without a car if you live in a neighborhood that has everything that you need (shopping, restaurants, etc.).

I’ve lived in Chicago for eight years and my Saturn has held up fine even through the winters — and that includes a few years when I didn’t even have outdoor parking.

Q: My car door won’t close. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
So it’s winter in Chicago, and it’s below 1 degrees outside. I had to go outside, but it was so cold that my car door froze in place. I pulled it forcefully open, but now it won’t close. I think it has to do with the spring, because there used to be this tiny hook that closes in on a metal bar to secure the door, but now the hook doesn’t clamp shut. Can anyone help???

A: Drive’er down here & it’ll thaw in afew days. Was 68 today here in GA. =^ )

Q: i live in naperville, i want to get to chicago, by train, wich train do i use?
i dont have a car…

A: You need to go to the train station located on 105 E. 4th St. There you will need to take the Metra, which is on the BNSF line. DO NOT take an Amtrak downtown from Naperville. Both companies (Amtrak & Metra) have an agreement about making people take a Metra if they are not transferring to another Amtrak. Let me warn you ahead of time that parking there is a pain in the @ss. Either have a parking pass or get there later than 9:00 am to pay a $1.00 fee.

You can check the train schedule at the following link:

http://metrarail.com/Sched/bn/bn.shtml

Q: what kind of oil should i use in my 1998 audi a6 2.8 quattro?
its at 100,000miles and i just bought this car and i dont know if the previous owner used synthetic or not so mobile suggests i use mobile 1 0W-40 will this be ok in the summer time and winter? im in chicago and summer is almost here what do u guys think?

A: 5/30 is but 10/30 will work. Mobil 1 is always a plus. Make sure what ever you use it meets VW/Audi standards for 1998. API-SJ, API-SL, API-SM

Q: Are you happy for those in Chicago that can finally protect themselves from the Obama supporters?
Reporting from Washington —
The Supreme Court reversed a ruling upholding Chicago’s ban on handguns Monday and extended the reach of the 2nd Amendment as a nationwide protection against laws that infringe on the “right to keep and bear arms.”

The 5-4 decision appears to void the 1982 ordinance, one of the nation’s strictest, which barred city residents from having handguns for their own use, even at home.

http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-court-guns-20100629,0,7786166.story

At least two weekends in a row have been marred by multiple killings. For many Chicagoans, the breaking point was last Wednesday, when a 20-month-old girl was shot in the head while in a parked car on the South Side. The alleged gunman, who turned himself in, was reportedly aiming for the girl’s father.

As of last Sunday, Chicago tallied 113 homicides for 2010, compared with 101 for the same period last year.

http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2010/0427/Homicide-rate-jumps-in-Chicago-Daley-pushes-for-more-gun-control

Chicago has MORE homicides than a WAR ZONE on a DAILY basis, oh did I mention that is where Obama calls “home”

A: “The 5-4 decision…”

One vote separates us from liberal enslavement.

Q: Owning a motorcycle in Chicago?
I’m thinking about going to Moody Bible Institute, and would also really like to get a motorcycle, but I’m not sure if that would be smart. I’m guessing that riding a motorcycle in the city wouldn’t be fun, so I’d probably just use it for longer trips. Do you think it’s a good idea to own a motorcycle in any big city, and Chicago in particular? Would I be able to manuever in traffic within the city more or less easily than if I had a car?

Another similar question is, since I’m a young girl would it be safe for me? It’s not like a car where you can lock your doors.

Thanks for your help!

A: that place is close to where the Cabrini green site was. it’s still a bad part of town to get caught in. a scooter is OK for the north side but you have to pay someone to let you store it somewhere. A larger motorcycle is tough to store on the north side. public transportation is pretty good though.

Q: Smoking ban Chicago, are your eyes open?
Are we being purposely being misled or this ban just a sick coincidental display of how dumb our government leaders truly are? Case in point- the smoking ban in public places (i.e. bars and restaurants which serve alcohol). Where are their heads? Are you kidding?!
In U.S. (2006), 17,602 people died in alcohol-related crashes (one every 30 minutes) – 41% of the 42,642 total traffic fatalities. Three in every ten Americans will be involved in an alcohol-related crash at some time in their lives. Approximately 1.4 million drivers were arrested in 2004 for driving under the influence. That’s 1 for every 139 licensed driver. Alcohol-related crashes in the US cost the public an $114.3 billion in 2000, including $51.1 billion in monetary costs and an estimated $63.2 billion in quality of life losses. People other than the drinking driver paid $71.6 billion of the alcohol-related crash bill, which is 63 percent of the total cost of these crashes. Alcohol is a mood altering drug which may include increased aggressive/abusive behavior, impaired judgment concerning sexual promiscuity, and the use of protection to reduce the spread of STD’s. Each year, up to 40,000 babies are born with some degree of alcohol-related damage. These include mental retardation; learning, emotional and behavioral problems; and defects involving the heart, face and other organs.
Each year in Chicago (pop. 2,898,374) there are 598 murders, 4078 forcible rapes, 17,302 robberies, 19,784 aggravated assaults, 25,064 burglaries, 96,779 larceny or thefts, 22,779 car thefts, and 947 arsons.
You’re more likely to be raped, murdered, robbed or assaulted than you are to die from 2nd hand smoke. Complain about something real!!

A: Actually the anti smoking movement was started by the Nazis. They were the first to use bogus studies and etc to force people to bend to their will. It is odd how some people see this as good since it is destroying the rights of the people. I suppose the Nazis saw the Jews disappearing and thought it was good to.

Q: Help! We are going to Chicago this weekend & need a large suv?
Okay so this weekend we are going to chicago to pick up some priceless antiques. I will not ship it. It is an antique large table lamp, 2 end tables, and a large about 5 foot by 3 foot painting, and I went to enterprise and I need a large suv at the least, and they want $150 a day and we are leaving saturday and they are closed sunday and monday, so we have to take it back tuesday, and they wont give us a discount bcuz labor day or whatever day it is. and it has to be this weekend only. what is the cheapest car rental place in woodriver,il or near there, i really need a large suv, is there a way to get discounts? the co manager said no. – and im not going on craigslist & we dont no anybody around here with a large suv, and a van, the gas would be to expensive. i dont really want a van, but i would take it if its cheaper than an suv. and i will not take a truck bcuz i would end up with things broken. and i cant fit 4 people comfortable on a 6 or 7 hour trip. i tried amtrak- they dont take furniture or fragile & its too expensive. and i wont go on craigslist bcuz this is also a family relaxing trip. please give me answers i can use.

A: You limited your options by travelling with your family on a holiday weekend, and asking for advice three days before you intend to leave. It might cost you less to lose pay on a workday, pick up a truck on a Thursday morning, drive down by yourself, load the truck, take a nap, and drive back late Thursday night. Return the truck Friday morning.

Q: Can I have my husband deported if I discover he used me for a green card?
My husband and I have been married for less than two years and in this time I have found some very disturbing things about our relationship. Like he lies and puts profiles on internet advertising that he is looking for a woman. He chats online and has quit jobs making me pay for things and telling me not to pay my credit cards. He has dragged me all over the country so I can never keep a steady job. I moved with him to Chicago and I got sick with bronchitis and he refused medical treatment for me but was able to afford a 42 inch flat screen tv. He would not help me with my car payments and just told me to call the bank and have it taken away. My credit is shot and I no longer have a vehicle. Now he refuses to give me any money since I have moved to a new city and have been struggling to find a job in this terrible economy. He has also become verbally and physically abusive a little everyday. I just want to know if he is still in this conditional green card status is there any thing I can do? Oh and by the way, he is not destitude in any way. He makes $80,000.00 a year now thanks to my stupidity!

A: Divorce him, report the deception to the USCIS and don’t sign any paper when he will file for Removal of Conditions with his green. He will not be able to renew his green card and will face deportation if he will stay beyond his present green card validity.

Q: How to Shipped liquid outside US?
Hi, I’m from Indonesia, and i’m wondering how to ship liquid product from Chicago to Indonesia using USPS?
What I’m about to ship is car care product like car soap, car wax, car polish, etc. The quantity/weight is around 50lbs.

Thanks for answering

how to contact upsp?

A: Call USPS or FED EX they will be able to tell you also the shipping price.

Q: Isn’t just waiting in line for 30+ minutes to pay a toll pretty much just contributing to pollution, etc, et?
I waited at LEAST 30 minutes to pay a toll in Chicago and I couldn’t see an upside to this fiasco whatsoever. First it contributes to: polluting the environment (ie: 1,000’s of cars just sitting there idling for long periods of times), road rage, near missed accidents, waste of gasoline which is supposedly in high demand right now and sky high gas prices. I just don’t undestand this at all maybe because I don’t live in the Chicago area but it’s like we are being punished while having to wait to pay a toll. Isn’t there a better way?? And, no, noone hardly at all uses the ipass. 99.9% of the cars had to pay cash like me. Why doesn’t Chicago (and other citiies) try and alleviate these needless things instead of aggrevating these things?
Does anyone feel like me!!!!???

A: i agree completly .. they really need to speed up the process of this because countless cars waste alot of fuel waiting to pay a toll and sometimes all the ipass lanes are shut..it was better when all the toll roads had booths in each lane,,and there was someone wrking in each one most of the time

Q: what midtown madness games do you prefer?
out of all the midtown madness games out there, i think the 1st one was the best one out of them all. i liked the inside cab views of the cars, they had a brillant selection of cars to choose from. graphics were good for the day (2000) also the city ( chicago) was a good desitnation to choose from.
I though Midotwn Madness 2 was quite good. had a good selection of cars and nice interiors of them cars aswell. the cicites they had chosen to use which was london and san fracnsico was okay. even though there are better cities out there. graphics for this game are average even though they could of been better.
The 3rd midtown madness game was goo, had good graphics, nice selection of cars. down sides though were they got rid of the cab interiors so you didnt feel the realism anymore aand the cities they had chosen for the game were crap.

A: yes i agree………………………..
have you heard of grand turismo for ps3, full 1080p resilution high def, fantastic graphics!!! real life cars and vibrent colors!!!

Q: i have a 87 chevy caprice with 83,000 miles on it should i change the trans fluid or no?
it says in the original manual change the trans fluid every 15,000 miles if the car is mainly driven under one or more of these conditions:

in heavy city traffic where the outside temp is regulary reaches 90f or higher
in hilly or mountanious terrain
frequent trailer pulling
uses such as found in taxi police car,or delievery service.

to answer that is no to the above maybe stop and go traffic but thats normal…and as for the weather its always changing cold to warm now so i dunno what to do? im in chicago… it says if you do not use your car under any of these conditions change both the fluid and filter every 100,000 miles…. so should i change it at the 100,000 mark? cause i dunno when it was last changed?

A: yes you should change it,

Q: i have a 87 chevy caprice with 83,000 miles on it should i change the trans fluid or no?
it says in the original manual change the trans fluid every 15,000 miles if the car is mainly driven under one or more of these conditions:

A: change the fluid and filter now, I would never let a car go 100,000 miles before the fluid was changed, I change mine at 50,000.

Q: Should I live with my aunt?
Okay so my options are aunt, parents, or possibly sister.
My parents are both alcoholics, and my dad is a homophobic jerk. We live in a suburb of Chicago – hate the suburbs, but LOVE Chicago.
My aunt, her husband, and her daughter all say I can live with them. They live in Southern California, near San Diego…None of them know I’m gay, (I don’t know how they’ll react). Also, they’re emotionally stable, not drunks, have real jobs.
I’m 18 and going to be turning 19 in July. I’m trying to convince my sister to let me live with her in her apt., it’s in Chicago city so I could easily afford rent by not using a car. But she keeps telling me I should go live with my aunt…
So should I live with my aunt, parents, or keep trying for my sister??? I know you’re complete strangers, but please tell me anyway!
i’ve lived w/ my parents for a year and commuted to school…they’re literally crazy and i’ve tried convincing them to get therapy, go to rehab – my mom did once but it didn’t work. i’m ready to give up. if i live with my sister, she always has more roommates than actual rooms just to pay rent, and one of them is moving out.

A: I say the aunt and her husband are the best bet. It sound like you need some stability in your life right now. Maybe you could get the emotional support you are lacking at home right now.

Q: Do I trust my fiance, a coworker (woman) offered to loan him her car.?
OK, maybe I don’t trust my fiance. Here is the story my fiance is in the Military and lives in Utah I live in Chicago (till Aug) I am here in Utah and we are driving back to Chicago and then to Oklahoma .It’s a long trip and he has a large double pick-up truck gas prices are up. Just today and a day before a trip he tells me a woman at work he was talking to said he can use her car . Who does that? A woman he’s been seeing behind my back or a woman who might like him or am I over reacting. Something doesn’t seem right in my gut.

A: You obviously don’t trust him, so why are you marrying him? Of course people lend their cars to each other. Obviously she trusts him a lot more than you do.
Sounds to me like he’s not the only with issues of fidelity. You are!

A: I think it’s disgusting the way your family treats you, but I think they may be feeling homesick too because of their sudden change in attitude towards you. I’m sure that there are at least a couple of people at your school who will give you a chance! Just be friendly at school and try talk about things that interests them. I also think you should talk to your parents about the way they treat you, like, really talk! They must be feeling stressed out and are taking it out on you. Just stay out of your parents and sister’s way for a bit.

Q: What to do? Brand new mom having problems with fiance?
Here are the facts:
I have a 10 week old little girl with my fiance of 2 years.
He is 23 and I am 28. We moved across the country (LA to Chicago) about 6 months ago to be around (my) family with the new baby. His family is about 400 miles away.
He has a problem keeping a job. Since we have been together he has been unemployed 4 times for 3 weeks to 2 months. I have always supported him. His credit is terrible and mine has become much worse since we got together. I have decided to move back in with my mom so I can pay off debt and improve my credit score. At first he was going to rent a room from someone and we were going to stay together. I wanted him to prove to me that he could be independent. I am sick of being responsible for him. I found out he had written his ex saying she still looks good. ( we have had this problem before and he promised he wouldn’t talk to her anymore) I also saw an email where he replied to a girl that contacted him about hooking up…He said sorry sweetie, I am engaged. but you are cute and I have never done anything with anyone who only had 1 picture. Put more up and who knows what might happen. Hit me back…… He says he will do whatever it takes to show me he loves me and the baby. But I don’t know if this is repairable. I don’t want to let him use my car when he could use it to meet up with girls.
I want more for my baby and myself.
I guess the pros are that he has found a place for himself to live, is looking for a better job, wants to spend time with our daughter, like I said he says he will do whatever it takes for as long as it takes…
I don’t know why but I feel alot of guilt…like I am putting a puppy out in the rain.

A: He WON’T Change for you or his baby or for anyone else. I suggest you move on, you are way more mature than he is and he doesn’t understand the importance of the situation. He doesn’t realize he has a CHILD to raise, he isn’t even grown up himself yet so how can he raise a child? MOVE ON, stay with your mother and fix your credit, do it for yourself because NO ONE else will do it for you. This is the best option for you to have more for yourself and baby, be self reliant. Maybe one day when he decides to grow up and take responsibility seriously he can see his child and help take care of what he helped create. Good luck

Q: i think ive hit a dead end… what should i do?
okay, here’s the thing. I live with my boyfriend, in his moms house, in Chicago. My whole family lives in Kentucky, and i miss it there. I love my boyfriend, but he doesn’t wanna leave here. we’ve been together for almost 2 years, and are wanting to get married, but right now, he has a job, and has to use my car to go, which means i cant have a job, and i hate that. Also, we both talked about it, and we both love kentucky… but he doesn’t want to move and lose his job. (hes a water blaster and makes alot of money) But i want to move home. I want to stay with him, and wait for him to get serious, but i cant stand living in his parents house anymore. On top of it all, his mom doesn’t really like me that much, and she WILL not allow him to move out of the state. Hes 22 and I’m 19… and im honestly looking for an outsiders opinion. Do i leave, go home without him, get over my broken heart, and move on…. Or do i wait for Him to finally make his move, get us outta his moms house, and try to work things out? And after all that, How do i make his mom like me?

A: You’re both pretty young still. Give it a bit of time and don’t rush into marriage. Once his mom realizes you are in it for the long haul, she will become more accepting of you.

Being in close quarters with her on a daily basis does not help matters either. You need a job to get you out of the house. (There is public transit in Chicago or you can carpool with your boyfriend, so not having use of the car does not preclude you from getting a job.) This will help you reach your goal of moving out on your own sooner, which in turn will give you and his mother your own space.

Q: Is it possible to afford $600 rent and still go to school full time?
I’m 19.
Living at home/commuting isn’t an option. Parents are both alcoholics/dad’s homophobic…and I just hate the boring town I live in.
I want to move into a tiny studio apt. in Chicago. It’s actually $525 but I’m estimating $600 with utilities.
Since public transportation is so good, I won’t be using a car.
Just wondering does this sound crazy? Or would it still be possible to pay for food, laundry, hygenetics, etc., and still have a little spending money leftover? I’m not sure if I should just take a semester off school to work more or just try to rough it out.

Also I tried looking for roommates but no luck…and I don’t want a random roommate from Craigslist, cuz that’s just a little too weird for me.
I’ll have about $5000 in savings by the time I move.
i would have a job whether i’m in school or not…i don’t want to spend the $5000 it’s mostly just to fall back on.

A: i dont know wat tosay.
i feel sorry for u.

Q: Whats should i get for my first car im thinking Mitubishi Lancer or Ford Focus?
I live in chicago and in winter it snows alot but i dont think either of those cars have 4wd but i guess i can live without that if i drive safe. Also i heard the lancer is bad in snowy conditions and the salt messes with the paint and it gets stuck alot is that true and if so how is the focus in snowy weather or what car would be better for me . Also my car will be used to go to school and downtown 3 days a week after school so mpg is a little important i guess and i dont want a ugly car thats why i like the lancer because it looks nice and focus just looks ok and the focus is weak in terms of power but i understand its safe and has Antilock brakes and electronic stability control and safety is important too since im a new driver and inexperienced. Thanks and if theres a better car for me than these two than please recommend it.
also what do you guys think or the acura tl

A: You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here – carquotes.sinfree.net

Q: Need help finding toy from childhood?
I am desperate. Upon doing some research, I have come up with nothing thus far. As ackward as it may sound, I am looking for a diecast garbage truck toy car that I used to have when I was about 5 years old. I recall this as being my most favorite toy, and I would love to have another one just like to to put up on the wall for memories. The toy is a replica of a Chicago city garbage truck. The truck was brown with some white paint, and it had a bubble shaped back end. It is 6 wheeled, and has a flat front. The toy had a plastic piece on its side, so when that you can move it back and fourth to simulate the movement of the crusher in the truck. To my recollection, my mother purchased this toy for me in 1994 (+ or – 1 year). If I recall correctly, the packaging of the toy had a neon highway theme to it.

