Q: what would you speculate car insurance payment would be?
For a 30 year old woman new driver on a 2000 Honda Civic or 1998 Nissan Sentra? Average/ballpark? In Illinois.
A: No one here accurately knows. The only way you will ever know is to call your local insurance provider.
Q: car accident that was not my fault?
I was in a car accident in the Illinois. A car slammed into the back of me; I was not at fault. My car is an older car that does not have much value, but I still owe money on it. The insurance company told that my car is a TOTAL LOSS. I understand how and why it is a total loss, but what I don’t understand is. They told me that they will only pay what the car is worth. Now I’ve have some experience with friends of mine having their car totaled, and they had to pay the difference, but they were at fault. Since I was not at fault in the accident I was under an impression that my car would be paid off in full. In a way I still lose because I owe more money than the car is worth, and there’s not extra for a new vehicle.
If someone have any personal experience in this or is an insurance agent or anything. Please help me understand what is going on here.
If there is leagal advice for this please tell what type of lawyer I have to contact. I did a yahoo search and all I find is legal advice for car accident injuries.
COWBOY BILL no it is not the insurance company fault that the loan is more for wat the car is worth but it is also not my fault that the people behind me was careless and paying attention to everything else but the car ahead of them.
A: shoulda drove an SUV
= lil to no damage
Q: Buying a car in the next two days but moving next Sunday. What about the license plates?
My car was flooded during a bad storm in Norfolk, Virginia. The car was deemed totaled by State Farm and they are giving me a check for a new vehicle. I am buying the vehicle today or tomorrow. This Sunday I am moving back to Illinois because my husband is going to deploy very shortly (US Navy). I am worried about the license plates on my new vehicle and what will happen if I drive to Illinois and need to have temporary license plates from Virginia to a regular license plate from Illinois. When my husband attempted to do this the license service in Illinois wanted us to pay $600+ for the plates because of tax differences.
How do I avoid this huge cost?
Can I wait for my regular Virginia plates to be mailed and then register my vehicle in Illinois for new plates? Will this save money?
A: you might be able to get temporary tags for your car that will expire in a month or so.
Giving you time to move and get everything the way you want it . explain your situation at the dealer and maybe they can help.
Q: We are traveling by car from WA down Thru CA then up to NY via NM, IL, OH. What’s the best sites on the way?
We have stops in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Missouri, Illinois, Ohio and finally arrive in New York. It’s me (38) and my two kids (13 and 5). Looking for great family friendly sites to make this trip very memoriable. My son (13) will be the trip photographer as well as journalling to make an awesome portfolio for his homeschool geography class.
We will be driving from Oct – Jan. Stopping in Seattle, WA; Boise, ID; Eugene and Medford, OR; Bakersfield, CA; Phoenix, AZ; Las Vegas, NM; Buffalo, MO; Chicago, IL; Akron, OH; and final destination Albany, NY. No hotels, just family visits and seeing the sites. I have two kids 13 and 5. The 13 yr old will be photo-journalling the trip for his home school highschool geography class.
We are already planning stops at Crater Lake, Yellowston, Redwood Forest. Four Corners, and the Statue of Liberty.
Thanks for all your advice!
A: It would help us all immensely if you could provide your exact stops in each state so that we can better advise you.
Get a National Parks Pass > $ 80.00 Good for a year at any NPS site that charges a fee .
Get the expensive AAA membership. Not only is it good for towing but it will save you money on motes , restaurants and hopefully not car repairs. Sam’s club will do the same thing.
Get a CB radio. There are a lot of places in the West where cell phones simply won’t work.
Get back to us
We back . I’ll try to get you to PHX today then other places on other days.
Since snow is going to be a real issue on this trip I’m going to try to get most of the snow in wilderness driving out of the way as early possible .
