Q: Is it required to have the license plate mounted on the front of the car in Illinois, is just the back ok?
Hi guys! I’m from Illinois. I have my car license plate mounted only in the back along with its sticker. Is it required and necessary that I have the additional extra plate mounted on the front of my car? Thanks for your help!!
A: Most vehicles are required to have two license plates. License plate frames should not cover any of the information on the license plates. License plates covers are not allowed.
Passenger vehicles, trucks and vans must display two plates, one on the front and one on the rear.
Q: What are the legal steps to sell a car in illinois?
A: In order to sell a car in Illinois, you need to sign the back of the title document where it says seller. You also need to write out a ‘bill of sale’ (it just needs to say “for $500, I sell this 2005 Corvette VIN 123456789 to Joe Smith”)
(You can find the VIN [vehicle identification number] either on the title, or under the windshield on the driver’s side of the car) Make sure you take your license plates off the car.
That’s all there is to it.

Q: If someone hits your car in Illinois?
I was involved in an accident where the other driver was at fault and caused damages around 400 dollars. (I have the police report) Is there a limit on the time I have to file a claim? Since it isn’t more than 500 dollars in damages I heard you get like a year. Ideally you should report it the same day but I misplaced the police report and just found it a few weeks later.
A: Property Damage Claims
Those who did not suffer any personal injury in a motor vehicle accident, but still have out-of-pocket losses from repairing their vehicle or replacing other personal property destroyed in the accident have the right to bring a claim for their property damage. In Illinois, individuals have up to five years to bring a claim for recovery of property damage.
Of course you should do it as quickly as possible. But just file a claim with the at fault party’s insurance company.

Q: what would happen at court when a 15 year old is caught driving her parents car without a license in ILLINOIS?
This is in the state of illinois, and also she had run away for 10 days i would like to know if that affects the decision of the judge.
A: I drove my friend’s car while he was drunk and I had no license, not even a permit. Got pulled over by the police for not signalling. Found out I did not have my license. Did not go to juv. detention, just went to court, stated that I was guilty for driving without license. Got convicted, only paid a $75 dollar fine and 20 hours of community service. Did not have my license suspended, so I was able to get one at age 18. I am from CA so hopefully it wouldnt be that bad for her. In court they will ask if she is guilty or not guilty and state what the consequence is, thats it. She will also get 1 point on her license for 3 years.
Q: why can’t cars be sold on sunday in Illinois?
A: This goes back to a whole series of religion based “Blue Laws” that were popular across the Midwestern states, and made many activities illegal on the Sabbath (Sunday.) 50 years ago you couldn’t buy alcoholic beverages on Sundays in many communities, and most commercial businesses were closed on that day as employees were expected to spend the day with their families in church related activities.
While most companies today see Sunday as just another business day, apparently there is not enough demand from the public to get the local politicians to change the law on automobile sales.
Check this Wikipedia page for more information on “Blue Laws”
Q: Looking for options for move from Illinois to California.?
What are the best options for moving a 1-bedroom apartment and towing a vehicle (sub-compact car) from Illinois to California. I did a quote from U-Haul and for a 10′ truck and trailer, it would cost roughly $2,000.00. I also found quotes online for movers that would do the furniture for $1,600.00 but won’t tow the car. Are there any other options I can go with?
A: That sounds about right for that length of distance. You can try Budget, they also rent trucks like U-Haul.
Q: What changes should I make to my car for moving from hot weather in florida to cold weather in illinois?
I drive a 1995 BMW 325i and I am moving to Illinois from Miami Florida. I need to know what changes I need to make to my engine and fluids to be able to have the car survive the winter (i.e. antifreeze, oil, etc.).
A: You named them. Antifreeze and lower viscosity oil. But not until winter.
Q: I bought a car in iowa and when i wanted to register it in illinois they want to tax me, why?
I put a down payment on the car and i paid the tax in iowa but in illinois they want to charge me 1,400$ for registration n paperwork, why so much? I just want to kno what the dealer has to do or what i should do or maybe i have to pay it no matter what?
A: Usually when you buy a vehicle in another state and live in another you usually pay the sales tax on the vehicle in the state where you license and tag the vehicle in. In your case, you bought the vehicle in Iowa but you intend to tag and license it in Illinois. I would suspect you would pay the sales tax in Illinois when you get all the paperwork completed and the vehicle licensed and tagged in Illinois. You might want to ask the person you bought the vehicle from why you are paying tax on the vehicle in Iowa when you will be getting it legal in Illinois. I just bought a truck in another state and brought it to my state. I didn’t pay any sales tax on the truck in the other state but I did have to pay the sales tax on the amount of purchase in my state when I went to get it all legal and tagged in my state. If your state collects what is called personal property tax you will have to pay that tax at the end of the year or when your state sends out the personal property tax. In my state you get a form from the county collector just before the first of every year. As an example, when I get the form I will document on the form that I had this truck as of January 1, 2011. At the end of December of 2011 I will pay my real estate and personal property taxes and the truck will be included in this payment at that time. I am not sure why you are paying any tax in Iowa. Maybe there is some kind of tax Iowa requires from out of state buyers of vehicles. You might also call one of the DVM offices in Iowa and ask them why you had to pay what you did. See if the DVM and the person you bought the vehicle from give you the same answer. If not, I would go with what the DVM office people tell you.

My insurance lapsed a week ago and I was not able to make payment until Friday, but before I made it to their location I was hit and my was was badly damaged. What can I do?