I am really desperate, and I really appreciate anyone will to help me out in finding this piece of childhood which I have lost in time.

Thank you very much for your time.

A: Blah, Blah, Blah, What?

Q: A question about expired tags.?
Hello. Before I even begin to ask my question, please understand that I am in no way denying that this is entirely my fault.

Long story short, I have received a ticket for driving with expired tags in the state of Illinois. I honestly had no idea that they had expired, but of course it is still my fault. I have no problem with the fact that I received a ticket or with the police officer who served it. The police officer was very professional and polite.

My question is the rules on paying it. I thought that the police officer had said that the ticket was $120. Then, I read the ticket and it was actually for $1200. To be honest, I had the $120 in savings, but there is no way I can get $1200. I am a full-time student and I volunteer at a family friend’s shop. I did have a job over a year ago, but I quit due to a medical condition and school.

Due to the medical condition and the fact that I am still recovering from Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, I have had to drop school this semester, but will be switching to a shorter program and going back to school in Spring 2011. It is mainly an online program through a local community college with a few classes in class.

In short, I truly have no money and can only pay a ticket that high if I use the student loans that I am getting next semester. I did try to get seasonal work long before I even got the ticket too. I applied at around 30 places and was not able to get a job. Probably, it was because I had to put my medical condition on the application. I am only 22 and my father and step-mother are kind enough to pay for my cell phone, car insurance, and allow me to live with them, but they can not pay for such a ticket. They also shouldn’t have to.

My question is, given my situation, could I work off the debt by some other means. Could I complete some type of community service perhaps? My DMV is not open until Tuesday, so I can’t ask them yet.

Thank you for any answers you can give me.

A: I think the cop wrote the wrong amount on the ticket. The fine for expired tags in IL is $90, plus a county court “administrative fee” of about $30 – $50, so the $120 he told you seems to be the right number, not $1200.

Q: 16yr old in need of job.?
ok so I need to start makeing some money so i can get the things i want/need. problem is i have no car because the high school is retarded and wont let me take drivers ed because i have anxiety. so basically i need a job close to the area where i live so my dad takes me places which would mean i need a job that i can work friday-sunday, friday itd have to be a bit after 5 considering my dad doesnt get off work till 4 and gets home at 4:30 or 4:40. if possibly the job is babysitting or house keeping (like cleaning up and taking care of someones home) or something like that. even modeling. so yes basically im seeing if anyone on here needs anyone for what i had mentioned above or things similar to them. if so you have to live in illinois im not going to write a whole section describing me on here which is why i have a myspace page which would be easier for people to contact me on because im online on myspace everyday and i always respond to people and it tells a little about me so heres the link to that http://www.myspace.com/devil_voodoo_baby add me and if theres something you need to know about me that i didnt answer on there just shot me an email on there or comment if you added me and i accepted and i will get back to you. I do know that some people’s first impressions of me probably wont be good from what my profile says about me but i assure you that despite what it says i am a very nice person and am a people person and i dont judge anyone. i am very shy at first. so please get back to me about this asap. id appreciate it soo much i could really use the cash. Im also willing to start out at small pay outs at first to.

Q: How often do you stand your ground defending a statement you know isn’t true?
Here are some things I tell people that I will not relent on, even in the face of irrefutable evidence.

Iowa does not exist. It goes straight from Illinois to Nebraska, and pictures of Iowa are actually staged in a county in Kansas. People who claim to be from there might be CIA operatives, so watch out.

Taco Bell uses werewolf meat. Ever see the big steel door around back, near the menu board in the drive thru? It would be very bad if the werewolves escaped.

Rob Zombie is 5′2″. Remember him having dreads down to his knees? On me, that would barely scrape my butt crack.

Sock gnomes are vermin, and their tightly knit organization is responsible for such misdeeds as missing socks, moved car keys, disappearing guitar picks, and the like.

Keanu Reeves is a robot. There is a real Keanu, but he only makes cameo appearances in his movies to say, things like, “Whoa,” and, “Yah.” He’s not the only one who’s a robot, there are many. Some of these celebrity robots do not actually have a human counterpart, such as Celine Dion. Surprisingly, William Shatner is not one, and neither is Keith Richards.
Ah, the right to be stupid! Maybe that’s part of it. David, I’m not a religious person, by any means, but you’d be happy to know I considered posting this question in the Religion & Spirituality section.

A: You are speaking about those that do not believe in God
and live in defense of that concept, even though you can see
that He does exist.

Q: Can they actually do this?
Okay, I go to DeVry University in Illinois, and earlier this year they implemented a new “attendance policy”, which only allows you to miss one class a semester, or you will be involuntarily withdrawn. I don’t think that this is (ahem) legal, considering that I pay for the classes myself. Best Buy cannot dictate how I use an iPod after I purchased it. Even so, as a college student, I am a legal adult, thus there is no such thing as truancy. I just wanted to know if DeVry has the right to enforce any type of mandatory attendance policy such as this, considering the student pays the salaries of the board members. (No enrollment, no money!) I mean, if I had a car accident one week, and then a month later had a family emergency/medical emergency, I’m not going to attend class am I? Of course not!!!!! I always pay my tuition, get decent grades, and keep up with my course work nicely. I just think that we should be treated like college students and adults, and not high school students. I feel that DeVry has overstepped their bounds quite a bit, and I just wanted to know if they are allowed to actually do this. If anyone has any advice/input please let me know. Thanks a lot.

(By the way, I am not a stupid kid with an overinflated ego, it’s just I wanted the opinion of someone on the outside looking in)

A: I don’t think they can. It’s not high school…..So, idk ask someone who might be able to give you advice from a legal standpoint. But, I don’t think they can do that. High Schools are even more lenient than that.

Q: Answer Please How should i get to South Carolina?
Well my fiance is at Basic Training. Im in college right now, so i dont have a great amount of money to use. But She graduates in a month and 10 days and i promised i would be there for her. I cant take a plane over there since it is way too much. The train is a second option but that will take about a day to get there. and this graduation is on a Thursday. She is in Fort Jackson, SC and im the way here in Illinois. Please, if you have any suggestions on how i can see her. Also, driving could be an option. I got about 118,000 mi. on my car and i dont know if SC would be too mountainous. Plz comment.

A: I say go with the car. Give your car a full tuneup. And it needs a change of oil & filter, tire pressure check (check spare too), examine all engine hoses, seals, and belts by a pro…and replace if weak, leaky, or frayed. Stick with the Interstate highways on the trip. Even though the Interstates aren’t exactly flat in the high hills of the Great Smoky Mountains, they are not vertical and winding like the local roads.

Contact AAA Illinois and sign up for membership now. Cost you around $70 a year. If you have any car trouble anywhere on the trip, call AAA on your cell. They are quick to respond. If they can’t fix the problem right there on the spot, they’ll tow you to the nearest repair facility. No charge. In addition, you can get discounts at some motels along the way with your AAA card. Membership with AAA easily pays for itself every year.

http://www.aaa.com/scripts/WebObjects.dll/ZipCode.woa/wa/route?rclub=065&stop=yes&rurl=http://www.ouraaa.com/aaainfo/offices/illinois/

But I have this feeling that your old car knows what it needs to do…get you safely to your fiance and then get you safely back home. It’ll come through for you. And when it gets you get back home with no trouble, you’ll look at your old car and say, “Thanks old buddy.” I did it countless times in the past.

Q: Unwed Father’s rights?
Here is the situation. My Ex and I both live in Illinois and have a 5 1/2 month old daughter. He is on the birth certificate. Since she has been born he has gone down hill started using drugs again after being sober and starting drinking again. He can’t hold a job, lives on someones couch. His car is really unsafe and he is a real mess. He keeps threatening me that he is going to take me to court. I am scared that he might get visitation rights with the help of one of those father’s rights organizations. I am willing to let him see her. But I don’t want him taking her anywhere. Does anyone have any experiences with any alcoholic/ drug addict father of their child?

A: First of all if you haven’t already done so, go to your local courthouse and file for temporary custody of the child. I realize you have the child in your custody and everything, but until you get temp. custody approved by a court, that father has every bit of right to the child as you do.

Secondly if he is threatening to take you to court, beat him to the punch and do it yourself. If you can prove any of the drug/alcohol abuse, it shouldn’t be hard to be awarded sole custody. The court will also order him to pay child support, and that will force him to get a job and clean up his act or they will boot his butt off to jail. Insist you would allow visitation, but only supervised visitation because of his addiciton problems. The court should completely see it your way, and help you out arranging everything.

Best of luck

Q: Unwed fathers rights?

A: Honestly, I doubt he’ll bother to follow through on the threats. Custody and visitation disputes take a fair amount of energy, discipline, and dedication, which evidently he possesses none of. If he does manage to shift himself to chase you down in court and win visitation, he won’t bother with it more than a couple of times.

No fathers’ rights group is going to represent him (I assume you mean pro bono). They take on cases where the completely and obviously worthy dad hasn’t gotten a fair shake.

I would recommend you get in touch with a family lawyer or a legal clinic if money is tight. I imagine he could get himself some kind of visitation but if you can prove he’s perhaps not the most ideal person to be responsible for a baby you could attach certain conditions to the visits like length and venue.

Whatcha think?

A: 2 things about your draft i dont like. 1 no heyward-bay. he is a ick talent and i dont think he is gonna fall into the second round once he blows scouts away at the combine. and 2 i dont think malcom jenkins will fall that far he is a solid top 10 pick. i am a baltimore ravens fan and i think they will get heyward-bay at any cost. he is a home town kid and with his size and speed the ravens would love to have a guy like that. percy harvin i think will fall to the 2nd round.

Q: Public transportation cities besides NYC, Boston, DC, Philly, Chicago?
I am interested in knowing…

what are the cities (besides those listed above) that you can live in without relying on a car but can exclusively use public transportation?

A: Pittsburgh. PA has EXCELLENT public transportation that’s why college students love it here so much it’s just really easy to get around without a car.

Q: I want to move from San Francisco to Chicago IL – A 1 BR apt stuff and a ship a car..how much would it cost?
Please let me know what would the cheapest deal or method I should use ’cause I am out of work right now – Thanks.

A: Try http://www.rent.com/ & other apartment finders.

Q: I’m visiting Chicago for 2 days…would it be best to rent a car or hire taxi cabs….?
I’m worried that taxi’s are going to be pretty expensive…needing to use it EVERY time we (me & my boyfriend) want to go somewhere.

But then again….my boyfriend says you HAVE to be 25 to rent a car and we are 21 & 22.

A: You can rent from Budget or Avis. They allow under 25 drivers.

The CTA or ‘L’ subway trains will take you to most tourist places. You can get I think 2 day pass.

Another options is ZipCars for hourly rentals.

The last option is plain old walking. During the summer, it’s great to walk around. You can stay near downtown and still walk to Michigan (shopping), Rush/Division (nightlife), Downtown(sites and history), Navy Pier, and Millienium Park.

Don’t forget, the free trolley services are available from all the train (Amtrak/Metra) stations, major sites, and misc. streets throughout the city. Just hope on and hope off.

Q: BMW 335i used 07′ or 08′ not sure…or a brand new 2010 2LT Chevy Camaro?
I live in chicago and this is going to be my year round car…i know it snows a lot up here but i really love the look of the camaro…but then the bmw is more reliable and will be much better for the snow since it isnt rearwheel drive…so any advice?

A: The BMW is rear wheel drive. But I would still go for the Beemer.

Q: What kind of car oil to use?
I drive a 90′ bmw 325i. I live in chicago and it’s going to be spring time. What kind of oil should I put in my car?

A: BMW recommends a multigrade SAE 40 from -4 to 86 deg. F ambient. Use Kendall Full Synthetic SAE 5W-40. It is approved as a “BMW Long Life Oil”. A model 325 holds 7 quarts but check with your manual. Good luck.

Q: Any advice on alternative moving options?
I’m moving from Chicago to Arizona and basicly ridding myself of most my possesions. However, i still want to move more than a car load. I got some boxes and a couple pieces of small furniture.
I know of these Pods, but do they offer small versions? I’ve heard of shared moving trucks that charge per space used, but is that just a myth? Any wisdom to share?

A: <>Yes, the PODS come in various sizes. Yes, you can find reduced rate truck shipping, but it will take some calling around to find one. If you are driving, why not just rent a small U-Haul trailer? They are very reasonable.

Q: How can I quiet my engine down? I have 87 chevy caprice 5.0 v8 and the engine is making this chattering noise?
my car has 83,000 miles on it…someone told me to use some thicker oil ? I use 10w30 its winter time out in chicago but it still chatters I dunno what to do to get my engine to quiet down…im think its a lifter making that noise maybe? how much u think it will cost to replace them or adjust them? help me out

A: the noise could be the lifters or timing chain.

Q: What are the months my dog needs flea and tick protection?
She weighs 10lbs and is very much an indoor dog. Uses pads indoors and never goes on the grass outside. I am in a motorized scooter and she rides with me on it if we go out. Goes very seldom in car with someone to vet or other.

Also, what months for heart worm protection. We are in Naperville, Il a suburb 30 miles west of chicago Il

A: Heartworm is usually recommended year round by vets but another rule of thumb would be getting a yearly heartworm test and start dosing when the mosquitos come out. The stuff is actually kills the bad guys from the month before so make sure to give them heartworm at least a month after the last mosquito is gone.

For fleas I highly recommend dawn dish soap (the original)! Cheap, easy, SAFE and effective. You can watch the little buggers die. I only use Frontline PLUS (safe for pregnant dogs according to the packaging) when I absolutely have to which isn’t often if I’m regularly using Dawn.

Q: Can someone help me out with interest rates?
At bankrate.com Using their loan calculations, how much would your monthly payment be for a $24K car with a $3K down payment in Chicago? Loan life is 48 months. Would you take the $2K cashback bonus or the 0 percent loan financing?

A: Hi,
It depends what rate you’ll get with the $2000.00 cash vs 0%. Usually with cash back they up the APR, and with 0% they are less prone to lower the price of the car. At least with 0% you’re not paying extra monthly money & it often is a wash.

Q: How do u turn in an establishment that constantly has Police parking in the 1 & only Disabled Parking Spot?
The bar on the first floor has been breaking law after law for the entior time they have been open (About 2 years now) and I only now realize exactly HOW MANY LAWS they break on a weekly (Sometimes Daily) basis… They are constanly braging about how one of the owners has a LOT of cop friends that protect them and they are always ‘encouraging’ cops to eat here so they can get on their knees and blow them to continue their protection and it is only NOW I realize that the fact that I have had to call the cops and file a noise complaint at LEAST once a week, usually upwards of 5 times a NIGHT on weekends with the overly intoxicated patrons out in the parking lot until 2:00am to 3:00am so I am DONE calling down there and asking them to turn the music down and control their customers!

I am going to start collecting video of their illegal outdoor events… I’m going to start taking pictures of how they block off the whole parking lot and treat it as one big patio… (Which is illegal if their Outdoor Patio/Beer Garden License is only for the “Normal” patio that they use) I’m going to take video of the over served drunks stumbling to their cars or, even worse, SHOWING UP DRUNK and stumbling INSIDE then stumbling even more BACK to their car… And I’m going to turn in each and every person without a disabled parking placard…

I AM DONE PLAYING NICE.

And just do demonstrate how tired of all this I am, I have done the research and discovered that the specific ordinances they have broken EVERY DAY are:
11-4-2800 Music and amplified sound.
(a) No person on the public way shall employ any device or instrument that creates or amplifies sound, including but not limited to any loudspeaker, bullhorn, amplifier, public address system, musical instrument, radio or device that plays recorded music, to generate any sound, for the purpose of communication or entertainment, that is louder than average conversational level at a distance of 100 feet or more, measured vertically or horizontally, from the source.

(b) Between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m., no person on any private open space shall employ any device or instrument that creates or amplifies sound, including but not limited to any loudspeaker, bullhorn, amplifier, public address system, musical instrument, radio or device that plays recorded music, to generate any sound, for the purpose of communication or entertainment, that is louder than average conversational level at a distance of 100 feet or more from the property line of the property from which the noise is being generated.

11-4-2805 Regulated entertainment businesses.
(a) No establishment holding a liquor license pursuant to Chapter 4-60 of this Code, or a public place of amusement license pursuant to Article III of Chapter 4-156 of this Code, shall operate or permit operation of any equipment or device that electronically amplifies sound so as to generate sound having a sound pressure level greater than 55 dB(A) when measured from within any dwelling unit; provided that, if the ambient noise level is greater than 55 dB(A), then the applicable limitation is 10 dB(A) above the ambient noise level.
(b) In addition to the limitations contained in subsection (a) of this section, the limitations contained in section 11-4-2800 of this Code apply to any entity subject to this section

FAQ from the City of Chicago Department of Environment Website ( http://www.cityofchicago.org )
What are the requirements of having an outdoor patio or beer garden? Can I serve liquor at my sidewalk cafe?
An Outdoor Patio License allows the service of liquor to the public outdoors on private property. Outdoor Patios must be enclosed and be directly adjacent to the existing licensed business. No live or recorded music should be played in an Outdoor Patio and it must be closed (for both food and liquor service) by 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

Outdoor Events – An outdoor Special Event Liquor License is required anytime liquor is to be served or sold outdoors to the public at a previously unlicensed location or at a private event in the which the attendants are charged a fee for the event. Although licensed caterers may provide liquor service for these events, the service of liquor by a licensed caterer DOES NOT exempt the event holder from obtaining a special event liquor license.
A: Your details and documentation are excellent. Please consider any repercussions, once you set the wheels in motion. The District Attorney for the City and County will consider your complaint and enforcement of violations, but in doing so you are also going to subject yourself to some ridicule. I am sorry but the reality of the situation is they may tell you that they are busy catching hardened criminals.
You may also file a complain with the State license board, they are more likely to be interested in action TAF (Tobacco,Alcohol, Firearms) gets quicker response. Sincere best wishes in your quest. and thank you.

