Q: What is to look for on a Car shipping company?
I am looking into shipping my car from the state of Virginia to Illinois. I would like to know how to decide best which company to ship car with. I have received multiple quotes with very different prices. I want to choose a reliable company that will assure me the car will get to the destination. I have read that brokers want a big upfront fee and then will forget about the car. What are the things to look for when deciding which company to use? Price is very important but I would like to get the best price/quality offer and I dont know how to differenciate the companies.

Thank you very much

A: I sometimes feel like a broken record but check out Transport Reviews.com (http://www.transportreviews.com). They have ratings and reviews of over a thousand vehicle transport companies.

They also can show you ratings and reviews for companies that have shipped from VA to IL in the past. http://www.transportreviews.com/directory/infobyroute.asp?OS=VA&DS=IL

I’m guessing that page there will be very helpful. For example you can figure out the best your best prices/quality offer based on how well the company is rated on that route… and the price they charge. Pretty cool.

You already have quotes but if you want quotes from some of the companies that are rated well on Transport Reviews you can get quotes from multiple companies at: AutoTransporter.com (http://www.autotransporter.com/)

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

Q: Small claims court, worth a lawyer? Tree fell on my car?
My car was parked in the parking lot of my apartment and a huge branch from a very old tree fell and totalled my car. More damage than the car is worth, over $6000. Neither my landlord or their insurance will pay out, calling it an “act of god.” Had it been storming, maybe. Had I not previously voiced my concerns to them about prior falling smaller branches, definitely. But as it stands, I am calling it neglect. Is it worth getting a lawyer for small claims court? Is there any way to cancel my lease during this suit? Since this occurred I’ve been constantly harassed, stalked, and intimidated. Or is it possible to add on for emotional trauma, or whatever terms you might use? I’m so fed up and I need some help & advice on what comes next. Thanks in advance.
FYI I’m in Illinois

A: It’s worth a trip to small claims court.

Attorneys are usually not allowed in small claims court, but that doesn’t mean you can’t consult with one before you go to court. An attorney could at least suggest what evidence to obtain before going to court.

Generally, you will need to prove that the tree was in dangerous condition, that the landlord knew about it, and that the landlord did not reasonably take care of it. Pictures will help, as will witnesses who could testify about the condition of the tree. Anyone who can say that they pointed the tree out to the landlord would be especially helpful. And, you will also need an estimate for the damage, unless it is obvious from the pictures that your car is totaled.

Q: SO SO SO CONFUSED? dmv?
the illinois dmv said that if you’re under 18 you don’t need a parent to be there but someone 21 years and older to confirm you’ve driven at least 50 hours.

however, for the driving portion whose car do they expect you to use?

the reason why i am asking is because my mom works all week after school when the dmv is open. i am going with my brother and using his car but don’t know if i can?

A: nothing beats a try but a failure kate/try it

Q: Is Reincarnation exist?
I met a person in chat room. It is about REINCARNATION…He used to remember all incident happened in his past life. It began remembering when he had a headbutt. He was hit by car in year 2000 in illinois USA – that time he was in the woman body. He is married with James David Anderson and with a son name Kevin. He researched those people and it is really exist. I know this is very weird thing. And the really heart melting is that his husband not married until now because of too much love of him. But how can he expain all this things.

A: everything demonstrates the law:

silence is a great source of strength

a little humility is in order

do not pretend to be special

do not gossip about others

do not waste breath arguing what may be right or may be wrong

Silence is a great source of strength

do not try to protect people from themselves

the same principle that underlies reincarnation underlies everything

Q: Easiest way to get to Wrigley Field?
I am going to Chicago in late Oct. to see a concert at the metro (which is right by Wrigley). I was wondering if I can use some sort of cheap public transportation to get there so I dont have to drive my car through the city. I am staying right by the University of Illinois at Chicago.

A: The L is the easiest – just pick up the Blue Line or Pink Line at the University of Illinois-Chicago (probably at “Medical Center’” or “Polk”) and take it into the Loop (it’s labled “O’Hare,” because that’s where it ends up), where you’ll transfer to the Red Line. Take the Red Line north (it’s labled “Howard”) to Addison, and you’ll be right next door to Wrigley Field and easy walking distance to the Metro.