Get your Rand McNally out for this and I have personally driven about 90% of the roads I’m sending you down
I would go Oregon , Boise ID>Arco ID > West Yellowstone MT >Jackson WY>Green River WY > Vernal UT>Moab UT > Monticello UT> Cortez CO > Mesa Verde NP >Shiprock NM> Four Corners > Montezuma Creek UT>Blanding UT
I’m sending you north on a loop that will take you north to the Jct of SR 95 west on Sr SR 95 then south on SR 261. The squiggles on SR 261 represent Moquoi Dugway.Moguoi Dugway is a washboard gravel road w/ no guard rails that switchbacks a couple of thousand feet of cliff face at a 10% grade. The view is stunning, Some people that have driven it love it while others still have the impressions of their fingers permanently imbedded in their steering wheels.
If you chose not to go that route then
Montezuma Creek UT > Mexican Hat UT make sure that you do the detour for the Goosenecks of the San Juan River State Park.> Kayenta AZ > Cameron Az- Reserve a room for the 2 nights at the Cameron Trading Post . Day trip to Grand Canyon National Park & back
Next day. Bitter Springs AZ> Lee’s Ferry AZ> Jacob Lake AZ> MTCarmel Jct UT > Hurricane UT> PahrumpNV>Shoshone CA>Stove Pipe Wells CA> Lone Pine CA>Mojave CA > Bakersfield CA. Day trip to Sequoia/ Kings Canyon NP
Bakersfield CA> San Bernardino CA> Blythe CA > Phoenix AZ

Q: Someone bought a car in my name, forged my signature. Can I sue the car dealer and the person who forged?
This was discovered when I recieved a court notice for an unpaid parking ticket for this car I never new existed in my name. I have no idea where the car is at this point. I have all the back up from the Sec of State showing the signatures are obviously not mine. Can I sue the person who forged my information? Can I sue the car dealer? Where can I find applicable laws or court documents to utilize in my defense? When I go to court for the unpaid parking ticket should I fight that it be removed from my records? Oh, I’m in Illinois if that matters.
Thanks for your input. Please no BS posts.
Also: This was a man who did this, I do know him and I have a very distinct woman’s name. I hear this car dealer is shady and has a habit of looking the other way.
What about this car still being in my name and MIA. Could someone get hurt and I be liable later on down the road? Can I get the title corrected through the Sec of State???
A: I’m not sure what action you would have against the car dealer, unless they were negligent in confirming the identity of the person who bought the car. If the person presented valid identification documents to the dealer (or even forged documents that a reasonable person would not know were forged), the car dealership probably did nothing wrong.
You can definitely sue the person who bought the car, though. The problem is that identity thieves typically don’t have any money to recover (why buy a car in someone else’s name if you can afford to buy it in your own name?) So even if you find out who this person is, and are able to sue, and you get a judgment, you might find it difficult to collect on it.
You should definitely fight the parking tickets. You have an absolute defense – namely, that it wasn’t you.
Q: Should I buy new tires or am I doing something wrong?
Good Day,
I’m wondering if I should get new tires. Here’s some info and my problem.
I have a 2007 honda Civic coupe, that I bought when I lived in california with the original tires that came with the car. I moved to illinois for work.
Just a couple of days ago, it was raining. I was stopped at a red light. When the light turned green and I pressed lightly on the gas and my tires just spun and I didn’t move. I let off the gas then did it again and they spun again before they finally found traction and I could move. This has happened to me before but I asked my co-workers and they said that I shouldn’t be pressing hard on the gas but I barely press on the gas, just enough to get me going in bad weather. I have been practicing in foul weather because I really think this winter is going to be bad.
I drove in my first winter last year and being inexperienced, I did what everyone told me, and that was to drive slow, give alot of room between you and the next car and to start slow from a stop. Even though I did all that, I ended up “fish-tailing” when making turns and it scared the **** out of me. So I want to make sure I’m safe since I now go to college and I would have to drive to school everyday, unless the roads are closed.
So I was wondering if I should get new tires that might give me better traction for rain and snow and would help me be even safer on the road or is there something I’m doing wrong?
I have less than 20k miles. I did not really drive much maybe twice a week at my last job because I lived above the office. But other than that maybe 20 miles a day from home to work or school.
A: Simple answer, you need new tires.
Here is the old tried and true test, take a penny and turn it upside down.
Stick it in the tire tread, can you still see Lincolns head?
If so your tires are to worn.
There are different types of tires for different types of weather, you need a good all season tire.