Q: How do I retrieve a lost lien release notice when the finance company is out of business?
7 years ago I paid off my car loan and was mailed a lien release notice. I now want to sell that used car but I can not find my lien release.
I found out the company who financed my car is out of business. The company was Premier Finance out of Chicago.

After extensive research I was able to find a phone number and left a very detailed message, they said it would take 30-45 days and it has been almost 2 months and I still have not received a new lien release notice.

Any advise or answers would be greatly appreciated!

A: Before a lien release becomes relevant, you would first need the vehicle title. If you have the title and the finance company is no longer in business, any potential lien claim should have expired with the lender; and if you have physical possession of your title, it should be all you require.

Otherwise, you will have to contact your state’s relevant agency and request a duplicate/replacement title. If, for some reason, a record of lien exists against the vehicle by the now-defunct lender, you may need to swear an affidavit that no further lien exists if, after the vehicle agency does whatever due diligence they perform has yielded no obstacles. You may be required to provide banking and payment records to show that payments were indeed made. That’s up to your state.

It’s possible that Premier Finance sold its business to another entity. In that case, the Illinois Secretary of State or Department of Professional Regulation may be able to guide you to whatever agency assumed their business and you can then start your hunt all over. In the meantime, I’d simply apply for a replacement title and let the outcome guide me rather than embarking upon an adventure that may begin with another 60 days of unreturned calls.

Best of luck. I hope this helps.

Q: Would it be fair to say that Sen. Obama has assumed a bunker-mentality ?
According to the Washington Post:

Sept. 15, 2008

CHICAGO — Obama family sightings used to be common in Hyde Park, and many residents walked by the presidential candidate’s home on a regular basis without thinking much of it.

No longer.

Since late August, concrete and steel barricades have cordoned off Barack Obama’s block — and a sizable stretch of the perpendicular streets on either side of it — in this Chicago neighborhood. Viewed on an unremarkable Monday afternoon, 51st Street just south of his home was guarded by five Chicago police squad cars and at least six uniformed officers, plus plainclothes guards and Secret Service personnel. Concrete traffic barriers and steel crowd control fences closed off the sidewalk in front of Obama’s house; across the street, passersby were partitioned off by a line of steel fences and told by guards to keep moving.

“I think they’re going too far,” said high school student Jerman Freeman, 14

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/09/15/for_obamas_its_life_behind_bar.html

When will Sen. Obama emerge from his bunker?

A: He is directing his imaginary armies from there. Reminiscent of April 1944 and another failed dictator.

Q: How can I quiet my engine down? I have 87 chevy caprice 5.0 v8 and the engine is making this chattering noise?
my car has 83,000 miles on it…someone told me to use some thicker oil ? I use 10w30 its winter time out in chicago but it still chatters I dunno what to do to get my engine to quiet down…im think its a lifter making that noise maybe? how much u think it will cost to replace them or adjust them? help me out

A: If its in the valve train you may not need to replace anything. You may just need a valve adjustment. I would not use a thicker oil or anything to quiet it. You have a problem of some type and need to diagnose the problem then fix it. Not cover it up! I would first pull off the valve covers with the engine off of course. Then wiggle each rocker and find the ones that are loose and then, follow the proper steps in setting valves on the SBC, and just go thru all of them. If you see something that looks worn or needs replacing do so. If you still hear this noise after you inspect or re-adjust your valve train, you more than likely have another issue somewhere else thats bad. Squealing from a idler pulley? Water pump? Altenator? ect ect. But if your sure its coming from the valve train which chattering is a comon description of that issue then this should fix it. Call a machine shop, get a chiltons or haynes manual to show you how to set your valves properly. Or just take it somewhere. It should not cost alot of money. It is do it yourself type of job, however I would say most shops $30.00 per hour or some type of flate rate. Dealership will be $80 per hour. Good luck.

Q: Unfair and incorrect parking ticket in Chicago. How should I deal with this?
Hello everyone. I am a little confused. I got a parking ticket in Chicago dated Sunday, October 12, 2008 for parking my rental car at a spot that said “15 Minute Standing Zone, Use Flashing Lights 7:30AM-7:30PM, MON-SAT.” I actually parked there Saturday night at around 11:30PM, and went back to my car on Sunday to find this ticket. I had doubt about that sign so I took a picture including the car, location and the sign before I walked away.

I sent a contest letter to City of Chicago including the photo and the ticket (I kept a copy) and just recently (4 months later) received a response finding me liable for the ticket. It did not give much more information other than an administrative officer found me liable.

If you are interested in seeing the photo, here is a link:

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l224/alexhchen/9f6c27cb.jpg

And in my letter I wrote:

===========================
Dear City of Chicago Official,

This parking ticket was issued on Sunday, October 12, 2008 at 4:19PM, at 3219 N Clark St. However, the sign says “15 Minute Standing Zone, Use Flashing Lights 7:30AM-7:30PM, MON-SAT.”
There is no violation.
For your reference, I have included a copy of 1) My rental car agreement 2) A photo of the location with the sign 3) The Violation Notice.

Please mail the hearing decision to:
My Address.
===========================

Should I pay for this ticket and just let it go? Will they charge the rental car company resulting in the rental car company charging me?Either way it’s unfair for them to ask for money this way. I am traveling abroad and won’t be able to make it by March 14, 35 days from the date of the decision letter, to attend the Circuit Court. Do I have a chance to fight this system?

Thank you for your thoughts in advance.
I see! So the sign actually meant 15 min anytime and use flashers during the specific time. OK. At least the enforcement is not as corrupt as I initially imagined.

I just wanted to make sure if I pay the $60 fine to Chicago, the rental car company won’t get charged and come after me to ask for another $60. It would really not make sense to double charge.
I failed to mention..ok. I should just have considered myself lucky and not posted this question. It would be easy for me to say that like you if I am not involved.

Next time when you get a ticket, consider yourself lucky. You probably never get one. Why do so many people like to be patronizing, not answer the question and just try to gain points? Especially those in law enforcement. Almost every response I read from someone in law enforcement is patronizing, and only some of them answers the question directly, like KC V. Should doctors all laugh at patients for them being stupid and got sick?

A: Pay, do not let it go. It is civil and the city will collect even if they have to turn it over to a credit agency and screw up your credit.
The rental will not pay, you are responsible. They already know about you but in the future know that the rental companies now turn over the name of the renter if the city wants it for collection (this was a court ordered agreement from years back).
Also for next time go and see the hearing officer in person with the photos etc. These hearing people are just per diem lawyers working for the city. You have more chance in person.
They will not explain but I do suggest that you go down to the start of the street, Barry?, and look for any other no parking sign that overrules the 15 minute sign. Many areas have specific times you cannot park. The 15 minute sign only refers to when there are no other restrictions. they only have to put up and maintain one sign at the beginning of the block, merchants often tear down signs in front or near their businesses The hearing officer has a computerized list of all no parking zones, just as they have a copy of the ticket if a cop wrote it out or the electronic copy if done by department of revenue.

A: There is only on Wal-mart inside the city limits of Chicago.

4650 West North Ave
Chicago (W), IL 60639
(773) 252-7465

There are a few Targets in town…

Good luck…

Q: Where can I find the cost of tolls when you use EZ-Pass in NY, NJ, and in New England?
I’m heading to the East Coast next month and will be renting a car….am planning to take my I-Pass with me (Illinois version of the EZ-Pass) and was wondering if I could find a table/chart of the EZ-Pass tolls?

Thanks!
Thanks for your responses so far…to the one who mentioned about registering w/EZ Pass I don’t think thats necessary…yes I will have to register my rental but I will do that through the I-Pass site since its their transponder I am using…I know this for a fact…when Indiana introduced EZoom I didn’t have to register through their site…..

A: Please remember that I-PASS is NOT ACCEPTED at airports and other non-roadway facilities that accept E-ZPass.

Q: I am moving out of state, should i hire movers or use a rental truck?
My husband and I are moving from southern California to southern Illinois in a few months when my husband gets out of the marines. We have our bedroom furniture, bathroom attire, personal items like close, and kitchen stuff. We both have our own vehicles( v8 catilac car and a v6 silverado truck ) but neither one should pull a trailer that far of a distance. Should I hire a moving company an if I do, any suggestions. If I hire someone to do the job for us I would prefer to have them take the vehicles as well and just fly to our home in Illinois if possible. Please help me make a desisoin I have never done nothing like this before. thank you!

A: I have found that when it is all said and done, the cost difference isn’t that much and with a mover, your stuff is insured and protected better. Hire a mover. But make it a national carrier, and DO NOT trust an internet quote or a phone quote. Make the representative come over and give you your price IN WRITING. Other wise, an unsavory mover may hold your belongings “hostage” for more money. With a written guarantee this won’t happen.

One other thing. Make sure a semi truck can get in both ends of your move, if it can’t, it will cost you extra for them to load and unload a smaller truck at either end.

Q: When a cop pulls you over can he see if you own a gun using his computer?
I live in Illinois, we have to have a foid card to own a gun. I was wondering if when a cop pulls you over if he can see that you hold a foid card and own a gun?

Also, if they can see that you own a gun do normal traffic stops give you problems and cause you to have to get out of the car, car searched, etc?

Basically I wnat to buy a gun before Obama bans them but I dont want to get one if I’m going to get hassled by the cops for no reason.

A: No record is available on mobile data terminals (police car computers) on your gun ownership or even on FOID. A request can be made for FOID, to see if you have a valid card. No record is attached to the card about your weapons. If you have registered a gun in Chicago or another town that is available but again it does not automatically come up and takes longer than most cops would hang around for a ticket.
Unless your gun is unloaded and not accessible, locked in the trunk for example, you cannot carry it in your car in Illinois. Illinois does not have concealed or open carry for civilians of any kind.
As to searches. having an FOID is not cause for a search. You need the card to purchase ammunition or a gun but having a card does not mean you have a gun.
Wisconsin Troopers used to use the police parking lot decal on a Illinois police officer’s car or police ID as probable cause to search, back when Illinois cops could not carry in Wisconsin. Unless there was a tow involved those cases were thrown out.

Q: what just happened with this relationship?
to make this long story shorter ill start in the middle. i took my girlfriend down to oklahoma from illinois with me. she made a friend and we ended up living down there for about a month in a tiny camper by the lake cause my cuz is useless. we got into a fight and she told me that she was leaving me and starts walking down the road. my cuz picks her up and they are gone for about 5 hours. they come back and julie (my x) wants nothing to do with me from 12 pm to 12 am she hates me so we are at my cuz wifes house and everyone there goes to bed and at about 12 am im sitting in the car listening to music and she comes out and asks if we can talk so i say sure so we talk for about 3 hours and go inside. she told me to lay next to her so just like any other night she uses my arm as a pillow and we fall asleep. o ya her mom was on her way from illinois to oklahoma to get her. so we wake up at 6am and she says she still loves me and everything and she just wants to b on a break for a wile. so i say ok and we ended up having sex some how. that was actually about 3 weeks ago. what the hell just happened. no call no myspace or nothing. what the hell. its a mind fu**. she still loves me but she hates me at the same time?

A: That my friend, is her being on a break for a while. Or you getting cheated on i don’t really kno but for your sake i hope its not the latter.

Q: I need help on a story line please?
“Tessie! Get your butt in this car right now!” I shreiked. It was pouring and she just couldn’t help looking at that little Coach purse.
“Thanks, Ash, love you too. I am SO getting that purse next time, don’t you try to stop me!” Tess, my best friend in the whole world, fit perfectly with me. She was a perfect 5’6, same as me, but she had long blonde hair that curled at the tips, and jade green eyes. Unlike her, I had highlighted brown hair that was sexily layered, and carribean blue eyes. But both of us, undeniably so, were the most popular and beautiful girls in school, and the most wealthy.
“Tess, can we head down to your house? I got a date with Matt, and I need to primp, and you know I adore your straightener!”
“Sure, I need to get ready for a date too. We can make it a primp party!” She laughed.
“Who? I never can keep up with you and all those guys!” I had a steady boyfriend, Matt Robinson, whereas Tess was always on one boy to the next, she could never decide. She probably had at least six guys that she was currently stringing along.
“Baseball hottie, Andrew Hawking!” She sqeauled. “We’re going to see the Knowing, another dumb horror movie,” She sighed.
“At least it’s a good reason for some major make-out. Horror scene, sqeaul, hop in his lap, and get some action. Matt and I are going to have a home movie showing, in his room. I’ll be getting some action myself,” I was actually very happy, lately my powers have been weakening, probably of over-use (stupid zits) and I could use some nice one-on-one with Matt to cheer me up. But I could never tell Tess this, she had no idea about my powers. She was a natural beauty, blessed by God, whereas I, was not. If I was being truthful wih myself , I would admit that I was really a 5’4, clumsy girl with no status in her social life at all. Before she lived in Los Angeles, she lived in Chicago, Illinois. She had her true identity and she was in the lowest social category possible, with only one friend, a math club geek. She came to Los Angeles, shortly after discovering her powers, and she decided to use them to change her appearance, a project that was so far working well.
__________________________________________________________
So, how do you like it? should i change anything? this is the beggining and the main part of the rest is that she loses her powers and is forced to be a regular girl and live her life how she really is, and she discovers that even if shes ot beautiful and popular, life isnt all that bad. please, give me your opinion! thx
there is more plot, there will be love, friends, fights, betrayal, all that good stuff. but thats the main plot line. hope that helps understanding too

A: dont worry, i love it. dont listen to other jerks who are proboly sucky writers who want to harp on a good story.

i’ll be here for you nat. next time, send it to me, and ask me. i’ll be honest. like i am now =)

btw thanks for usin my name!!

Q: If the witness (officer) can’t make my court date, should I change my court date for my speeding ticket?
One of the witnesses (obviously the state trooper) can’t make my court date for a speeding ticket that I am protesting. What happens if I say I don’t want to reschedule the date? Will they throw it out? Will they just use the radar reading as evidence with an absentee witness? Would a defense of “it wasn’t my car that got radar gunned” work in this situation? Could I offer to plead to a lesser charge over the phone? What is the best procedure I can use for getting out of my 80 in a 65? Is this an opportunity for me? I live in Illinois and the State Trooper can’t make my court date. Solid answers only please instead of wild speculation. Thanks!

A: If you know he cannot make it – DO NOT CHANGE IT!

If the officer (the only witness against you) cannot come to court, there is no evidence and the ticket must be dismissed.

Edit: “Rock Firestorm” is incorrect. While some states’ laws may allow the Court to reschedule, in at least 2 states the officer’s failure to appear is an absolute dismissal on almost every type of citation. In my County and State, I have seen an estimated average of 20% of cases dismissed on this ground, and in one Court, I saw 30 of 40 defendants have their citation dismissed (not my client’s, but oh well). In a neighboring County, however, officers are motivated by pay cuts to make their appearances – thus no-shows are far more rare. I don’t know your state specifically, but I still suggest NOT consenting to a rescheduling of your trial date.

Q: Horse boarding facilities?
I live in northern Illinois (Geneva to be exact) and I’ve been trying hard with no success to find an affordable horse boarding facility for me. I do not own a horse, but I figure I should find a place to board it before I do own one (haha). I’m eighteen years old, just about to graduate high school, and I’ve been waiting for this particular summer to get a horse. I make roughly $600 a month, and I have a car insurance to pay for as well which is about $650 every six months. Now, I do have money saved up that I will pay for my horse with including all of the necessities. It is a large sum of money that has been stashed away in a savings account since I was about three years old, figure the amount if you want. I do not want to rely on this money to pay my boarding costs, just to pay for my horse and the necessities. I will use it if I really need to (help pay for vet bills).
Now, considering the amount I make monthly and figuring in my car insurance, what is the highest monthly board I should allow myself?
I really need help with this.
Also, if anybody pasture boards where they provide their own grain and all of that, how does that compare to full board?
Thanks a lot.

A: I dont know the prices around there, but maybe around 300 at the most per month.

Q: do you think a HSR (high speed rail) would work in the U.S.?
i was recently reading an article about how they are going to try and put a few of these in the U.S.

i believe the routes they plan on selling were these.

Los Angeles to Las Vegas (up to San Francisco too would be a good loop)
Tampa to Orlando to Miami
Baltimore to Washington D.C. maybe into Pennsylvania
a loop in Texas
a Chicago/Illinois loop maybe into Missouri/St. Louis
Chattanooga to Atlanta

keeping in mind they will probably try linking these with other cities to make it more efficient.

im not real sure about the laws and how fast they will let these things go, but lets say 130-150 mph. they say these trains best suited for trips about 2-3 hours or 100-400 miles. saying they can beat both plane and car in this range.

obviously faster than a car and not nearly as much hassle as an airport. plus trains usually put you in the city where as planes usually put you on the outskirts.

what are your opinions? would you use it? good alternative to driving or flying? good/bad for economy? mixed with pre existing public transportation easy way to travel?

just curious about what other people think. i can see it working or failing

A: They’d work, especially if the subsidy given air travel got brought into line with what is given rail.

Q: My best friend is missing but we live in different states, can i file a report still?
I just found out yesterday night that one of my best friends has been missing since thursday afternoon. he had just moved 2 weeks ago to madison wisconsin with his girlfriend, they didnt know anyone at all who live there. on thursday he told his girlfriend he was gona take a walk to the mall and never came back. he did not take a car and had little to no money with him, they are broke. his best friend from another town has no clue either. his g/f never filed a missing persons report and turned off his cell because someone was using it…which i thought was a dumb move. I live an hour away from madison in Illinois, can i still file a missing persons report? would i have to drive up there? and i dont know where the police station is or anything….any advice? i am getting extremely worried, he would have called me for sure, we have been best friends for 4 years now.
also, we had made plans that i was going to come up and visit them last night so i know he would have told me to not come up there if he was gona skip town or something

A: I spent a couple years in a missing persons unit so I have a little bit of experience on this. Based on some of the particulars you stated, i.e. Walking to the mall, never came back, left his car, someone was using his cell phone, didn’t cancel prior arrangements etc etc, this is a serious case that would be taken seriously by the police. The general rule is that the jurisdiction lies with the last place he/she was known to be so it would prudent to call Madison.