Q: GPS tracking device for cheating men?
Hi! I was watching Opra and they mentioned it was a good idea to install a GPS tracking device under your mans car to see if he was cheating. WOW! I think that is pretty cool. But how do they work and cost? Has anyone used it before? Did it work? Is it legal in Illinois? I don’t know if I would use one I’m an old fashion kind of gal, I would just follow him in my car and run him over if he is. LOL

A: I think if you need to use GPS to know if your man is cheating you have much bigger issues. I don’t know if I can’t trust someone to be honest I don’t stay in that relationship.

But, at any rate: You can buy a GPS unit and simply put it hidden in the back of the car. Turn it on and set it to record and then pick it up later. But if you’re doing this then I think things have gone down hill already– time to get some therapy or move on.

Q: 16 year old, 2 driving tickets.?
I am 16 years old and have had my license for about 5 months now. I just got pulled over and got 2 tickets for Improper use of lane, and too many passengers allowed in the car.

I live in Illinois, what do you think my consequences will be at my court date?
how long of fine, and suspension?
how long of suspension, and how much of fine? sorry about that typo.
now that i think about it, it may have been issued to me on December 4th, and that would make me having it for a little over 6 months. does this help anything in the situation?

A: I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the first 6 months of having your DL is like a trial. If you fail to abide by the rules then they have the right to suspend your DL until you are 18. I’ll attach the info I found via cyberdriveillinois.com Maybe the judge will let you go with a warning but assume the worst since you are only 16 and have two tickets already. Good luck and stay out of trouble!
Initial Licensing Phase – Drivers Age 16-17

Must maintain a conviction-free driving record for six months prior to turning age 18 before moving to the Full Licensing Phase. A traffic conviction during the initial licensing phase may extend restrictions beyond age 18.
All occupants under age 19 must wear safety belts.
For the first year of licensing, or until the driver is age 18, whichever occurs first, the number of passengers is limited to one person under age 20, unless the additional passenger(s) is a sibling, step-sibling, child, or step-child of the driver. After this period, the number of passengers is limited to one in the front seat and the number of safety belts in the back seat.

Q: College Residency Status if parents live in another state…?
My parents and I used to live in Florida together, but my dad got really sick. So, my mom took him up to Illinois for specialized treatment. They’ve been living with my Aunt, but have changed all their bills to come up there, and my dad’s pension and stuff is delivered there.

I’ve been living with my grandparent’s but they aren’t my legal guardians since I’m 18. My parents are thinking about selling the house we used to live in here in Florida since no one is living in it.

Since Universities ask for your parents tax form and stuff on the FAFSA every year, would my residency be Florida or Illinois? I personally live in Florida and my car is registered here… but does it depend on where your parents live?

A: Your college admissions office or Registrar will have a list of residency requirements. You could actually be a legal resident of FL and your parents legal residents of IL with no Financial Aid repercussions.

Q: 2001 Mustang Transmission?
Soo this is probably a really simple answer But I Can’t get Near my car right now due to the fact Im in iraq and its in illinois.. But how do I know If I have the T5 Tranny or the TR3650 they used both these trannies in the 2001 year and like I said I can access my car to find the manufactors date soo how else can i find out which one I have

A: check the vehicle codes on the door should have vin # on it. look for the trans code. should be a tr or a t like this TR…AX….TV… 20011/2 gts come with the 3650 tremic not the world class t5

Q: what should i do about my anxiety?
i used to live in SF bay area where there were lots of hills and all which made me car sick really easy and i would take Dramamine if i was going to be in the car for more than a half hour. i moved to Illinois almost 2 years ago and i don’t need to take Dramamine unless id be in the car for more than an hour which is rare now.

my problem is that when i took Dramamine i was usually tired and calm but now every time i go out while someone else is driving i tense up and i get scared easily because im more aware but i don’t know why. im scared that who ever is driving is getting too close or they don’t see that car backing out *which has happened before*

I am fine when im driving but i drive a scooter because we have a truck and im either too short to see over the steering wheel or i cannot reach the pedals unless im pushing against the steering wheel. i know there are adjustments can be made but im happy with my scooter. so when we go out its either my husband, mother in law and now my sister in law *which i have been in the car and seen her drive i seriously don’t know what drunk gave her a license*

so what should i do to calm myself when in the car when someone else is driving?

closing my eyes worsens the fear and sitting in the back doesn’t help because its only 2 seat truck so there are no seats or seat belts back there.
we do listen to music and also just another thing i cannot read in the car that causes my car sickness to i have no clue why but it does

A: Do something to distract you. I know this might not help, but its worth a try. Start a conversation with someone else, take deep breaths, listen to music, even counting the cars that you pass (i know, seems pointless, but at least your focusing on something else.) Good luck!