Go to Discount Tire, Belle Tire, Sears Auto Center, Pep Boys and buy the best tires that you can afford.
If you go to www.tirerack.com you can educate yourself and do some comparison shopping before you go to the store.
You may want to consider snow tires since you dont yet know how to drive in the snow.
Q: Can I hold the leasing office responsible for my towing fees?
So here is my story and I will try to keep it short.
Yesterday (Sunday), I installed new Ohio License Plates onto my car, as i just recently moved from Illinois, and law says i have to change to the new state plates. I did not have a chance to notify the leasing office as they were already closed by the time I installed them.
I was in Cleveland, OH for the weekend visiting family for the holiday weekend, and my home is in Columbus, OH. I returned home around 10:00pm yesterday evening (Sunday), and parked in the required parking garage. My car still had the stickered parking pass on the inside which was linked to my car make, model, color – and my license plates were registered in my name, the leesee on the apartment.
When i went to the garage this morning to go to work, i noticed my car was gone. The towing company towed it in the middle of the night becuase the plate did not match the parking tag. I had to take a $12 cab ride to get my car, and pay $110 to retrieve
Once I paid the tow service, they took my parking tag as they said it was required by my apartment community agreement with them. This was wrong because when i returned back to the apartment this morning at 8:00am, i couldnt park anywhere since i had no valid pass, and the office didnt open for 1 more hour yet.
Once the office opened, they told me that they werent liable because my tag didnt match my plates – regardless if the car is registered to me, and regardless that they were not available 24 hrs/day. So not only did i have to pay 12$ for cab, 110$ for tow, and $50 for a new parking pass. They’re response was that i should have parked in a visitors spot. I pay extra to park in the garage, and there are never visitor spots available because i live close to Ohio State Campus.
Can i somehow make them liable for this?!
I just do not think its right that I cannot make any changes to my plates, buy a new car, etc unless they are available in the office, or I run the risk of being towed. I just do not believe that if the leasing office is not going to make themselves available to you to make changes 24 hrs/day, then they should not be allowed to tow you or take action against you during those off hours.
A: I believe that you could as their office was closed and their were no arrangements or provisions made for you in this case. They should not have towed your car nor should you have been required to pay a new parking fee. You were obeying the law by properly registering your car. It would have been more appropriate for them to have ticketed your car and then voided the ticket. I would look into the legality of substracting it from your next month’s rent.
Q: which car is better?
Which car is better for a new responsible driver…. a vw bug or a jeep grand charakee??? i live in Illinois so 4 wheel drive is a plus
A: honestly neither 1 of those
Q: first time car buyer.?
So I just turned 18 in march, i work and go to school both full time. I have a 98 mazda g26 maroon new tires new lots of little stuff, everything works fine but a few things need to be freshened up. im go away to school soon and I would like to buy a better more realiable comfy car. my limit for myself will probably b a 7000 dollar car. I can trade in my mazda and I have 1000 saved up. My mom doesnt have good enough credit to cosign my loan. So my question is does anyone know the next step i would take or where i could go to that lets ppl like me get loans or cars i live in northern illinois by rockford/chicago area.
A: It should be 4-door, 4-cyls, not sporty. I would prefer Honda or Toyota… First time drivers usually have much more expensive car insurance, and it depends from car. You should compare insurance rates while choosing the car – for example here – carinsurance.deep-ice.com
Q: First car question?
Ok im 5 months away from getting my first car. I live in central Illinois and you know what the weather is like here. My dad said im a very good driver and my drivers ed teacher agrees. My dad agreed to get me a nice car. We own a 2001 GMC yukon with 90000 miles on it so my mom is getting something new. But the problems she wants a smaller SUV and it won’t tow our boat. So my problem is i need something that can haul a 21 foot fish and ski boat but not a full size truck. My dad has been looking at the Colorado/Canyon with 4×4 and inline 5. With a budget of about 10,000. I need some insight and your help on where and how to find one of these. And if you have any other suggestions on what i need i would gladly accept them.
A: a Colorado wont last long pulling that boat i guarantee that. i don’t know many mid size trucks that would.your kinda stuck.I’m not saying the canyon wont pull the boat, but you’ll have to compare towing capacity to the weight of your boat that would be a start.