My experience also gives me a red flag on the girlfriend not calling this in herself, yet took the time to cancel the phone… which I agree, is a bad move. It could be nothing, it could be something..

I would ask about any drug history.. its not uncommon for a drug user to disappear, trade personal items for drugs etc etc. I would also ask about any suicidal tendancies.. check recent computer history for clues.

In any event, a report needs to be made through Madison so he gets put into NCIC in the event he has police contact, it would come up.

Edit- And if possible please up date your question with the results of this situation, I’m curious.

Q: Filing a Small Claims lawsuit – but who is/are the defendant(s)?
My son was involved in an auto accident in August. The other driver was driving a company vehicle. The small business he works for is in Illinois and the collision took place in Missouri, where we live. According to my son and an unbiased witness, the other driver was clearly at fault. They did not call the police and after they exchanged insurance information the guy gave my son his business card and said to get an estimate and give him a call. It sounded to me like the guy knew he screwed up and there wouldn’t be a problem but I should have known better. I was never able to reach him at work so I called the broker their company uses and finally got in touch with someone from their insurance company (which I think is based in Ohio) and filed a claim. Apparently the other driver changed his mind by the time he gave a statement to his insurance company and now his insurance company is refusing to pay the $2400 to fix our car. They decided that they don’t think their client was at fault. When I last spoke to the other guy’s insurance company I told them that I was going to file a lawsuit and they told me to go ahead and do that. We carry only liability so my insurance company won’t pay anything – but they did agree to record a statement from the unbiased witness for me and are in the process of transcribing and mailing that to me.
FINALLY, MY QUESTIONS ! I have the forms from the small claims court but I don’t know who to name as the defendant(s). Do I name the business who owns the vehicle, the driver himself, or the insurance company ? Also, since me and my husband are named on the title of the car my son was driving who is/are the plaintiff(s) ? Can I file this petition myself by telling what he and the witness said happened or does my son have to fill it out (he is away at college now) Do I have to name my husband on the form and if I do will he have to be in court and will my son also have to come home from college to be in court ?
Thanks in advance, sorry this was so long.

A: It is usually illegal not to report an accident to the police if the damage exceeds a small amount (usually between $200 and $500). They sometimes call this a hit and run. Do you want to risk your son being charged with a hit and run?

Who is the uninterested witness? Was it a bystander or was it your son’s passenger? If it was your son’s passenger or did this witness know your son ahead of time – if so, that person is biased and this will greatly hurt his credibility. If you go to court, the uninterested witness will HAVE to be there to testify.

If you file a lawsuit, you have to file it in the county where the accident occurred. You should name the business and the driver (not the insurance company). The plaintiff would be your son (the driver). Your son will have to be there for the trial to testify. The only thing you can testify to is that you are the owner of the vehicle and that your son had permission to drive the vehicle.

WIthout a police report, this is a he said/she said case and the court is unlikely to find in your favor.

If I were the judge, I would ask myself why your son didn’t call the police. I would then thing that it is possible that your son was under the influence and did not want to risk being “caught”. If this is the case, then your son could have been legally considered the cause of the accident.

Q: Annoying upstairs neighbor… how do I tell them to shut up?
We moved down to Texas about 6 months ago from Illinois. We are currently in a downstairs apartment. The complex is only two stories, so we have one level above us. Our neighbors are extremely noisy… sometimes it’s just them living… like when they walk it sounds like a herd of elephants, and when they shower we can hear the water in the pipes. I know there isn’t anything we can do about that, but there at other things like vacuuming at 11:00pm, blaring the radio at 1:00am and last night playing some shooting game on the TV with the surround sound on. They started playing around 7:00pm and I am not kidding it woke me up at 5:30am. I am a light sleeper and have had to use ear plugs just to make it through the night. I’m sorry, but I’m paying rent just like they are… I don’t think I should have to use ear plugs because of their lack of concern for others.

On top of that it is a mom, her 17 yr old son and his 17 y/o pregnant girlfriend. He isn’t in school and they don’t have a car. So, mom’s gone for the weekend and they are literally stuck in the apt which is why they could play that game all night. Come the end of Jan there will be a screaming crying baby upstairs.

We signed a year lease, and don’t feel like we should have to pay to break it, although we are the ones having the issues with them. We also have a dog, so finding an apt that will accept him is hard… we looked at them all before we signed here. This was the nicest.

We’ve started having our dog bark everytime they make too much noise, but we can’t continue like that. We can’t have the dog bark all night because their mommy is out of town, so they can stay up all night like a** holes blasting their video games. In addition to that, parking is crowded at our end of the complex. They pay for covered parking but park in the regular spots as well. We don’t have assigned parking, but I think that if you are paying for parking that is where you should have to park. Instead, they parked where I normally park, so after grocery shopping for Thanksgiving I had to park across the street and lug my groceries.

Any advice on how to talk to obnoxious neighbors? We don’t really want to cause a feud, but we also don’t want to have to move all of our stuff because they are inconsiderate. I just can’t stand the noise and nerve they have any more.

Thank you everyone!

A: I hate that. My old apartment was the same way. Have you tried talking to your leasing office about them? Or maybe talking to the neighbors directly? I realize that could be kinda ify, but as long as you go about it in a civil manner, maybe they might change. Never know.. People surprise you sometimes. If all else fails, you could always bang your broomstick on the ceiling.

Q: How do you say this in French…?
using the correct tense (passe compose or imparfait) most likely imparfait

It was a hard move because our car broke down and it was a holiday, but I had fun

I was really happy to meet a new friend. When I first met him, he was really quiet.

She was the cutest puppy. She looked like a little bear cub. And brought joy to our family.

We wished we could have been in the competition. It was a really nice day out. The temperature was perfect.

Hockey was my favorite sport and it was so much fun.

It was a horrifying tragedy. It was a depressing tragedy.

I really miss my brother but It was fun driving to illinois. it was a fun roadtrip.

Q: Do U agree with Rep. Luis Gutierrez D-Ill The vast majority of undocumented immigrants don’t violate any laws?
Do U agree with Rep. Luis Gutierrez D-Ill The vast majority of undocumented immigrants don’t violate any laws other other than their Immigration status,” ? I must ask how would as Rep. Luis Gutierrez D-Ill The vast majority of undocumented immigrants don’t violate any laws other other than their Immigration status,”obtain work without using fake or stolen documents are these still against the law in Rep. Luis Gutierrez D-Ill mind ? Then there is the issue of driver’s license and insurance and taxes, is not having either against the law as well ? Take a look. The nondescript 737 jet taxied to the front of the runway line at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.

Aboard the flight, 53 passengers stared out windows as their rising plane banked toward Mexico and their handcuffs glinted in the morning sun.

This is U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Flight Repatriate, a booming airline ferrying illegal immigrants out of the country.

Flying worldwide from O’Hare and 22 other airports, the so-called ICE Air planes transported more than 367,000 illegal immigrants, including 11,500 from the Chicago area, out of the U.S. from October 2007 to October 2008—a 26 percent increase over the previous fiscal year and 77 percent more than in 2006. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano recently called for ways to “expedite removal” of thousands more illegal immigrants. The directive surprised advocates who have been lobbying for fewer deportations while they build momentum to reintroduce Immigration reform legislation in Congress by July.

“That was a signal to me that we need to work quicker and speak more effectively to the Obama camp,” said Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.), who is organizing Immigration rallies in 14 cities.

“The vast majority of undocumented immigrants don’t violate any law, other than their Immigration status,” Gutierrez argued.

On board Flight Repatriate during a recent trip to the border near El Paso, Texas, the passengers embodied the dashed dreams of deported immigrants everywhere.

Some fretted over U.S.-born children. Others stewed over U.S. residency applications filed years ago. On a flight where many passengers were convicted of other U.S. crimes, still more grappled with alcoholism and other demons that make them poster targets for arrest.

“I shouted to the police: ‘Then, kill me! Kill me!’ ” Moises Rivera, 35, boasted about the January night he guzzled eight shots of whiskey and fell asleep in his car at a Little Village traffic light. In jail, he sobered up to realize he was heading back to Mexico.

Near him sat Felipe Rodriguez, who was pulled over for speeding. The sunken-eyed restaurant busboy was arrested after showing an Illinois state trooper a fake driver’s license.

“I don’t smoke; I don’t drink,” said Rodriguez, 55, describing himself as a bookworm. “My whole family is in Chicago and Indiana, where we were happy.”

A: WTF..No, they are breaking our laws just by being here illegally, not to mention how much they Raise our crime rate….Everyone has a sob story. What is their problem, why don’t they just come here legally like so many others do. Why should we have to pay for them? We shouldn’t. They are in this country illegally and are not entitled to one single thing.

Q: My parents have joint-custody and i live with my mother…but, i want to move in with my dad? can i do that?
I live in Illinois. My mother is the more “stable” one with a house, new husband, and one child(my half-brother) and another one on the way(my half-sister.) I really want to move in with my dad. My mother will not let me get a job so i can save up money for college and a car. She has me babysit her kids everyday so she can go to work and now she’s going back to school…and she’s pregnant! We don’t have a lot of money to begin with and she’s using it so she can go to college, even though i’m supposed to go in less than two years! My dad is the less “stable” one i guess you can say. He doesn’t have a set job, but he does do side jobs all the time. He lives with my mom’s mom and her husband. (my grandma) (i know weird situation, but that’s what it is)They both said that they would happily let me stay there and I would have my own room. I’m 16. Would i have to take her to court? I really want to do this before the new school year starts possibly.

THANKS! 10 POINTS TO BEST ANSWER!

A: you would have to go to court for you to be able to live with your dad, so if you want it over with before school starts you should try and get a court date as soon as possible. since your 16 im pretty sure that all you have to do is tell the judge who you want to live with, and as long as he is stable enough to take care of you, then it should be fine. the problem here becomes if your mom doesn’t want you to move. then it would a custody battle that would take a long time, but if you could get your mom o.k. with it then every thing should be fine.

Q: Whats Harder, Working Construction or Working On An Oil Rig?
I used to work construction after I got out of high school since I’m not a student, and so I knew college wasnt ever gonna be for me. I did construction for a while just to make some money to buy a car, but I realized pretty quick that it wasnt something I’d be physically able to do for the rest of my life (especially here in Illinois where it snows). So I was talking to a buddy of mine, and he was saying that off shore oil rig jobs pay anywhere from $50k-$100k a year STARTING, and that you can travel all over the world doing it. My question is, how physically demanding is it? And what type of physical labor do you do while on the job? Also how long do you spend living on the off shore rigs? Like is it possible to own a house and start a family and actually see your family if your in this field? Or is this a single mans job?

A: You need to watch more TV – Dunno what channel it was, but it had a series on working Oil Rigs. Totally demanding physically and mentally.. more physically.

Forget about a family until you’ve saved enough to enter another field. Long absences don’t make for good family relationships. Especially with ‘good money’… Honey ain’t gonna stay home to wait for it.

GC

Q: why should I have a license plate on a vehicle that I dont drive?
I’m in Illinois. I am restoring an antique car. It isn’t being driven on the street and wont be for a long time, why do I need to purchase annual license plates for it? Isn’t a license plate for the use of driving a vehicle on the street? My local police are calling it an abandoned inoperable vehicle and it has to be plated or I will be fined and it will be impounded. This is unconstitutional, what I do on my own property is my business and I shouldn’t have to buy plates for a car that isn’t driven on the street or taken off my property.

A: usually if its in garage or covered your safe/get the bigod large blue tarp from Harbor Freight Tools/on line or local/go to home depot and buy a doz cinder blocks or bunch of bricks and throw tarp over it and blocks to hold the tarp down and its over

Q: Can I get pulled over for using a cellphone?
So I live in Illinois and I was wondering if I’m allowed to use a cell phone. I’m 17 (almost 18) and my phone can connect to bluetooth onto my car so it’s no-hands, just me driving and talking to the car. Is this legal? Is it legal in construction?
lastly, if it is illegal, is it possible for a cop to know if i’m talking (besides him/her seeing me talking to the car)? Like do cops have cell phone trackers or bluetooth trackers or something like that where it shows all users within a radius?
thanks!

p.s. sorry if this question sounded juvenile, it’s just curiosity

A: I don’t know the laws in your area. but in Ontario canada its illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving, (if your holding the device). It’s a new law but its a good law.

The second part to your question is just paranoyia.

Q: Major anxiety kicking in?
OK..so I have flown before… did my first flight this past summer.. ALONE.
I got through it just fine.

Now it is time to go again..see, I moved to Illinois from PA last year.
I am going home for Christmas and flying back in a few weeks is a heck of a lot cheaper (my mom is letting me use her voucher from Southwest) than renting a car and driving back.
I cant trust my car right now to drive 850 miles away…round trip even.

So…My mom wants to book my flight..but I am having horrible anxiety again over it. I know what flying is all about..and I did fine last trip..
but I am actually shaking over this again.
I feel trapped. I need to go home..I miss home.
It is awesome that I can be home in under 2 hours by plane.

I hate the fact of flying alone again..afraid of who I will sit by..etc.
Afraid of bad turbulence ..
is it worse in the winter months??

I cant stand this crippling fear.
I mean..I conquered my fear already and got on the plane in the summer..and I did it. I was so proud of myself.
Why cant I do this again???
Why do I want to cry?
Fear of the unknown again? What??
And why exactly is it that flying is so much more safe than driving?
I feel like a fool.
I just want to go home.

I just want my flight to go smooth and everything go just fine.

A: planes kill less people per year than donkeys.

there are thousands of people assigned by the FAA to make sure you land safely.

enjoy your flight and if you have a problem with your seat buddy, kindly tell the flight attendant and she will move you to an empty seat.

Q: #1 solve for x: x+8+3(x-8) < 0?
#2 solve for y : y+6-2(y-4) > 0

#3 the difference between the record high and low temperatures in chicago, Illinois is 109*F . the record low temperature was -5*F. use an equation to find the record high temperature!

#4 use the formula d=rt to find the distance traveled in a car driven at 45 mile per hour for 5 hours.

A: x < 16

y < -2

104 = -5 +109

225 = 5 x 45

Q: Do you ever have a good laugh at some of the things you find on the web?
Strange U.S. Sex Laws
– In Bakersfield, California, anyone having intercourse with Satan
must use a condom. (An asbestos one we presume.)

– In Oblong, Illinois, it’s punishable by law to make love while
hunting or fishing on your wedding day.

– In Minnesota, it is illegal for any man to have sexual intercourse
with a live fish. (Apparently it’s OK for woman.)

– No man is allowed to make love to his wife with the smell of garlic,
onions, or sardines on his breath in Alexandria, Minnesota. If his wife
so requests, law mandates that he must brush his teeth.

– Warn your hubby that after lovemaking in Ames, Iowa, he isn’t
allowed to take more than three gulps of beer while lying in bed with
you — or holding you in his arms.

– Bozeman, Montana, has a law that bans all sexual activity between
members of the opposite sex in the front yard of a home after sundown –
if they’re nude.

– In hotels in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, every room is required to
have twin beds. And the beds must always be a minimum of two feet apart
when a couple rents a room for only one night. And it’s illegal to make
love on the floor between the beds!

– The owner of every hotel in Hastings, Nebraska, is required to
provide each guest with a clean and pressed nightshirt. No couple, even
if they are married, may sleep together in the nude. Nor may they have
sex unless they are wearing one of these clean, white cotton
nightshirts.

– An ordinance in Newcastle, Wyoming, specifically bans couples from
having sex while standing inside a store’s walk-in meat freezer!

– A state law in Illinois mandates that all bachelors should be called
master, not mister, when addressed by their female counterparts.

– In Romboch, Virg inia, it is illegal to engage in sexual activity
with the lights on.

– In Merryville, Missouri, women are prohibited from wearing corsets
because “the privilege of admiring the curvaceous, unencumbered body of
a young woman should not be denied to the normal, red-blooded American
male.”

– It’s safe to make love while parked in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Police
officers aren’t allowed to walk up and knock on the window. Any
suspicious officer who thinks that sex is taking place must drive up
from behind, honk his horn three times and wait approximately two
minutes before getting out of his car to investigate.

– A law in Helena, Montana, mandates that a woman can’t dance on a
table in a saloon or bar unless she has on at least three pounds, two
ounces of clothing. (Ouch! These pasties hurt!)

– Anywhere in the U.S., it’s illegal to use any live endangered
species, excepting insects, in public or private sexual displays, shows
or exhibits depicting cross-species sex. (Insectophiles apparently were
successful in their lobbying efforts.)

– Lovers in Liberty Corner, New Jersey, should avoid satisfying their
lustful urges in a parked car. If the horn accidentally sounds while
they are frolicking behind the wheel, the couple can face a jail term.

– In Carlsbad, New Mexico, it’s legal for couples to have sex in a
parked vehicle during their lunch break from work, as long as the car or
van has drawn curtains to stop strangers from peeking in.

– Women aren’t allowed to wear patent-leather shoes in Cleveland, Ohio
- a man might see the reflection of something “he oughtn’t!”

– No woman may have sex with a man while riding in an ambulance within

A: Regarding the last one, I wonder if the Carson City, NV novelty costume shop “Costumes ‘R US, Perfect Fit For Any Occasion” knows about this law. Apparently it is okay to wear one before or after business is officially finished.

Q: Two-part question about Projekt Revolution.?
Question #1

Is the concert in Tinley Park, Illinois a parking only concert? Does this mean I can’t get in using public transportation?

Question #2

If Projekt Revolution isn’t an event where I need to park a car in order to enter, is there any way to get to the First Midwest Bank Ampitheatre using the Metra and some form of transportation.