Q: people that live or visited orlando&&people thatt have been on planes?
live&or visited orlando florida-
i am going there,
its is about 500per ticket from illinois for a hotel 2 rooms 4 people, car, and be there for a week.
we all have to each pay about 500.
well around lil lower then 600.
i want to kmow how much in total i should have bvefore i go.
i wanna do a lot of shopping are they expensivE?
i wanna get stuff for me and friends and family and i wann not be worries about not having enough.
how much have you spemt when you went there?
do you know any travel sites that would be cheaper or any that you have used?
and do you know of any good wayas teens like around 14 can earn enough money.
no permits, not going to get any.
i already havve a job but that will only get mw 300 in two weeks we areleaving in like 2 or 3 weeks…
any help is appreciated.(:

people that have been on a plane-
what is it loike iwill be going on my first one. in a couple weeks like what do they ddo do they check you?
is there like certain stuff you cant have?
a certain amount?
liike what are rules?
and what is it like?
is coach okay?
thats what id be riding probably.
are there certain times that are better to go like really early?
and
i am scared too because i just watched a movie with my friends the plane crashed and they lll died and really bad stuff.
any thing will be very appreciated.(:

A: re: Plane – you need a photo id, in your carry-on bag you can carry only liquids (shampoo etc) in bottles/containers under 3 oz – all of them need to be in a 1 quart zip lock bag.) no water bottles etc can go through security – you can buy water from a vendor before you get on the plane.

You will have to go through metal detector – take of shoes jackets, belts keys coinage etc – walk through – get your stuff on the other side – no big deal

suggest that you not bring matches – lighters, scissors etc or they will take them and throw them away.

I don’t see any budget for your food – there are some cheap places like Waffle House but otherwise you can easily drop $50.00 a day on food, snack, beverages. IF your hotel has a fridge stock up on pop and water at the grocery store that will save a lot.

If you are going to any of the WDW parks – you have way not enough money. Don’t know what kind of shopping you are thinking about – WDW souvenirs, outlet malls ?????

Most of the big activities WDW – Universal – Sea World will cost at minimum $50 – $75 for 1 day.

When I go I stay at a Disney Resort – pay for everything in advance and bring about $2000.

(but I’m an adult and I can do that if I want to) What will be hard for you is if someone in your group has money to burn and you don’t – lots of sitting around watching cable tv in your room while those with the dough – see the sites.

Q: A little growling noise coming out of 4WD?
1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport with 140,000 miles. 4WD drive not really used much. Less than 20 or 30 times year in Illinois snow. Recently, when I come out of 4WD back into 2 WD I can hear a little growling for a while, maybe a mile or so or until I stop and restart. It has had the basic 4WD maintenance over the years (fluid changes) and no other problems. When I use the 4 WD I only keep it active when needed and come out when I get to cleaner roads. My wife, however, will just leave it on after it is no longer needed. This car is in great condition other than a $1,000 air conditioner evaporator under the dash which needs to be replaced. I was thinking of going ahead and having that done even though the car is only worth about $3,000, but don’t want to if I might be looking at a more expensive 4 WD repair.
Bandit_60 – Uh, no, I didn’t. How dumb is that? Thanks. Certainly can’t hurt.

A: This sounds like a classic case of the front axle disconnect sticking. I am assuming you have the Command-Trac (or whatever it was called in ‘99) transfer case (part time 4WD Hi/Lo or 2WD – no full-time 4WD). For details on the mechanism, do a search on “front axle disconnect”, but essentially there is a splined shaft and collar that engages when you are in 4WD and freewheels when you are in 2WD. Since the growling goes away after a mile or so and you don’t notice anything wrong in 4WD, the problem is not likely the transfer case.

I’ve had the disconnect stick on a couple of older Cherokees (‘85 & ‘90) – most often on a vehicle that has not seen much 4WD use in a while. The growling sound is far worse than the actual problem – you are just driving the front drive shaft when in 2WD. It is probably not worth putting much money into a fix as the primary downsides of it sticking “engaged” are the growling and you get a little hit on the fuel economy. It’s a little worse if it sticks “disengaged” as you will not have 4WD, but my experience has been that it tends to work better going in than out.

Tricks to get it to disengage are doing some gentle left/right turns and/or backing up a little. (These also work to engage when you need to go into 4WD.) Sometimes just “exercising” it more (shift between 4WD and 2WD and back again a bunch of times) will loosen the action and fix the problem.