Q: help wanting new break disks?
i just got new break pads but after taking a trip to missouri from illinois my breaks are warped my uncle says that i should get slotted break pads because they wont warp but i have no idea, would it be better because i don’t have a high performance car?
A: Never heard of slotted break discs…but from the minimal research I’ve done, generally, buying “performance” will cost you more, but will offer better braking/stopping – so you actually save money in the long run by purchasing better quality brake parts…
I’m surprised the mechanic didn’t check the disks/rotors when they replaced the pads though! Did you take it to a regular mechanic/shop? Or just someone’s backyard for fixing/diagnosis? Cause yea, generally, the brake discs are examined, “resurfaced” or even replaced if worn down too bad….
Q: I’m buying a car. Where can I register it and how?
I currently live in both Colorado and New Hampshire. I am moving to Illinois September 1st, and I’m going to buy the car from some other state. I’ll have it shipped to Colorado and then I’ll drive it to Chicago on September 1st. So where can I register it and how? All three places? Only one? Help. Also looking to save as much money as possible. (New Hampshire has low tax, Colorado medium, Chicago high… registering twice would also be expensive)
I am in no way trying to cheat the DMV. READ THE QUESTION CAREFULLY.
I am moving! That is all, and would like to avoid paying twice.
Seriously?? First two answers didn’t answer the question, third answer is completely incorrect.
COME ON. There has to be someone who knows the answer, and someone who will actually read the full question.
A: That’s a really dumb idea. You would (legally) have to register (and insure) the car in all three states. First in the state you buy it in. Then in Colorado, then in Illinois. The tax max will kiss you on the lips.
Instead of complicating your life, just wait until you move to Illinois and buy the car there. It will be so much easier that way.
Q: How can i obtain insurance information from the opposing vehicle?
I was in a car accident recently and the other vehicle is registered out of state. I reside in New York and would like to know how to obtain insurance information from the state of Illinois. The police report does not provide the insurance info. I only have his plate number, policy number, and VIN number?
how can i obtain the insurance info for the other vehicle
?
A: Why didn’t you get that info from the driver at the time of the accident? Try going through your insurance company to obtain this info.
Q: Identity theft problem help please?
It is not actually an identity theft but please read and help me.
I had a girlfriend 2 years ago who was an international student and did not have enough credit to buy a cellular phone. Since I needed and wanted her to have a cell phone I made one for her. I live in illinois and she lived in New york. We were along distance couple. Today I found out at a car dealer when I run a credit check that there is a delinquent charge of $615!!
I broke up with that girl almost a year and a half ago and I am not even sure if she is still in the USA.
Should I dispute this charge as an identity theft case?
This charge lowered my credit score from 720s to 620s and I could not get a good rate for my new car either. I heard that this things stay as long as 7 years. I do not know what to do please help me.
A: You are legally responsible to pay the account. It is your phone not hers. DO NOT USE YOUr CREDIT TO PROVIDE ACCOUNTS TO OTHERS.
There are plenty of “pre paid” phones that work just fine if you ever feel the need to be a good samaritan, no need to risk your credit file.
Contact the collection agency to make repayment plans, get this behind you to start rebuilding your credit. Lesson learned? Good luck.
Q: Can I sell a car without a title?
I live in Illinois and have a “junk” car that I want removed from my property. It’s probably not worth even $100, but there are people who advertise in the paper that they’ll buy junk vehicles for $100-$200. I really don’t feel like going to the trouble to apply for a lost title when the car isn’t worth anything, and the fee in my state is almost $100 anyway. Can I just sell the car as junk to someone and then let them deal with getting a new title for it?
I probably should add details…the car is an older (80s) Isuzu Trooper that doesn’t belong to anyone. We bought a rental property last year and the car “belongs” to one of the tenants. He doesn’t have the title for it, and it didn’t belong to him anyway. It belonged to his grandpa who is no longer living. I’m trying to help him out and figure out how he can get rid of it…and help myself out too because we don’t want the car on our property.
A: I transfer salvage vehicles daily, and cannot do so without the previous owner’s signed title. Check with IL dmv.