A: I expect that you can get to the area of the venue via public transportation. I hope that you do realize that every ticket to a show at First Midwest Bank Amplitheater has a variable parking fee automatically included (http://www.ticketmaster.com/venue/32837 ). The Metra/Rock Island train line has 2 relatively close stations (http://metrarail.com/Sched/ri/ri.shtml ) in Tinley Park. There does not seem to be any Pace bus route the passes close to the Amplitheater (http://www.pacebus.com ). Pace bus route #354 is the closest. It seems that a suburban taxi will be needed for at least part of your way.

Q: 2 questions related to underage drinking and drug paraphernalia?
1) I was pulled over last month for a broken turn signal, he arrested my passenger for a burglary warrant. We verified with the cop that my turn signal wasn’t working and he let me off with a warning. After this he comes back from his car and says that I looked “nervous” after he pulled me over. He asks if he could search the car and I gave him permission. He finds a hitter and some old cannabis in a cigarette box at the bottom of a shoebox full of trading cards (which I forgot was there) He asked me who’s it was and I said it wasn’t mine. He told me and the person in my backseat that we weren’t going anywhere until he found out who it belonged too. I eventually gave in and said it was mine. He arrested me and said I was being charged for drug paraphernalia, throwing out the weed. My question is if I could have some kind of defense in court, what I should do? Should I use my public defender? I cant afford a lawyer. I live in Illinois by the way.
2) A month later, last week, my friend and I were coming back from a party. He was pulled over for failing to turn off his turn signal. My friend was undeniably drunk. They said the car smelt like alcohol and asked if we’d been drinking. We denied and my friend was given a sobriety test which he failed. The cop comes to the passenger side of the car and asks again if I was drinking. He said if I didn’t lie he would let me walk away free of charge. I said I haven’t again, he then breathalyzes me and it took a good 7 times before it read what my BAC was. It came up as .076 or something and he arrested me there and took me to jail for underage consumption. Same questions as above, Is there any way I can get out of this? Should I use a public defender? Thanks in advance for reading all this and any answers.

A: In the first scenario, the Officer asks your permission to search your car and you agree. Anything found after this point can and will be admitted in a court of law. Whether you use a public defender or private attorney, you allowed the search and then you admitted the paraphernalia was yours. You won’t have a defense to stand one in that case. Although you can more than likely have a reduced sentence in using a private attorney. A public defender will give you a legal defense, but he is not going to try to get the best deal possible in your behalf.

In the second scenario, the traffic stop is legitimate. During the course of the stop, the Officer detected the small of alcohol, giving him probable cause. The driver then failed a sobriety test. When you were asked, you denied drinking. You were given an opportunity to walk if you admitted to drinking and you still denied it. A breathalyzer showed a level just below legally drunk and you were arrested. I don’t see any loopholes in this either. You were given opportunities and when you didn’t take them, you were subjected to all the same procedures and rules like anyone else. Again, as with the first scenario, you will stand a far greater likelihood of a reduced sentence in retaining private counsel, but this is your choice alone.

Best of luck and I hope this is useful to you

Q: Are Politicians Who Voted Against Self-Defense Fit For Office?
On December 28, 2003, in Wilmette, Illinois, Hale DeMar shot an intruder who had previously stolen his car.

While Cook County prosecutors declined to prosecute him for the shooting, the village of Wilmette prosecuted him for violating the local handgun ban.

The Illinois General Assembly passed a bill As a result of this shooting, the State Legislature passed a law making it legal to use a handgun in self-defense in your own home; the House passed it by 86-25 and the Senate passed this by 38-20.

Are the legislators who voted against this law fit for ANY political office?
To word it a bit better, they passed a law allowing people who used handguns to defend against intruders to assert self-defense as a defense against prosecution for violating local handgun bans.

A: nope! and according the www.thomas.gov, the governments library of congress online. obama voted no to this.
check it people!!

Q: what airline is generally cheapest?
PLEASE READ!!! at the end of this summer I’m looking to fly to visit 2 colleges i’m interested in, one in Illinois and one in Vermont. i live in Florida, and my family is not rich so we’re looking to do these visits as cheaply as we can. to minimize cost we want to fly from tampa FL to Illinois then straight from Illinois to Vermont. so i want to know what airlines are generally cheapest.

ALSO the college we’re going to in Illinois is in bloomington, a fairly small town, so would it be cheaper to try to fly into that airport even if we have to use connecting flights, or would it be cheaper to fly direct from tampa to chicago then rent a car and drive 2 hours to bloomington?

thank you so much! i would appreciate any answers or insight you can offer!

A: What I like to do is go to Southwest (or most any other airlines’) website and plug in the information, which will give me the flight schedule and the pricing chart. You can play around with it to find out the best (cheapest) days to fly and how much a rental car will set you back.

I know SWA flies nonstop from Tampa to Chicago, but not knowing exactly where Bloomington is, I can’t tell which would be better: the rental car or the flight directly into Bloomington.

A: Southwest is probably the cheapest. But you need to check the airports they service. They fly into Chicago (Midway Airport), but they do not fly into Vermont. For Vermont you will probably have to fly into Providence Rhode Island or Manchester New Hampshire.
Then you’ll have to drive the rest of the way.

A: you can check southwest. its fairly cheap. connecting flights are cheaper than direct flights.

Q: Have you ever been told this by a cop?
First off, I realize this was my fault, but I simply want to know if anyone else has been told this?

I’ll start off with saying I am from Illinois, and probably like most other states, IL states that your windshield has to be obstruction free. Okay, that’s fine. I understand that. But I guess it never occured to me about the GPS Systems that have the suction cup you stick to your windshield, type in a destination, and go. When you purchase one, a booklet tells you placements on windshelds that are best.. okay.. so when I had a state cop write me up a warning for having it in my window.. and all 3 of us in the car REPEATEDLY asked him where he would like us to place it instead.. it went badly. He kept pointing down by our knees. What?! Seriously? What is it suppose to stick to, for one? And THEN, he proceeded to say well the cord cant be across the dash, either. he said IL state law says the area below the rear view mirror and above the dashboard line must be kept clear. He said an option would be to put the GPS device way over in the corner of the window but that the cord cannot be draped over your lap or steering column.. so there’s no way to get the stupid cord over there haha and it’d STILL be in the window! I don’t get why he said to put it there if he’s still saying stick it in the window. He made it very clear when he wrote me the warning that the windshield has to be kept clear. I don’t get why he suggested sticking it on the side? But anyway. My friend asked him if he’d simply like it placed in a cup holder since he kept pointing to have it low (like knee level) and he said “No, you’re not suppose to take your eyes off the road.” Oh, come on now! I realize this but he was contradicting himself and confusing us and he was being a jerk in the process. We asked him to place it where he’d like it and he refused. My fiance at the time was also a cop and when I asked him, he said that was retarded since you’re suppose to place them in your window, yet it’s still illegal. The cop that wrote me up also saw my radar detector, which I hadn’t been using, and he said that it is not illegal to use in the state, yet it cannot be in the window either. Did I just get stuck dealing with a jerk of a state cop?! I’m just confused.. I use it on a long cross country trip, as well as when I am away at college in Alaska, and even when being stuck in a random seat belt check in the state of Tennessee, the cop saw my GPS unit in the window and he even helped show me a different direction on the map. He didn’t care that it was in the window. I’m not going to go research Tennessee’s policy of what can be in your windshield or not, but has anyone else been told this by a cop?? I see people driving all the time with these devices stuck to their window. If you use them, where do you place them when in use?? I would have been way more angry had he given me a ticket, but I still don’t know where to put it. I have a 2007 G5, I’ll just put it in my cup holder (the suction cup part fits perfectly) from now on anyway and listen to it instead of really looking at it. But really, what do you do with them?

A: As far as the GPS goes, they also make air vent mount kits, which is what I recommend. Your eyes don’t go far from the road, it’s not obstructing the windshield. I think maybe the guy was having a bad day and decided to actually enforce that particular law (I ususually don’t unless it is really blocking the driver’s view). We all have them, you can’t fault the guy for that, but an air vent mount is a better solution for your car. You can find them on eBay and most air vents are in a good position in the car that you don’t take your eyes way off the road.

Q: How do I lift this curse?
I am a highly educated, 30-something year old lady. I am very logical and analytical, therefore I don’t generally believe in curses of any kind. I love the paranormal but am more into debunking or examining the unexplained than I am claiming any of it for myself. That is why this is such an unusual question for me.

I think I’ve been cursed. Something, some kind of powerful bad energy has been affecting my health this entire past year of 2009, and I need to figure out a way to get it lifted or removed. My job is in jeopardy, my children’s emotions, my future and health. Not to mention my mental health!

This year I have suffered unusual sickness’s mercilessly. It started out when I was divorced in December 2008. Then I began losing weight, which I regarded as a good thing at first, but now this past year I have lost around 185 lbs and look like a different person. I was hospitalized several times for malnutrition/starvation despite the fact that no matter how much I attempted to eat, I either vomited it up or could not put another bite into my mouth. I do not want to be skinny, I love curves. And honestly I miss mine. I’ve been losing from 17-10 lbs a week all year long. Rarely have I lost less than 10 lbs in any given week. This is not bulimia or anorexia- I WANT to eat and I do NOT want to lose more weight!!!

In the summer I started suffering horrible agony and was hospitalized. Two months of agony later, they went from saying it was pancreatitis to saying I had a gastric leak which had destroyed much of my insides. They put me into an emergency 6 hour surgery, it was severe. I got home and no sooner had I mended from that horrific episode than I went outside to do laundry (my basement is outside my house) and fell on the darkened steps and broke my foot. This required more hospitalization. Recently I had a strange shoulder injury that grew worse, and I KNOW for a fact that I did not injure it, at least not while conscious. When the MRI and X-rays came back, it turned out to be yet ANOTHER severe injury- 5 torn ligaments and a severed tendon! That the doctor could not and refused to believe that I had not been dramatically assaulted or thrown out of a car or some such. Because according to him and all the other specialists this injury is so rare that it happens only in elderly, or in young people who have been in severely damaging situations, such as the jumping out of a speeding car scenario. I had not, I just woke up one morning in pain thinking I had slept wrong! Now I must have another surgery to fix the severed tendon and ligaments. I have not scheduled it yet but I have virtually no use of my right arm or hand. And yes, I am right handed.

Then my driving priveleges were taken away due to some ticket in Texas which did not even happen to exist. I’ve never been to this place in Texas! I’ve spent $8,000 in legal fees so far and been tossed into the jail x number of times- which is a place I have never previously seen the inside of, being a regular law abiding person- even though a judge issued a decree in Texas stating the ticket to be invalid! I continue to be harassed in Illinois and arrested for driving without a license. And that is after the State of Illinois GAVE ME BACK MY LICENSE! Every time it is no longer suspended, they issue the suspension again based on the original, non-existent ticket. And generally without warning me so that I have no idea it has been suspended. Thus, I am not only sick but broke as well.

I have had three relationships this past year, none lasted past the 3 week mark. Mainly I felt myself spiraling into some kind of strange insecurity that is uncharacteristic of my charismatic personality. Thankfully I was not in love with the first two. But the last asked, begged me to have a child for him, wanted me long term, ect. When I got pregnant he knew no end to his joy, but two days ago I lost the child. He blamed me, said incredibly horrible things to me and about me, and fled to Mexico. I am crushed as I still have the morning sickness, only cramping and bleeding as well. My children, whom I NEVER introduce to any man, have been crying these past days that the baby is dead. Nobody told them, they just knew.

Now I almost lost my job because of all these unexpected absences. I am at wit’s end. I am clearly suffering from some sort of curse or bad energy- I see no other viable explanation. I haven’t even shared some of the worse details here, the stranger elements that make all these things all the more unlikely.

How do I end this so that I have a relatively decent 2010? I want to stop living if I have another year like this past one! Thanks.

A: I can tell you how to lift the curse, but you might not like the answer. I am a pastor who has been gifted in interpreting dreams. Also, the Lord has given me insight into supernatural healings and why people get sick, injured, or disease. If you want to talk, e-mail me. I am the #10 dream interpreter: Super Saiyan 3.

Q: What is going to be our energy scource in the future?
i just turned 16 about 4 months ago and i now realize how frustrating it is when the price of a gallon of gas rises. when i first got my license gas was $2.85 in my small town in central Illinois. Its now $3.60 and my guess is that it might keep rising. Where are the answers. I cant afford to buy a new hybrid car or anything like that. Is there any chance that in my lifetime there will be a complete change of engine and we wont be using the piston engine but maybe something else. how bout something that runs on water? Basically all i want to know is what going to happen. Will the price of gas eventually start to go down or will it continue to rise. or are we going to have to face the fact that gas might reach $5.00 a gallon. Mybe we wont even be using gas in the future is there anyting that is being tested right now that would sufficiantly change things so that we will no longer use gas
i saw these videos and i dont know if i should believe them or not.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KObTgQBM1Es

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7ZZAfZnvog&feature=related

A: i didnt look at the video you posted but… theres a way to burn salt water (theres a vid on youtube) so that might be our next energy source… or a hydrogen fuel cell car…. prossible electric im gonna guess…that by 2012 well come up with a new source to use because by that time gas will probably be 10 dollars a gallon

Q: California Driver’s License?
I have a CA driver’s license and I will be moving to Chicago to attend college. My mother will be purching me a new car there.

- I was wondering if I had to get an Illinois Driver’s License when I move there or can I keep my California license.
-I was also wondering if California would issue me plates for my new car if it is my first time getting plates and also if I will be attending college in another state.
**** I will only live in Chicago one year before I move back to CA.
—-Will they allow my registration and title information to be processed or will they tell me to get a IL license, registration, and title.

I WANT TO KEEP MY CA INFO

A: Since you are going to Illinois to attend schooling, you can keep your California driver’s license and registration as you are considered a California resident.

California should issue you plates since you are still a legal resident of that state.

Q: Help Choosing Custom Exhaust for a 95 LT1 Trans Am?
I am looking to put a new exhaust on my 1995 Pontiac Trans Am. It is obviously a V8 LT1 engine. Everything on my car is sadly enough stock But I’m just not sure about which brand to choose or what i want. All i no is I want it to be loud, but not sound like a honda civic with a fart can on it. I am going to get it done at Jeff’s Custom Exhaust in Paxton, Illinois. Any suggestions or satisfied customer’s opinions would be much appreciated.

A: I have a 1981 Turbo T/A with a custom exhaust system that I put on. It has Hooker Comp. Headers, Cherry Bomb Glass-packs, and 2 1/2 inch pipes on it. I’m not sure if you would like the “classic’ sound of glass-packs on a 95 T/A. If I owned your car I would either Flowmaster or Borla mufflers on it. In my opinion I would pick one of them. Both companies carry custom built exhaust for your T/A.

Q: Lost Title in the state of Missouri?
I’m purchasing a car from an individual who moved from Illinois to Missouri. While he was moving, he lost the title to the car he’s selling me. This brings up two questions:

A) Can he legally sell me the car without having the title?

B) If he can, what do I need to do about getting a new title for the car?

Any information would be very helpful. Thanks!!

A: He will have to go to the dmv and request a new title. Then sign it over to you.

Q: The DMV suspended my boyfriends license plates? Now what?
Hey. The DMV suspended my boyfriends licenses plates. He did not have insurance a few years back and therefore got in trouble. However he has since got insurance. He was pulled over a few months back and told his plates were still suspended, but he did not understand why because he took care of that mess a few years back. He had to pay a fine and go to court. He went to court, paid the fine as well, and the court said he was fine. Now he got a letter from the state of Illinois stating his plates are suspended from April 20-August 20th because he paid the fine two days late, he thought he had more time to pay for some reason.

my question is, can he stilll drive? He has work, and wants to get another car and drive that, but I dont think he can because he wont be able to register a new car (I think). But can he drive his mothers car and such to work? its not his license that is suspended, its just his license plates. I do not drive so I do not know much about driving laws. He cant buy a new car and register it until his plates are un suspended correct? And why cant the DMV just fine him and he can pay again and they can let him drive? I just hope he can still drive his moms car OR SOMETHING so he can get to work and places.

Thanks for the help

A: If only his plates, not his license, are suspended, he can drive mom’s car, but he needs to know where she keeps her insurance ID card–in the car! You’re right, he can’t buy/register a new car with suspended plates, so he’ll need to clear that suspension before trying that.

Q: Ex vs Si HELP!?
I am buying a new car and i dont know which to get.Cause i dont know how much the insurance would cost for the si amd im only 16 so.But i would put it under my parents name. Or get the ex and tune it up but i dont know if it is worth it? Also what would the insurance be for both. I have good grades and I live in ILLINOIS.

A: first car get a cheap one. your a new driver. slower safer the better for all of us other people on the road.

Q: Historical Traffic Data (speeds & capacity)?
I’m looking for Historical traffic data on how many cars traveled on major interstates and how long it took the average car to travel along that interstate.

I’m especially interested in Illinois and New York, but comprehensive (free) national data would be great!

A: Contact the state’s DMV headquarters (state capital usually) and they can easily send you what you need. Tell them it’s for a school project.

Q: Does this look accurate?
My boyfriend and I are hoping to get our own place in a year or two. We have been together for almost two years now. Would it be cheaper to rent or to buy a house for like under $150,000 under my name. I am worried about how i’m going to afford this. Right now I’m going to college. Currently I am working at getting my Bachelors in Art education to become a photography, graphic arts, interior design, pottery and/or jewelry. I’m interested in all aspects of it but not sure if I could do photography as a career lets say.