If you’re concerned about long term, You could ask a local “Jeep” shop for an estimate, but I would just leave it alone if it were my vehicle. (I tend to be anal, but I weigh the cost of the fix vs. the benefit.)

I don’t think that your wife’s use of 4WD on “cleaner roads” has contributed to this particular problem, but if she does stay in 4WD on dry paved roads, she is adding stress to the drive train and (especially) the tires. She probably won’t hurt the drive train unless she is making sharp turns on pavement (which can cause the vehicle to lurch as a tire finally slips to relieve the stress), but it is better for longevity if she changes her habits. (Or make sure you get something with “full-time 4WD” or AWD for her next vehicle. :-) )

Q: Where do We draw the line Between Legal and Illegal Evidence …?
Understand what I’m saying. The wire taps for Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich being a case in point. His lawyer is saying the evidence was obtained illegally. Ok. If you say I’m going to kill someone and it’s caught on wire tap … and you actually go ahead and kill someone .. illegally obtained or not you committed a heinous crime and should go to jail for it. Period.

Child Rapists and Molesters who are found with the evidence in the trunk of their car (hair fibers, duct tape and the implements they used to commit the crime) illegally stopped and detained by the Police or not are still guilty of the crime or of being a part of the crime.

Why should they walk?

In no way am I saying Torture should be used. Nowhere near anything like that … I don’t have a problem with wire tapping corrupt officials. They need to wire tap a lot more of them.

Understand. There are some things you must pay for. Period.

Where do We draw the line Between Legal and Illegal Evidence … ? Can we draw a line?

Thumbs up to all who answer. Just give me time to get back and read them. Thanks!
Thanks everyone. All of you have good/great answers!
haboohunter : That’s a very good point! I didn’t think of someone else using my car to commit a crime. I stand corrected.
Shannon I, ShineonRickWright, Haboohunter, reallypablo : Thanks for your answers!

A: Basically, all the rules of evidence (plus Mapp v. Ohio’s exclusionary rule and the progeny thereof) are based on public policy grounds. For example, hearsay is inadmissible because even though it might have some evidentiary value there is too great a danger that the information will be inaccurate; good public policy says hearsay should be excluded from evidence (unless an exception applies). The same public policy approach applies for wiretaps, except wiretaps are of a constitutional magnitude. Wiretaps are a ’search’ for 4th Amendment purposes. That means cops who want to tap into someone’s phone must first show a judge that probable cause exists to believe the person is engaged in some illegal activity. If the judge is convinced, then the warrant is issued allowing the wiretap. By having this non-cop, non-executive branch actor step in and decide if a wiretap should proceed, there is a structure designed to prevent cops from abusing their powers to violate people’s rights. This is good public policy, and it is in the Constitution.

The line is: giving due weight to constitutional requirements, does a rule fairly balance the individual’s civil rights (such as a right to a reasonable expectation of privacy) and the government’s legitimate right to pursue criminals? It’s all about the procedures and very little about the substance.

Q: Should I move to florida? Florida residents please.?
I have one year until I graduate college. Then I have plans to get a masters and or get a job. Ever since I started college I randomly said I am going to move to florida. Last winter I took a cheap vacation there and went to Tampa, Miami, Keys, Jupiter, Orlando all over in my car. I live in Illinois now and hate the state and the politics if you know what I mean.

Anyways I want to move and florida seems to be a nice state. Cheap homes to and I know the pay in my field is less down there but I’m young and don’t care about that right now. Why florida, I love off roading, beach’s, windsurfing, biking and hiking. Yes I have been there during the summer so I know how hot it gets and how buggy it gets. A lot of people say that there is to many old people down there but when I was down there that didn’t seem to be a problem.

I went to all the big city’s and seem to love them all but wouldn’t want to live in south florida because I felt cramped there but Tampa was my fave and Jupiter or all along the east seemed ok but really didn’t get into the country which is what I’m use too.

So what do you guys think? am I Florida approved or not?

A: Hello dear,

I am a Florida native. I live in South FL, and the people down here can be very shady and unfriendly =/. It can be hard to find nice people but there are some here. Most people who live middle class still have to deal with the influx of crime and mentality from the youth who do not care about anything but pulling their pants down and acting “tough.”
Florida schooling ranks among the worst in the nation, you should consider this for your future children. * Our schools need so much help compared to the West Coast and New England area, which has more money put to educating the children well.

Hurricane season is not hard to adjust, alot of the kids find it fun. Atleast it’s not like Cali where you get random earthquakes. You have enough time to prepare.
Because Florida is a multicultural state you find people from all over. I met my friends originally from England, Jamaica, Paraguay,Germany, and France because of living in Florida.