Anyways, does this sound accurate for two people? My boyfriend is not in college but he is working in a store but I’m assuming in case he looses his job or something happens so that way I’ll be able to make enough money for the both of us if that happens. We want to stay around 20miles within or around Aurora,Illinois(about an hour from chicago). I have two cats and we have to take them with us. One of them is really picky and only eats wet food. -.- How can I make this work that we can get our own place in a year or two. I’ll be getting my Associates in Arts education by then. And thinking after that to try and get a bachelors OR go to vet school depending and all. Also, I figure before we move out I’ll save the first month’s rent or payments AND at least $700 in emergency money. HOW CAN I MAKE THIS WORK?~ *Do we absolutly need garbage stickers if we get our own place? Do we need a house phone to get internet? what!*

Rent $1,000
Electric (E.O.M)/Air conditioning: $150
Water/ Waste Water: $100
Heat: $125
Garbage Stickers ($20 a week): $80

A: This is the second time you have posted this.
You do not have a full time job so stop thinking about buying a home and concentrate on living within your means and saving for a down payment.
None of your career choices pays 48k to start, more like 30k.
You are spending too much on cell phones, entertainment, over budgeting for vet bills Under estimating food costs. Personal care products and laundry is more then 40 a month.
Start keeping a daily log of every penny you spend including major bills, savings and buying a newspaper. This is only the true way of realizing what you really need and spend

Q: How can I get my own place?

HOW CAN I MAKE THIS WORK?~

A: You can save money if you downsize your living expenses. Prioritize what you really need. Think if you really need garbage stickers, and extras. You can save $80 by not using garbage stickers and save $75 if you do not buy for extras. if you plan to buy a home, you should have motivation to save money for it. Decide if you will stay put in one place. if not, then you may consider renting a home. There are ways to raise money for the house. You can also earn money by doing a garage sale. Search for things at home that you do not need or use like clothes for example and do a garage sale. put some portion of your earnings to your bank account. Include your bonuses and tax refund. When buying a home, you must at least raise 20% of the house price but some sellers require at least 3% of the house price. then apply for a mortgage. Make sure you check your credit report first.
I hope this will help you and share this to others.

Just stick to your goal and be determined. You will get it.

Q: Moving out Suggestions.?
My boyfriend and I have been together for two years and have been talking about getting our own place in a few years hopefully. I set up a monthly payment just incase I am the only one working if he looses his job lets say. He is not a college person but he is working at a store. And not getting that many hours because of the economy. So if we move in together I figured this is how much I need to make to get our own place. We live in Aurora, Illinois. And are hoping to stay around the area. Does this look accurate for two people? I don’t know how I’m going to make that much money.

Q: Do I HAVE to submit a crash report?
I live in Illinois. The other day I rear-ended a girl because the road was wet and I did not stop on time (bad me..). It is my first accident. Her car received scratches and a small crack on her bumper. My car’s front end did not fair so well.. My insurance claim will be taking care of the damages to her car. I decided just to buy a new car. Anyway, it was reported to the police and the officer gave each of us a motorist report saying it has to be mailed in within 10 days. I was just wondering if it’s necessary to turn it in? I’m thinking it’s just for data and I’d rather not send it in if I don’t have to.

A: If you don’t turn it in, your license will be suspended.

Each of you turn in a report. The investigator will read the reports and determine if a citation is warranted.

Q: Why do teens anymore enjoy getting high/intoxicated?
I am 16 (obviously a teenager myself,) but I really can’t find a conclusion to why teens enjoy getting wasted all the time and partying. It doesn’t even seem fun… and now it’s like psychedelic drugs are making a big hit in my area (I live in Illinois.)

It honestly makes me kinda sick… I don’t fit in with popular cliques just because all the conversations carried on by them are either about relationships and parties they have every weekend… or how they crashed their brand new car that their clueless parents bought them.

I even notice things on Facebook! My peers are even oblivious enough to post pictures of themselves and friends with water bongs and bottles of vodka.

In a society where everyone feels like they have to fit in, why do taking drugs and drinking to excess make them feel so “lively?” I have always questioned this since I began to notice how careless people are.

Just thoughts and opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!

A: Hang in there, kid!

High school isn’t life, and usually the people like you are the ones who make it far in life.

Sounds like you have exactly the right attitude, my friend. Don’t worry about not fitting in/having things to talk about with your peers. It’s because YOU are on the right track and THEY are NOT!

Q: Is my girlfriend right to give me a hard time?
Im 29 and recently decided to move back in with my parents temporarly. I decided to do do after they offered me a place to stay while I make a serious financial commitement to paying my attorney in my child custody case.Im fighting for my 3 kids in court to get them out of a seriously bad situation where they at with there mother.Currently I do not have a set income as i just started my own Heating and Cooling business in november. Its been going good but i am entering a slow season here in illinois where i might just have to live off of savings. also to top it off my vehicle recently got totaled so i have to worry about getting a new car. My girlfriend is pretty upset about me moving back because she feels that i might get too comfortable leaving at home and i might not commit to getting married to her later. Also she would spend alot of time at my place to do job searches on my computer while i was working. She feels when i move back she wont see me as much.what can i do?

A: find a new, more understanding girlfriend.
you are right, you need to fix your situation with your children, that should be your first and only priority right now. if she even suggests a problem with that you are in for some serious problems with her down the road.
get yourself situated first and then and only then see how things work with little ms. self centered later on.

Q: New driving License law?
Is it true that for the sate of illinois people who were born lets say….year 1993 by the time they are 16 and get thier license they cant drive after a certian time and also they need a parent in the car to drive somewhere unless its to school? can someone explain to me what the rules are now if they changed even?

A: It’s a US wide law.

Until you’re 18, you cannot drive past 12 AM unless you have a note from your place of employment that is signed by your employer, gives a reason to why you are out that late, and is dated in ink. Or, have a pretty damn good reason. Or, you have someone over the age of 25 with you.

Q: my father passed away and we cannot find the Mississippi auto title.?
My father passed away and we cannot find the title to his car. His car was in the shop requiring a new motor/starter and other things. I got it out of the shop, and my husband put a new motor in and fixed everything that was wrong with it. There was no power of attorney appointed, but I do have his death certificate and registration/drivers license. I now live in Illinois, how do I get a title from Mississippi?

A: That is a job for the executor of his estate. They are the one with the authority to request a duplicate title.

Q: Am I getting ripped off by the Mechanic?
I took my 2000 Toyota Solara V6 into the nearest chain brake mechanics shop. My car had been sitting for a while and the front brake calipers weren’t functioning correctly. The guy there said I needed new calipers, rotors and pads for the front, and new rotors and pads for the back. He quoted me 950, that includes parts and labor. I live in Northern Illinois, about an hour Northwest of Chicago.

A: Might be a little high on the price.

If the calipers or bleeder screws are seized from sitting it’s better to replace them. Also the estimate will include cleaning the hubs and caliper brackets while the brakes are dis-assembled. A lot will depend on the cost of the parts and the labour rate. If you had these thing it would be easier to tell.

I would get two more estimates before commiting to this and going to Toyota is preferable.

Q: Does anyone know an Auto Repair Shop in Chicago that WON’T rip me off?
I took my car to Car-X for just a simple Oil Change and new Break Pads. They charged me $380!! I don’t know anything about cars, so i am obviously an easy target. I’ve been getting ripped off everywhere i go my entire life (i’m 27 years old, so for 10 years now) and i’m just sick of it!! Can anyone from the Chicago please help me??
They literally only changed my oil, filter, and break pads, my written statement shows only those 2 items. I may know nothing about cars, but i at least know to check my reciept.

A: GOOD LUCK…An honest shop in Chicago is like finding an Honest Politician in Chicago…

Seriously, If you go to an auto parts house and buy the pads, you can change them yourself or go to Midas…Here are a few locations..Pick one close to you…A chain repair shop means they can be sued easier when they screw something up – Larger liability insurance…

Q: What is really causing global warming?
I know it is not cars because I am 27 and when I was 10,11 years old, we had winter in Chicago. This rapid warming I am seeing is new. This has just been the past couple years where the four seasons seem to be disappearing. What is the real cause of the warming I am seeing here in Chicago?

A: It is pollution, the system is not linear, so the response is not as predictable.

CO2 is 30% higher than it has been for 650,000 years. Methane is 130% greater. These are two of the main pollutants humans put into the atmosphere in excess, and they are two of the primary greenhouse gases.

Look at the ‘hockeystick’, which shows a dramatic warming since 1950 after a fairly stable climate for 1000 years. In fact, the 10 hottest years in recorded history have all happened since 1990, with 2005 being the hottest.
(see links below)

How’s that for proof of man’s fault in this? There is ample proof, any real scientist will tell you that.

There has NEVER been an article doubting man’s influence on global warming published in a peer-reviewed journal. A recent study of almost 1000 proved that.

Yes, the earth naturally heats and cools, but the rate and amount we are warming now is unprecedented in the recent geologic past. We are doing this, and we must stop it. This is not some political statement or rhetoric. This is science trying to educate a crass, ignorant public of the damage they are doing. The magnitude of temperature increase ALREADY is about 10x that of the ‘little ice age’ of the middle ages, and rate and amount are only going up.

Just to be clear, glacial and interglacial cycles are mainly controlled by astronomical fluctuations, but we have a detailed record of the last 7 cycles, and what the climate and CO2 is doing now is way different and extreme. The rate of increase is much higher than in the past AND the value itself is much higher.

Q: Birthday Present for my boyfriends 19th birthday?
hey this is a 2 part question lol..

my bf and i have been dating for about a year and 2 months and hes turning 19 soon.. he just got a new car and his favorite hockey team is Chicago blackhawks, hes obsessed with them lol. i found some blackhawks car floor mats on amazon.com but ive never shopped online.. anyone know if its safe to buy from that site??

any other ideas would be great in case this doesn’t work out!!
i don’t know much about cars, is there anything i could get for his car that he would like?
he also likes snowboarding, video games, and photography.

oh and im looking for material things not answers like take him out for dinner cause im already doing that. i just would like something to wrap up and give him as well

Thanks!!

A: First of all, ask his parents maybe they have good insights into what he likes. since he likes the blackhawks, why not get him a jersey or something related to it.

jUST BE IMAGINATIVE AND it will come to you. If you cant think of anything i say the jersey or pre-order Call of duty Black Ops

Q: Are you tired of the national news media (CBS, NY TIMES, ABC, CNN, etc.) only reporting bad news from Iraq?
The national media drowns our nation in bad news…hypocritically and inacurately reported. 3/4’s of Iraq lives peacefully, forming local governments, schools, universities, etc. We never see this. Over a million new cars (mostly Mercedes & BMW’s) have been sold in Baghdad since we liberatred the country. If there are so many bombings, why would people buy them? Why are condos and a stock market flourishing in Iraq? We never see any of this. The media has our nation in the midst of a FALSE DEBATE over trivia about the war and the aftermath. Sure there is violence. But if all you reported about LA, New York, Washington, D.C, or Chicago for three years was murders, gang violence ,etc…then you’d think that’s all that went on there. Our country deserves to have intelligent debate on significant issues — not a phony picture of war painted by elitists who wanted us to fail in the first place. When you control the airwaves…you ordain the result. As citizens, demand more, now!

A: YES I am tired of this. I believe most Americans are as well, which is why FOX news (Fair and Balanced) is growing in leaps & bounds. They dont “spin” and editorialize every story.
When a true thinking senator like Joe Leiberman comes back from Iraq and reports on the progress and good things, he is discounted and attacked by the media and those in his own party. How pathetic is that??

You are SO right on with your comments!!

Q: Teen Graduation Vacation Ideas from Chicago?
My friends and I were thinking about doing a road trip or a plane-ride somewhere cool for graduation this (2010) year. We’re from Chicago, and there’s about six or seven of us, mixed genders, in one or maybe two cars. Out of that, there’s about three drivers.

Depending on cost, we can do either a road trip or even by plane.

I was already suggested Panama City in Florida, and there are some cool stops on the way, but we’re not really into the ‘party scene’ as it’s reputed to be :p.

Also, we were thinking New York, but there’s no good stops on the way there, if we would do a road trip. Another cool idea would be going to Hawaii, but if airfare costs too much then that’s out.

What are some suggestions that we can do in general? How can we save up money? Are plane tickets more expensive than a road trip? What are some places you’d suggest? Good stops/restaurants/attractions on the way?

We’ve never done any of this before, so you’re experiences would be much appreciated! XD

A: your better off flying. there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely give you the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it’s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online… otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.

Q: Need USA city where cars are not required?
I’m not very fond of cars or driving. Since my job gives me the freedom to live just about anywhere, I am considering moving to a large city where public transportation and bikes (and walking) will get me where I need to go…

I have a small dog that I refuse to leave so Europe or exotic Bangkok are (sadly) out — I really need to remain in the USA.

Unfortunately, Manhattan and San Francisco seem to be too pricey … and, although I love Chicago, I don’t think that I would love those long, cold winters.

I was thinking about New Orleans (French Quarter/CBD/Garden District) … but I’m not sure if I would be considered a complete freak (or loser) for not owning a car. The palm trees would be nice though.

Other than Boston or D.C., does anyone have any ideas?

A: Try Portland, Oregon.

Q: When moving to a new area, how do you figure out the crime rate?
I just moved to Chicago a few months ago and got an apartment that is in a relatively crime-free area, but only because I live right next to my university so the campus police patrol at all hours of the day and night. In a few months, I’ll be moving out with my boyfriend to get our first shared apartment, but it would have to be between our schools.

The only problem is the crime. Neither of us has fantastic cars, but we depend on them. And being broke college students, being mugged would be the difference between getting groceries or going hungry that week. We know that the South Side and Cicero areas have higher crime rates, but that’s just what we’ve heard from work-of-mouth. Looking online yields user-reported crimes, but as expected, they’re in very gentrified neighborhoods where you get cranky old people that call the police about every kid that wears his hat even slightly off-kilter.

So what resources are there to figure out what the crime rate is when moving to a new neighborhood? Is it all word of mouth? Can you contact the police for info? What else can you do to make sure you’re moving somewhere safe?

A: Go directly to the Camber of Commerce. Tell you just about anything you want to know about the town.

Q: Who do you go to for auto insurance when your record isn’t so spotless? (Chicago driver)?
Long story short, I currently drive one of my mom’s cars part-time, and am covered under her auto insurance (Allstate). In the last 2 years I have had 3 minor accidents (damages $500 or less), 2 of which were my fault. My mother recently tried to obtain auto ins. through another provider and was denied due to MY 3 accident history. Because my mother is now unable to obtain auto insurance w/ a new provider to possibly receive a more competitive rate, I am considering having her drop me, sell me her second car and I then attempt to get auto ins. on my own. My question: Will any auto insurance company insure someone with my history? And if so who? I understand my rates will be thru the roof if anyone will take me on… Secondary question regarding this continued…
OKLATOM:

All mom has to do is list you as a restricted
driver on her policy and her rates will be fine again.
What exactly does this mean? I do still need to drive the car.

As to where you would go, same place you would if you had spotless records, to an independent agent that can find you coverage.

If the new agent who my mother went to would not cover us, then how would I possibly be covered on my own with just any Indy agent? Aren’t there specific insurance providers who insure “high-risk” drivers?
When my mom & I recently tried to obtain auto ins. through another provider & was denied due to MY recent 3 accident history, the potential new agent told my mom that I should have never filed the claims- whether it was my fault or not. This confuses me, an agent saying not to file a claim after an accident? I prefer not to be sued for future damages when an accident IS my fault, isn’t this part of why we pay for ins? At the time of my last accident, various ins. people here at Y.A. told me NOT to handle anything out of pocket esp where I was at fault. My questions are:1.Should someone ever handle car damages out of pocket if at fault? Why would this agent say this? 2.If an accident is NOT my fault should I try to handle this out of pocket as to avoid filing a claim? What if the other party skips out of paying, then I have no record and or repercussions for obtaining my losses other than suing? 3.Where do you go for coverage should you be dropped & no other major carrier will cover you

A: All mom has to do is list you are a restricted driver on her policy and her rates will be fine again As to where you would go, same place you would if you had spotless records, to an independent agent that can find you coverage.

Q: HOW CAN YOU DECIDE THE WINNER AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.?
SUPPOSE YOU UNCLE LEFT YOU AND YOUR BROTHER A NEW CAR EACH. THE CARS ARE IDENTICAL. HE ALSO LEAVES A MILLION DOLLARS TO THE ONE OF YOU WHOSE CAR ARRIVES LAST IN A RACE TO CHICAGO. THERE IS TO BE NO AGREEMENT BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR BROTHER ABOUT SHARING THE MONEY. HOW CAN YOU DECIDE THE WINNER AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.

A: we switch cars and race

Q: Easy to get into Cars Assembled in America?
My dad has arthritis and wants a car he can get in and out of, but he he also wants a car assembled in America. He’s not opposed to foreign brands, he just wants it assembled here.

Currently he has a Honda Element, the seat is the right height and the doors are large and open very wide. He’s getting tired of it and wants something new. I’m thinking he probably wants to stay with something about mid-sized and SUV-ish or a crossover.

I was thinking:
Saturn Outlook – Lansing, MI
Chevrolet Traverse – Spring Hill, TN
Chevrolet TrailBlazer – Moraine, OH & Oklahoma City, OK
GMC Acadia – Lansing, MI
GMC Envoy – Moraine, OH & Oklahoma City, OK
Buick Enclave – Lansing, MI
Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matix – Fremont, CA
Saturn Vue – Spring Hill, TN
Toyota Highlander – Princeton, IN
Ford Taurus X – Chicago, IL
Honda CR-V – East Liberty, OH (+ many other places)
Cadillac SRX – Lansing, MI
Mercury Mountaineer – Louisville, KY & St. Louis MO
Honda Pilot – Lincoln, AL
Subaru Tribeca – Lafayette, IN

A more complete list of vehicles assembled in the USA would be awesome, but I couldn’t find one. Short of that, other suggestion would be great.
Yeah I get that there is more than one way to define ‘made in America,’ but he wants a car assembled in America, he just does.

A: The reason I bought a 2008 Dodge Nitro was it is 85 percent American made, the highest I could find.

It is easy to get in and out of, another reason I liked it.

The GM Acadias have a chinese engine, I think

Q: Can I leave a new computer box in my garage for few days in cold weather (5- 15 F)?
I received a Dell computer box today and wanted to know if I can leave he box in my car garage, I wanted to use the computer after a month.

The garage is cold because of winter and it is in 5-15 degrees Farenheit (chicago USA)

Is it OK to leave the box in garage or does the computer need to be a higher temperature ?

The computer is still in sealed box (unopened)

A: I would NOT leave it in the garage.

There are too many sensative parts in the machine to leave it in those kinds of extremes for a long period like a month. I mean, you’re talking about leaving it in below-freezing temperatures!

At temperatures that cold you risk damaging the elecronic and mechanical components in especially sensative hardware like the hard drive.

Worse yet, when you finally bring the computer inside, the rapid increase in temperature coupled with the extreme chill of the internal components is going to induce the formation of massive amounts of condensation on the computer and its internal components. And, as I’m sure you know, introducing moisture into any electronic component is never a good thing.

So while computers can deal with normal cold for periods of time, leaving your sensative hardware out in temperatures that are a good 20 to 30 degrees below freezing is just asking for disaster! Bring that box inside… put it in a closet for a month if you have to!

Q: what is a good site for FREE auto insurance?
ok so im tired of sites making me give away all my personal information just so i can see what owning a type of car would be a year. the 2 cars i am looking to insure are either a newer lotus elise or a 79-81 Pontiac trans am. im 22 male in Chicago with now accidents or bad credit. i need an estimate or a site, thank you!

A: On www.allstate.com you don’t even have to give you name to get a “ballpark quote”. And if you choose them, it’d be hard to find a better company to work with.

Q: When visitors to the United States leave ………..?
When visitors to the United States leave the crowded cities of the East Coast or Midwest they are likely to comment on the use of space .Boston, New York, Philadelphia and even the central part of Chicago may look similar to great cities anywhere I the world. However urban areas in other parts of the country and especially those in the “wide West” look different. Take Denver or Los Angeles for example. Although statistics show that many people there live in apartments those buildings are small compared to the multi-storied apartment blocks of Moscow, Cairo and Beijing. The mid-size city of Tucson. Arizona (population 700000)which developed in a board desert valley with several small streams to feed it covers an area larger than all of Chicago (population 7million).in Tucson most people live in individual houses. They drive their cars (or pickup trucks) to work and shop in large shopping malls with huge parking lots. perhaps it’s the farmer or cowboy influence ,each family has its own piece of land.
1.visitors to the United States often comment on the usage of space in……………
a) the central part of Chicago b)large apartment building c)urban areas of the west
2.According to the article apartment buildings in Moscow , Cairo and Beijing are often …….than those in Denver and Los Angeles.
a) taller b)more expensive c) more beautiful
3. The average person in Tucson lives ……….
a) in a house b) near his /her job c) on a farm
4. The article implies that in building cities today Americans are influenced by……….
a) cities on the East Coast b) their farming tradition c) the need for more apartments

A: 1. c

I am a geography professor, so I had fun with this one!

Q: Living in New Orleans?
I’m thinking about doing a summer program in New Orleans. So, I have a couple of questions:

a) What’s the cost of living? (I currently live in Chicago, for reference)

b) How is public transportation? (I would not have a car) Also, how big is it, as far as whether it’s spread out or compact.

c) What is there to do? (under 21)

d) Where is a good place to live (cheap, accessible to the rest of the city w/ out a car)?

e)anything else I should know?
Obviously, if I had a relative or friend who lived there, I’d ask them. but in fact, I don’t know people in every single city in the world.

A: a) What’s the cost of living? (I currently live in Chicago, for reference)

The cost of living has increased since Katrina, but is still below CA & NY and probably below Chicago.

b) How is public transportation? (I would not have a car) Also, how big is it, as far as whether it’s spread out or compact.

The regional transit authority (www.norta.com) sells monthly passes that offer unlimited use of buses and streetcars for the dates you select (http://www.norta.com/vendors.php).

Public transit has mostly recovered from Katrina, but service is still limited (less frequent and not as many routes).

A bicycle will be very useful if you live in New Orleans itself and not one of the suburbs.

The city center is compact and lots of people live there. However, the “greater New Orleans area” is very spread out. Don’t try to live in one of the suburbs without a car.

There are lots of taxicabs.

c) What is there to do? (under 21)

NOLA is not a ghost town or anything like that: The tourism industry is almost recovered and the suburbs to the west of the city have fully recovered. I think there is a lot to do for someone under 21, but someone under 21 needs to answer this part of the question.

Do check out: www.frenchquarter.com, www.offbeat.com, and www.bestofneworleans.com

d) Where is a good place to live (cheap, accessible to the rest of the city w/ out a car)?

Check the apartment listings on www.nola.com and Craigs List for housing prices. Please write to me/us or post a question on Answers regarding specific neighborhoods & addresses.

e)anything else I should know?

You can drink the water, the electricity & phones work, and services like the post office, hospitals, schools, police/fire/EMS, and stores & shopping centers are operating.

Municipal services like street cleaning & trash collection collapsed after Katrina and that is why you may see answers warning about the “smelly” or “dirty” French Quarter. However, those services were fully restored in late 2006 and it is no longer an issue.

Regarding crime, use the same common sense you need in every major city in the world and there is little chance you will be a victim of anything except a need to visit the gym: Pay attention to your surroundings. Stay away from anywhere dark & deserted. Pay attention to your feelings – if anyone or anywhere gives you a bad feeling, leave the area. Don’t leave something like a camera-bag or backpack unattended on a park bench while you wander off to take photos. Etc.

If you choose the summer program in New Orleans you will be part of the rebuilding of a great American city.

The city’s website is: www.cityofno.com

Q: Should I move to Atlanta or Chicago?
I’m originally from Detroit…currently living in New York for the past 2 years. I really love the city…but I feel like I need to take a step back and live like a human being (it’s so expensive here). Both cities are major metropolises and offer a lot. I work in the hospitality industry and I have a job here in New York and I can transfer to Chicago (with a pay cut). But I have tons of family in the Atlanta area.
I’m no spring chicken, but my dream has always been to be a performer/singer and until recently I had been really afraid to try as this was “not the most practical idea”. I also want to try my hand at acting. Anyway…I love living by the water (I worked in Hawaii for a year and a half) and I also like mild weather and don’t want to deal with owning a car right now So if anyone has any insight please help.

A: Being from the Midwest, you know that the winter can be horrible!
If I had a choice of moving out of here, I’d choose somewhere slightly warm and pleasant, and that includes the people. lol
In the Midwest, people tend to be as cold as the climate. lol
And since you have relatives in the South….go for it! Give it a try, there is nothing like Southern hospitality, AND the cost of living is nowhere near Chicago’s or New York’s and you will be able to save for that car one day too.

Best to you on your move.

Q: I hit a car while backing out of a parking space in a parking lot and have no insurance?
So this happened in Chicago, Illinois at Loyola University. I was driving my mother’s car which she recently had just purchased. I was backing out of a parking space and there were two SUV’s next to me and I couldn’t really see and then all of the sudden I hit this 96′ Volvo that was driving straight. It barely scratched the surface of my mom’s rear bumper…it was only a 200 repair for her. But, on the Volvo, it like completely screwed up the whole front side as if it were an actual high speed accident. I don’t how it was that bad. The Volvo’s fender, front bumper, headlights, and I think also the passenger door are going to have to be replaced. The body shop is probably going to charge more than the piece of crap is actually worth. So yeah, it’s been a bad day, all because of a simple mistake.
The girl, who also goes to my school, gets out and takes pictures of everything. I gave her the insurance information of the car that my mom had before she traded it in for the new one. It turns out that her insurance won’t pay for it because my mom had me underwritten on the policy to avoid paying a higher premium because they jack the price up for young people.
So I’m looking for advice for you guys. Don’t lecture me on the negative impact of uninsured drivers. I had not known that I wouldn’t be covered until after this mishap. I plan on getting insurance of my own very soon too.
Anyway, I’m 18. In college. No job. No money. No assets. And no intention of working for at least 7 years because I’m going into law school. Parent’s don’t want to bail me out of this. The damage on the girl’s car probably won’t amount to over $2000.00. She’s also from Indiana and not Illinois.
What happens now? Is there any way I can weasel out of this?
Her uninsured motorist coverage should take care of her car. But do you think her insurance company will take the time to take time to come after me in court also considering it was a parking lot accident and there were no witnesses or cameras?
There was also no police report.
The girl’s dad called me and said he was reporting it to his insurance.

Thanks
thanks for the advice. if they’re going to come after me in court like that and cause that much trouble, I’m sure my parents will feel sorry and just decide to bail me out on this one.

A: The best way to weasel out of this is to delay going to college / law school for the next 6 months – 1 year. Get a full-time job and work to pay the girl back. Mistakes happen, life happens. Man up and deal with it. College will still be waiting for you when you are done.

Q: lost license plates for my car?
I had plates on my saturn athen sold it and cant find them anywere to get my plates back, so can i go to the dmv and tell them there are lost and get a new set? And how much? Thank you also im in illinois

A: Since in IL you own the plates and they don’t go with the car, you should have removed them when you sold the car. You can’t really say they are stolen, they weren’t, you gave them away. You probably can say they are lost though, and get new plates to turn in or transfer to another car.

Per the IL web page:

Replacement Plates

——————————————————————————–

When a vehicle owner needs replacement plates(s) and/or replacement sticker, whether due to theft of or injury to the plate, the license plate/sticker replacement form must be completed. Application for Vehicle Transaction(s) VSD 190. (This form is not available online.)

The replacement license plate fee is $6 for a single plate and $9 for a pair; the replacement sticker is $20. If a single plate and sticker are required, the fee is $26. If both license plates and sticker are required, the fee is $29.

If the applicant loses only one plate and wants to keep the same plate number, the person should keep the one plate and submit the license plate/sticker replacement form and fee to the Office of the Secretary of State. A new plate with the same number will be ordered.

If both plates are lost, the applicant will receive a new license plate number unless a specific request is made to keep the old plate number. The applicant should submit the license plate/sticker replacement form and fee to the Secretary of State

Q: car accident advice please.?
On Wednesday i was driving my 1999 new beetle to get my friend, i live in illinois and it had just snowed about 5-6 inches. After i pick my friend up im leaving and i have to go around a corner and as soon as i turn my corner, the next thing i no it that im stuck on top of this ladys cinder block things she has on the outside of her yard so nobody will drive into her yard, well i couldnt see them at all, there white and where covered in snow, i got stuck on top of two of them and they busted out my oil pan, dented the side of my car pretty good and ripped some of my front bumper off. I reported it to the police and i had to get it towed, since i now have no oil pan. The towing lady tells me that the ladys house whose the cinder blocks were, that her house insurance has to pay for my damage, what do you guys think?
uhhh no they were NOT in her yard they were on the side of the road and there not supposed to be there when theres snow on the ground.

A: Lets look at this from a different perspective. Its your house and some one drives onto your lawn and then damages her vehicle. She blames you for the damages that she caused to her own vehicle and now wants you to pay for the repairs. Now that you are faced with her expenses, how would you feel. Keep in mind that you were in your house and had nothing to do with her actions and the damages that took place. I feel sure that you would not be reaching for your check book.

Q: Can anyone help with my stolen car situation?
My name is Holly Hardesty and I am looking for someone to give a voice to a serious issue that I have found myself in the middle of. I am now the proud owner of a stolen 2007 Suzuki Forenza. I am writing this for anyone who will listen and because I want to make people aware of what could happen to them if they find themselves dealing with Bremen Chevrolet Buick in Bremen Indiana.
I have overcome many obstacles in my life including bankruptcy and I finally had my life and credit back on track. I am now a college student and while taking business math I learned some things about interest and realized I had a not so pleasant interest rate on my new Suzuki. Therefore, I decided to look into refinancing my Suzuki. While looking to refinance my car I was contacted by Kevin Wenzel of Bremen Chevrolet Buick. Since meeting with Mr. Wenzel, I have been in turmoil. With nowhere left to turn to. Now I want to tell my story to anyone and everyone who will listen.

Kevin Wenzel from Bremen Chevrolet Buick contacted me about trading in my car on April 5, 2009. He told me that he found me through one of the finance company’s I had applied at to refinance. He said he was sure he could help me with a trade in. On April 8, 2009, I traveled to Bremen Chevrolet Buick and arrived at the car lot around 1:45 pm.
I talked with Chuck Nick first and test-drove a Chevy Impala. A little later, after Kevin Wenzel looked over my credit and paperwork Chuck Nick came back with a burgundy 2008 Dodge Charger and said that Kevin could not help my current loan and credit with the price of the Impala but could make things better with the price of the Charger.
While talking to Kevin Wenzel I learned that Bremen Chevrolet Buick brought him in from California to help them get rid of some cars and revamp the way things work in their company, so he was only a temporary employee. (So I was told)
When discussing the trade in he offered to take sixty days to attempt to sell my Suzuki if he could not sell the car he would write it off as a trade -in. I signed paperwork regarding the exchange and he said he would mail me a copy of all the paper work involving the Suzuki. I signed several different pieces of paperwork regarding the Suzuki, the Charger and the new warranty I purchased for the Charger. I never received my copies of the paper work that I signed involving my Suzuki. What I received was the purchase agreement for the Charger. Several days later, I received the transfer of title paperwork for the license branch but nothing else.
On May 14, 2009, I received a phone call from the finance company for the Suzuki saying that they never received the pay off. Both Citi Auto Financial and I contacted Bremen Chevrolet Buick and they said that they never had the Suzuki or any paper work on it. They also told us that Kevin Wenzel no longer worked there but I was free to contact him but was never given a contact number.
My witnesses Billie Adkins and Kenny Burrington went to Bremen Chevrolet Buick approximately 2 weeks after I bought the charger to look into a car for them. They took the spare key and manual that belonged with the Suzuki and dropped the items off while they were there. They saw the Suzuki parked on the lot and Kevin Wenzel took the keys and manual for the Suzuki and knew what car they belonged too. When they were speaking with Kevin Wenzel, he told them he was from Illinois.
May 22, 2009, I went to the Bremen police department at 9am and filed a stolen car report with officer Spade. Officer Spade informed me that there was nothing they could do because it was a civil matter but the police department would look into it.
What I learned from the police department was that Mr. Wenzel was no longer employed their and no one had any knowledge about my Suzuki. Since May 22, 2009, I contacted my insurance company Unitrin Direct. After waiting, a couple months for their decision on whether or not they would cover the Suzuki Unitrin Direct reported to me that they would not cover the Suzuki. Due to the Suzuki not being reported until sometime after I changed my policy over, even though the Suzuki was indeed stolen the same day I transferred the policy and left it in the care of Bremen Chevrolet.
After being denied coverage from Unitrin Direct I contacted a lawyer who informed me that I did not have a good chance at winning this particular case due to the fact that I do not have copy’s of the paper work that I signed for my Suzuki.
After hearing this news, I contacted the Citi Financial to see if there was anything, they could do to help me with the situation. Citi Financial contacted their insurance company Balboa insurance. Balboa contacted me, I filed all the necessary paper work with them, and they researched into my case. I received a letter from Balboa Insurance this week stating that they could not cover an embezzled car.
Now I am left with two options contact the lawyer and pay him to quite possibly loose the cas

A: For car insurance the easiest way to get a low quote is do a car policy comparison. If you choose the same coverage amounts, you can get an fast quote to compare against others. Use the same zipcode, car make and model, mileage and driving history to ensure you get accurate comparison. To get fast auto insurance quotes, go to http://www.autoadvicetips.com/Auto-Insurance-Quote.html and you can compare the major auto insurance companies.

Q: Is it possible repair shop ripped me off and switched rotors on my car?
Four weeks ago I took car into major repair shop and they put on new rotors and pads in the front. Past five days brakes were making a creaky sound, not a squeal. when I stepped on them. So I went back and waited two hours for them to look at them and make repairs. They were under warranty and charged nothing, When I returned home I noticed a lot more rust on my rotors. Before I could swear they were shiny without any rust. I can see them through wheel. Is it possible they switched rotors on me and had put incorrect rotors on the first time. Or can rust accumalate on them within a month and I did not notice it. I live in Illinois.

A: It is far more likely that when done with the service they rinsed the area off with water. A lot of shops do that. The bare metal of a brake rotor will start to rust almost immediately when it comes in contact with water.

Or it could be that like most people who get their car back AFTER service they notice things they didn’t before because they are paying more attention. I get that all the time at the shop.

Q: Lost car title and the lien holder is still on it.?
A friend of mine is selling ..well is suppose to be selling…her car to to my room-mate. Well she realized that she cant find the title. She went to the Drivers place to reapply for a new one. Well they brought her information up they realized there is still a lien on the title. Apparently after u receive the title ur suppose to get the lein holder taken off of it which she didnt. The bank she had the loan through cannot find her on file anywhere. The bank has to give the drivers place proof that the car is paid off. She paid the car off 7yrs ago and apparently banks only have to keep records for 5yrs. She doesnt know what to do and I was just wondering if anybody out there ever had this problem or knows what to do? Basically she needs proof from the bank that the car is paid off before she can apply for a lost title. Were in Illinois if that helps.
She dont need a loan. She needs to get the bank off the title so she can apply for a new one. But the bank dont have her on record anymore that it was paid off.

A: she simply needs a letter from the bank, stating that they have no record of any lien on the vehicle currently. then she’d take that letter to the dept of motor vehicles to have the lien removed.

Q: Where can I find a schedule for car maintenance and required renewals?
I’m not very good to my car. I always get pulled over for having an expired sticker, I let the mileage go way over 3000 miles for an oil change… I just don’t pay that much attention to it. I just worry about getting from point A to point B. So, in an effort to stay on top of those things, I am looking for a schedule or calendar that lists the approximate dates or time of year for regular car maintenance and annual licenses, stickers, etc. required by the state of Illinois. This way I can anticipate and budget for them!

Specifically:
Tune Up
Oil Change
Replace Headlights, Tail lights
Seasonal Inspections
Tire Inspections, Rotations, Alignment, etc.
Renew License Plates
New License Plate Sticker
Renew Registration
Updated Emissions Test
Renew City Sticker
Renew Drivers License
Anything else that I might not think of…

If you can answer any of these questions for me, or link to where I can find the answers I’d appreciate it greatly!! Thanks.

A: Well, that is one of the smartest questions that can be asked in this section! Better to change your alternator and water pump belts every 30,000 miles than have one break in traffic and strand you with a tow bill AND the repair bill AND make you late for work. Better to save up and change your timing belt every 60,000 miles than let it go until it breaks and strands you and destroys your engine ($2,000)!