However, I don’t plan to live anywhere in FL after long due to the failing schools, increase in crime, annoying middle class youth acting “ghetto” and the rude people , which is odd because it is sunny most of the time, why they aren’t warm hearted I have no idea.

Best areas would be West Palm, FL—> the village of royal palm beach is lovely. My cousin lives there.
Palm beach, FL is gorgeous but very expensive.
Wellington, Fl is nice.

Jupiter, Fl is beautiful but not diverse, if you are looking for that.
Tampa, Fl is okay, it’s big, and some of the people are extremely ghetto. I would pick a nice suburb there.
Orlando, Fl has gone down, loads of crime mate, the only thing fun is Walt Disney. Suburb===> Winter Park, FL is nice.
Sarasota, Fl is known to be the “Little Gem city” but it’s not for young people, more like retirees.
Port St. Lucie, Fl has low crime, friendly people but old people usually move in this place, it’s diverse, my grandma lives there.
Best of luck xx

Q: how can you be passionate about the idea of letting other people control you and spend your money?
I’m contributing monthly to my retirement and my kids 529 college plans. I worked hard to do so.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Why should I pay for someone who bought a new $35,000 car every 3 years or whatever instead of contributing like they should have, only to saddle their kids with both their education bill, and the cost of supporting their parents from age 60 to 90, or saddling me with all of it.

_________________________________________________________________________________

Why should I bail out the California couple who paid $875,000 for a 20 sq ft closet in LA, only to be shocked when they cant make the monthly payments, and cant take out the equity in their house every other week to fund family vacations, plastic surgery, and backyard makeovers. Real estate values don’t always go from $875,000 to 1.3 million in 2 hours.
_________________________________________________________________________________

Why should I fund the health care of the 400lb, smoking, welfare mom who sat in the back of the class throwing spit wads and chewing bubblegum, while I actually tried to pay attention, only to have the privilege of earning enough to support us both?

________________________________________________________________________________

Why is government considered a magical source of never ending money when they don’t produce or make anything. They only have money when people like me are forced to give it to them. After then having taken my money, they give it to all the irresponsible people in the name of compassion, and social justice, because I’m not paying my fair share, while the poverty stricken high school dropout, shotgun wedding, knocked up alcoholic doesn’t pay a dime.
________________________________________________________________________________

Why does it “take a village to raise a child” when half of the villagers are all living on my income anyway. When I live in Illinois, give my money to Washington, only to have them inefficiently use it to fund an abortion for someone in Wyoming, or buy more ribeye steaks for the 400 pounder living in Arizona who is scamming the food stamp program, or has been on “disability” since they were 19 because their idiot mom used meth all through the pregnancy.
________________________________________________________________________________

Why cant the government stop being the middle man in me paying for somebody else. If I’m required to send money to someone, maybe I can just make the check out directly to them. Maybe I can start sponsoring people like we do those starving kids in Africa. Lets run some commercials, I bet they would be good.

________________________________________________________________________________

If we are going to do all this in the name of compassion, people need to recognize my compassion for people which is that I’m not going to force anyone to pay for me as I go through life. I am self sufficient. I understand short term hard luck situations, but not 20 year long short term hard luck situations. Sometimes compassion is telling somebody: “Hey, idiot, you need to quit sucking at life and actually start contributing SOMETHING because I’m tired of dragging people like you through life”
_________________________________________________________________________________

Anyway…Happy, Happy…I’m in a good mood today.

A: Feel better than everybody else now?

The government isn’t the middleman for you spending money blah blah blah. That’s a lie you’ve been told. Taxes are not your money.

I’ll repeat that, taxes are not your money. Don’t believe me? Go try to make a withdrawal, and you’ll find out in short order who’s dollars those are. Taxes are not your money spent on your behalf, they aren’t a punishment for anything, and they aren’t charity- taxes are the cost of all the services provided to you. Roads that you drive on, schools you both attended and sent your kids to, the cost of educating people around you so you aren’t dealing with the illiteracy of others, emergency services that are on stand by in case you need them, a standing military ready to fight to the death for your well being, the FCC that keeps porn from being aired during your kids morning cartoons.

All this and more you get for your tax dollars, and I guarantee you that you aren’t kicking in what you’re getting back, whether you appreciate it or not. Here you are bragging about your contributions to society, and then at the same time whining about having to contribute. Shame on you for this selfish and irrational rant.