Tuneup–every 25-30,000 miles. Spark plugs are in fire and literally burn up and won’t give you powerful explosions to power your car after too long.

If you call your car’s dealer and ask to speak to the service dept. and aske them, they may have a schedule for you. Recognize, though that they will be ridiculously expensive. An auto parts store will give you the same info, just write it down.

Stickers and licenses-the Government Pages in your phone book list the right agencies to contact, and the Library has phone books if you don’t.

License plates–your DMV or MVD or whatever Illinois calls it.

The inspection sticker on your car should have the date punched on it.

Oil and filter change–IMPORTANT! Every 3,000 miles. When the odometer can be divided by 3,000–33,000, 36,000, 39,000, 42,000, etc.

Lights–school bus drivers check them EVERY MORNING. You can check your taillights and rear turn signals by backing up in the dark to something they can shine on and trying them. You’ll see the reflection easily that way.

Keeping an eye on when my odometer passes every 3,000 miles for oil changes, 15,000’s for air filter, etc., and 30,000 for tuneups and belts, and 60,000 for timing belt and CV joint boots (to stay ahead of them breaking), keep me current. I need the calendar to remind me of stickers and inspection, which I always forget if I haven’t looked ahead FOR A YEAR and written it there, or on my one slip in my calendar that is reserved for next year’s stuff until I get next year’s calendar.

Smart question! Do whatever you have to to follow through, because it will save you many breakdowns, headaches, and needless expenses.

Q: financing a car then later divorcing-who gets it when one cant pay but the court ordered it to that party?
a couple finances a car in both their names.later they divorce.the court grants her the car but she has 30 days to get it refinanced and outta the husband’s name.the creditor is calling the husband for the payments because the wife hasn’t made a payment in 4 months.the creditor says they have made numerous attempts(3 weeks worth)to reach the wife by phone but have had no luck.also, she hasn’t contacted the finance company of her new address.the husband had to let them know during one of the many calls he has received from them.they say he has a right to the car since its still is in his name also.the court says otherwise.what can he do to protect his credit?she has made no effort to get it refinanced.what rights does he have to the car, if any?can he pay the deficiency and take the car?even though the court granted it to her?30 days is a week away, seems that she has no intention of doing anything but ruin his credit.just a note, the finance company wouldn’t let her have the car on just her name he had to be put on it and be put before hers.does he have to wait until they repossess?if that happens the creditor says they can charge him the full amount but the research ive done says the 30% law protects him from that(he resides in illinois). need some advice on this.anyone?

A: Boy Howdy.

Honestly, my best advice to you would be to call your attorney and see what can be done at this point. She should have been forced to put the loan in her name before the divorce was finalized. If it’s not finalized, then i think you could have an emergency session with the judge and get the car back.

I think you should try this quesiton in the legal section where there are some who specialize in the law there. Though, most just do guess work.

Q: Mitsubish Eclipse – Good sports car/coupe for price?
Hi all,

I’m currently looking for a reasonable priced sports car/coupe and had my eyes on the Mitsubishi Eclipse. It definitely has a form factor which I like, 2 doors, a nice sports interior and a good engine (260+hp for the GT). Even brand new with a few options, it’s still reasonably priced in the mid to high 20’s range.

However, I have a few questions before I get serious:
– I drive in a winter state (Wisconsin). Any owners in the same area or neighboring states (Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan) care to comment on how well it drives in such conditions?

– Most reviews tend to lean positive, but few detail how the car still feels in the long term, after months of ownership? For current owners, do you think this would still feel like a “fun” car after 2 or more years of ownership? I have a PT Cruiser and after a few years (3 1/2), it’s just not doing it for me anymore.

Any other model suggestions are welcome to. I’ve looked at the new 2 door Nissan Altima – Looks nice. There are also a few luxury models (the Infinity G35 comes to mind), but I’m not sure if I’m ready to make that plunge (the status the car means less to me than function or styling).

Thanks!

A: the only good eclipse is 95-99 gsx model with turbo AWD.
if you’re only driving for A to B than its ok I guess. The 06+ dose give confort, sounds, good looks, and stuff, for bucks

If you want “fun” go for another car. like impreza since you gonna have snow alot. or lighter car, civic and things….mx5 ?

Q: Any advice for my car restoration project?
Ok, So I just drove my 1981 Checker Marathon back from Illinois to Iowa 412 Miles. Obviously the Original 267 Engine works ok. It needs a new/rebuilt carburater, New interior, body work, rust removal and paint job. Where should I start? Any suggestions on brands of parts, color of paint or other things I should do to this car?? I own a cab company. My colors are green & white. I want to make it into a show cab; not intended to pick-up people. I included a link for those of you who may not know what a checker Marathon looks like. http://www.flickr.com/photos/steffe/370858483/
Almost nothing changed about the way they looked from early 1960’s to 1982 when the last one was made. Thanks

A: If you decide to disassemble it for restoration I’d suggest you photograph every step then bag & tag everything that is removed. From long experience, projects sometimes get drug out and trying to remember where, and how, everything fit can be a bear if it’s been some time. Trying to find parts when they were just thrown in a box or a corner gets to be frustrating as well. Documentation during disassembly is the key to a successful restoration. Good luck. There aren’t a lot of the old Checkers being restored. Mechanical parts shouldn’t be too hard to come by but body and trim parts will probably be pretty scarce, therefore careful removal and tagging is even more important. Most chrome can be restored by local plating shops. Since they have minimum charges it’s best to get it all done at once rather than a little at a time. For hardware try http://www.amkproducts.com as they carry original line fasteners for a lot of different makes. The best place I know for carb work is Pony Carbs in Arizona. They specialize in restorations and can make the original look and work like new.

Q: Question about insurance, registration for a car bought out of state.?
My husband bought an old beater for work from my stepfather who lives in Missouri (we live in Illinois) for a hundred dollars.

We need to get it insured, the sticker on the car’s MIssouri plates read August of 2008. Can we wait to have it titled and registered in our state until that date and still have insurance put on it? Or can we not get it insured until it’s registered in the state of Illinois?

Sorry if what i’m asking doesn’t make sense. We still have the vehicles we bought when we were teens, and at the time our parents did all the paperwork for this stuff so this is extremely new to us.

A: Most places have a time limit to get a car re-licensed and registered by the new owner, it varies by state and can be as little as 4 days after purchase. As for your insurance, it’s illegal to drive it without insurance, no matter what.

It doesn’t matter what the old plates say, that was under your step-father’s registration when the car was his. When you bought the car, he should have given you the title with the purchase amount and info filled out to transfer it to you. You need to take the title down to your DMV, where they’ll start the process to get the title transferred to your state and into your name. You’ll most likely receive a temporary registration for the car while they wait to get that done. Most temporary registrations expire within 30 days, then you have to get it permanently registered and new plates. Once you have the temporary registration done, call your insurance agent and get the car put on your insurance.

Q: I’m moving to a new school my junior year!!!?
Ok so I just moved to this new school 2nd semester as a sophomore, I still kept in touch with my friends and everything, although I only moved like 20 mins away. I’m really close to my friends in my very first school and now I can’t really hang out with them or anything cuz it’s soo far away and I don’t have a car yet. I’m 17 and I think this is a bad idea. Moving to another school at the beggining of the year as a JUNIOR!!? Noooooo! What can I do?! I need my friends:(( plzz help!:,(

A: yeah i am moving to canada this summer and i live in the uk so its not as bad as me. think happy things and u will be fine. u can still talk to ur friends and maybe one of ur friends has a car and can drive ur other friends too. maybe it is for the best and maybe u will find better friends at ur new school, and the school might help u get into a better college and that is a way big plus. and at lest ur not going to a boarding school like me ok so good lucky x

Q: Has anybody been booked for these offenses?
In Texas, it’s against the law for anyone to have a pair of pliers in his or her possession.

In Philadelphia, you can’t put pretzels in bags based on an Act of 1760.

Alaska law says that you can’t look at a moose from an airplane.

In Corpus Christie, Texas, it is illegal to raise alligators in your home.

In Miami, it is forbidden to imitate an animal.

It is against the law to mispronounce the name of the State of Arkansas in that State.

In Illinois, the law is that a car must be driven with the steering wheel.

California law prohibits a woman from driving a car while dressed in a housecoat.

In Memphis, Tennessee, a woman is not to drive a car unless a man warns approaching motorists or pedestrians by walking in front of the car that is being driven.

In Tennessee, it is against the law to drive a car while sleeping.

In New York, it is against the law for a blind person to drive an automobile.

In West Virginia, only babies can ride in a baby carriage.

A: nope
In New York, it is against the law for a blind person to drive an automobile.
well im not a blind person so im off the hook with these offenses

Q: someone please help me?
i just got a new car well my license plates came in inlcuding the papers and stickers that were taped on the back of the license plates well i was driving and the new license plates were sitting in my back seat and the papers blew off so where do i go to get papers for my new plates and a sticker for my lates i stay in illinois!

A: Take any paperwork you have left to your local DMV and tell them the story. They can take care of it.

Q: I’m 17. GED , Now need a job?
Okay so it’s October, and my college classes start in January. I just got my ged and i am only 17 and I’m looking for a full time job. I need a new car and just pretty much a job!? I’m from Decatur Illinois and there’s not much in this town, any advice? I hate restaurants so don’t say waitressing. That’s my last resort. I’m a girl so I don’t want to do roofing either lol

A: You really really can’t be picky, the job market sucks!

You might try looking for people you can help in the community. Elderly who need help around the house, babysitting, lawn care, pet care. Ask around and see who you can help.

Good luck!

Q: Speed verses Velocity easy physics question?
Car A, traveling from New York to Miami, has a speed of 25 m/s. Car B, traveling from New York to Chicago, also has a speed of 25 m/s. Are their velocities equal?

A: NO,
Velocity is a vector quantity, it has both magnitude and direction.

In this case the magnitude in both cases are the same but the direction in both cases are different.

So evidently the velocity in both cases are different.

Q: Can I take any legal action when a hotel valet totals my car?
I drove 5 hours from Cleveland to Chicago for the weekend. After arriving at the hotel, 10 minutes in my room the phone rings. The front desk says there was an incident with my car. Turns out the valet that was parking my car drove it into a pillar and totaled it. The hotel paid for our room, is going to reimburse us for a rental car and pay for the car to be repaired or pay us the value of the car if it is totaled. It has been a pain it the butt to get answers from them. I was wondering if there was any legal action I can take against the hotel. The hotel is a major chain. Now I’m out of a car, have no money for a down payment for a new one, had my plans in Chicago ruined, and have spent a lot of time figuring out what to do. Can anyone help?

A: call your insurance agent .. and let them know what happened
and have them advise you of what you need and should do
also ask for a police report
they should be liable for the action and your inconvenience

Q: moving to chicago from houston. Please Help!!?
I am moving to Chicago from Houston in July and would like some suggestions on where to live. Perhaps I should tell a little about myself. I am a trendy black 27 male that is into nightlife, eating out and the arts. I would prefer a modern style new(er) highrise or loft building between $1500-2300-apparently rent in Chicago is A LOT higher than in Houston:) I will be working at Citicorp center so preference is something in the area, although I will have my car. I also heard that rent usually includes everything such as cable, utilties, etc…

Would love to know where all of the black spots are? Places where young black professionals hang out? Jazz bars, spoken word and poetry venues?

Thanks so much and I promise to bring a bag of warmth from Texas:)

A: Rent is not that high in Chicago. You can find a decent apartment in a decent neighborhood for as low as $600-700. And if you’re willing to pay $2300 a month, you can live anywhere you want like a king. do your homework on the rents. Search out Chicago apartment finding services to get a feel for the prices. You can save a lot of money if you want and still live great. But not all apartments come with all utilities included. Some make you pay for gas but give you electricity. Some do the reverse. Some make you pay for it all. Again, do some searching to check it out.

As far as where to live, with that kind of dough, anywhere you want. The good thing about Chicago is that most neighborhoods have their own nightlife scenes. For instance, you don’t have to leave Wicker park or Lakeview or Wrigleyville or Andersonville, etc. to find something to do or a great restaurant. And with so many theaters here, small to large, almost every neighborhood has at least one small theater company. In addition, public transportation is pretty good here so you won’t need your car so much. I have a car but only really use it for major errands (grocery store, etc.). You can cab it if you want too.

To be honest there are “black spots” in the city. But over the years, the culture has mixed so much that most of the hot places have a mixed crowd, like Funky Buddah, rednofive, Sound Bar, etc. If you’re looking for exclusively black bars and clubs, most of those are on the South side. Hyde Park has a couple, the rennovated Bronzeville area has a few places (Negro League Cafe, 50 yard Line) and there are places in the South Loop that have a mostly black clientele. As for jazz clubs, you can try Artis’ Lounge or the Velvet Room on the South Side, or Andy’s downtown or the Green Mill on the far north side. Artis’ is a primarily black crowd, while the othes are mixed. For spoken word/poetry, those are all over the place and so many come and go all the time. The most consistent onces have been the Funky Buddah on Sunday night, Green Mill on Sunday nights (poetry slam) and Rituals at the Negro League Cafe. Oh, and I gotta give a shoutout to Weeds on Monday nights, where I read occasionally.

As far as specific neighborhoods to check out, try Hyde Park, a mixed but primarily black neighborhood. I’d also recommend Andersonville, Edgewater, sections of Rogers Park (it’s an area in transition), sections of Bronzeville and maybe the West Loop area. The links below are for the Chicago Reader apartment finding website where you can get an idea on rent prices, a link for Metromix which has all of the bars and clubs, etc. info and a link for the spoken word venues in the city. good luck.

Q: What is the nastiest section on Yahoo answers?
Wow – I’m all fairly new here and some of the sections are like having your car break down in the wrong suburb of Chicago or something.

It’s kind of good fun in some ways because I’m fascinated.

I’m seeing Religion as not a very good suburb so far Any others that get wound up over the tiny stuff??.

Q: Best rapid transit system in the United States?
I want to move to a city in the United States where there is a good rapid transit system (subway) to get anywhere that I need to go easily without a car including groceries, entertainment, food, etc. I know New York has the best one but it is very expensive to live there as is Washington DC. I need an affordable city with a good transit system. I’ve heard of the ones in Boston and Chicago but don’t know if they are any good. Any help and tips would be appreciated, thank you.

A: The best transit system in the country is the Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (Tri-Met) in Portland, Oregon. How is this for a perk? Ride for free in downtown Portland & Lloyd District. All trips that begin and end within “Fareless Square” are free—all day, every day. Fareless Square includes most of downtown Portland (within the boundaries of the Willamette River, NW Irving Street, and the I-405 freeway), as well as MAX stations from the Rose Quarter to Lloyd Center and bus stops along NE Multnomah to 13th Avenue. They even have Rider Rewards!

According to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), three public transportation agencies, competing in three different categories based on annual ridership, were honored as the best transit agencies in North America. Winning the 2009 Outstanding Public Transportation System Achievement Award means that they have demonstrated achievement in efficiency and effectiveness from 2006 – 2008.

- Metropolitan Transit System, San Diego, CA (Category: Providing more than 30 million annual passenger trips
- Intercity Transit, Olympia, WA (Category: Providing more than 4 million but fewer than 30 million annual passenger trips)
- Greater Lynchburg Transit Company, Lynchburg, VA (Category: Providing more than 1 million but fewer than 4 million annual passenger trips)

The Innovation Award is an award given to public transit agencies that demonstrate innovative concepts in the provision of public transportation services. The recipient of the 2009 Innovation Award is Utah Transit Authority, Salt Lake City, UT.

Good luck and safe travels!

Q: Driving on an unexpired license plate without proper stickers
My MN license plate expires today. I have renewed my plates but I have not yet received my new sticker, so it looks as if my plates have expired. I am currently in Chicago with my car and expect to receive my sticker shortly. However, I do not know if I can fight tickets I get in the meantime. I have to park my car on Chicago streets, where cops are notorious for giving tickets. I also need to drive my car a few times in the next few days. Any suggestions on how I can avoid tickets?

A: Good advice and links for parking tickets on the blog below.

Q: Macy’s of New York instead of Marshall Fields’s. Kind of like when coca-cola shelved coke in the 1980’s..
“It’s not rational, it’s emotional” Says the Chairman of Macy’s North. Really!! Coca-cola shelved coke in the 1980’s. It came back after 1,500 calls a day to its consumer hotline, which brought back the old formula. Same thing happened with the Thunderbird, due to consumer outcry! Only a year ago did they retire the car. So if you don’t think your voice counts, think again. Marshall Fields was a Chicago landmark, and we are losing it. Not just to a company, but to “frigin” New York. And a company full of “money “. They have done the same thing in other cities. Just rip the name off, who cares if it is a century old! Well we care and I’m sick about it. Marshall Field’s stood for Time, something you cannot buy Mr. Macy’s . My source? The Chicago Tribune….which could be someday The New York Tribune. The name changes Saturday (from a Field’s employee) and a rally is planned at 9:30am at State & Washington, outside the Fields flagship. Lets rock the clock right off.

Q: I am going on a 15 hr drive (1000 mi) across the country and worried about my car overheating. any suggestion?
Hey guys i have to go to chicago in one shot from new orleans and its about 930 miles and i am planning on making this 15 hr trip. I have a 2004 Accord with about 80,000 miles on it and was wondering if it would be bad for my car or not. I was mainly worried about overheating and engine failure, Also the trip will be about 80% in the night and about 70-80 mph speeds. and also i have never had my car overheat in the past. i have recently changed the battery on it and its has had all of its mainanence done about 3 months ago. So i would like your opinion. Thanks

A: It should be fine, make sure you change your oil and check your fluids

Q: What are some intresting places around Michigan that aren’t too expensive?
My senior class is going on trips at school, and they’re thinking big, like New York and the Mall of America, or to put it simply, places that are far away and kind of really expensive. So, I’m just wondering where some cool places to go are that aren’t too far away from Michigan (besides Chicago) that a group of about seventeen seniors could go (probably by bus or car.) that aren’t terribly expensive? This is around.. March-April.
