Q: Are these some good reasons to complain about construction across the street?
We have had construction across the street from our house for a while, and there hadn’t been any real reasons to complain so we didn’t. However, much is changing, and we finally have some reasons why we should. Here are the reasons.
1. Playing basketball the other day, I found I was having a hard time dribbling. The ball was bouncing all over! On our driveway were some large cracks and divots. I remember a couple here and there, but now there are around 100, as well as 4 larger cracks! My theory is that when they had to jack up and destroy the sidewalk in front of our house, it damaged our driveway. I can’t think of any logical explanation, because just last year, I can swear there were 10 at most, and now there has to be over 100. I don’t think we should have to pay for repairs because of something someone else did.
2. Also, the 4th hole in our yard was done around a month ago. When they were finished digging, they filled the hole in with dirt. Apparently, they had quite a lot of excess dirt, and left a pile of plain dirt in our yard. It’s not huge, but annoying! We thought they were just waiting a day to fix it because it was getting dark out. We waited a wekk, 2 weeks, and more than a month, and now with snow, they can’t fix it. So it looks like we are stuck with a pile of sirt in our yard until next year, when it will soften.
3. The cars and trucks are parked on both sides of the street. However, they are parked on our side of the street, rather than the side they are buidling on. So one side has loads of cars ( and that’s the size closest to our house) and the other side has only a couple cars (the side closer to the construction). With the snow here already, and the cars on one side of the street, the snowplows can get one half of the street. The other half they cannot get is the one closest to us. So the street part right by our house is pure mud/slop/slush/muddy snow! It’s plain messy and I have a hard time getting the mail!!!! In the summer, they used to occupy both sides of the street, but ever since it’s gotten cold, they’ve switched to the side closest to our house.
4. I live in Illinois, and I am not sure if I can complain about this. When we had the 4th hole dug, the workers were standing in our yard, only 20 feet awway from our house. There was a public smoking law passes last year. We have the in our yard actually smoking, and that bothers me!
I am not trying to sound bratty or anything. A lot of our neighbors have complained already! We haven’t found too many reasons to complain until now. I just want to hear from you if any of these are valid to complain to the owner who bought the land.
Sorry this is so long!
The problem is, they do have rights to both sides of the street. We just don’t have a snowplow getting there, and it is snowy. I never had this problem in the winter. But the pile of dirt will make a good snow fort for the little kids!
A: Yes! Those are very valid reasons! Especially the cracks in the driveway, you shouldn’t have to pay for that damage! Also the dirt in the yard, how rude! I have cars parked around my house for construction too, two houses have gone up this year. It is really annoying because sometimes the garbage men forget our house because all the trucks block it. I would suggest parking your cars in front of your house in the morning, and then moving it once the workers get there, so the plows can clear around your house during the day. You do not sound bratty at all! Those construction workers are terrible. I would contact the city, tell them about your driveway and tell them about the dirt later on in the spring.
Q: I just experienced something and want to know who is correct? Would it be worth it to fight it or just pay the?
fine and get it done with.
I use a walker to help me walk and I keep my disabled parking placard in it in the basket part of it. My walker usually goes in the back of the van or in a trunk of a car.
My dad and I were parking in a handicapped place. My dad got out of the car to get my placard when a car comes up and stops just inches away from the back of the car so my dad can’t get to it. The person in the car says she called the police on us for parking in a handicapped space with out the placard and rolls up her window and refuses to look at us. So he can’t explain.
I call the police on my cell phone and explain what is going on and they say they are sending an officer out. When the police get there my dad tries explaining his side of the story. The officer slaps my dad with the $250 fine and tells us to leave the premises or he will arrest my dad. So my dad leaves and takes me home. We are both very angry at the way we were trapped.
I want to know what the law is regarding this. I recorded the whole thing on my cellphone accidentally. Can we use the recording in court if we decide to sue the person and the officers.
Most importantly do I have to keep my placard with me. It is so much easier to keep it in my walker. I am always afraid I will lose it and I will with all the different cars I travel in.
I live in Illinois.
Also what will be involved in fighting it like would I need a lawyer and stuff like that.
If you could give me web sites that would help me and my dad, that would be great.
When my dad saw he was getting nowhere with the woman, he came and sat in the car till the police got there. When the officer arrived he was so rude to us. He didn’t even give us a chance to explain or get out of the car to get the placard. He said ” Here is your ticket” handing my dad the ticket “now leave or I will arrest you both”. He had this look on his face like he was going to beat us up if we didn’t do what he said. So we did it.
A: I am very sensitive to those people who park in handicap spots illegally. Very few things drive me up the wall worse than those people.
My problem with this whole situation is that you both were still with the vehicle when the officer arrived. I would understand getting the ticket if you weren’t around and there was no placard. But that isn’t the case here. I am assuming that once the walker was pulled out of the trunk, you would have removed the placard and displayed it in the designated area, correct?
The officer shouldn’t have given you the ticket and overall his manner seems a little excessive. There is no law that says you have to drive around with the placard prominently displayed. In fact, one of their pamphlets clearly states to remove the placard prior to driving to prevent damage.
It is definitely worth your time to go to court and fight the ticket. Explain to the judge that you hadn’t been given the chance to hang your permit and that you and your father hadn’t left the vehicle yet when the officer cited you.
Hopefully the judge will dismiss the ticket, but even if “he” doesn’t, there’s a good chance he will lower the fine if you approach the whole thing in a respectful manner.

Everyone,
Thank you so much for your answers. They all deserve to be best answers and get the 10+ points. I can’t decide which one is best. I’m going let it go to vote when the time comes.
So have a good one,
L.K.
A: I have never heard of such a thing. Several people are in the wrong here.
Placards are not supposed to be left in the window hanging all the time. They are supposed to be removed. Obviously they have to be removed and put somewhere while you are driving. (Yes, I know, most people leave them hanging all the time – I do.)
It is perfectly OK that you keep your placard in your walker basket or wherever you want to keep it as long as it is placed before you leave the vehicle.
The woman was wrong (but I do admire what she as trying to do.) The police were most definitely wrong. The store as stated in another answer is not in the wrong because they usually give the police permission to ticket cart blanche.
1. Contact the police department and ask to speak to the person at the highest level and explain what happened. If you get no satisfaction – file a formal complaint.
2. Go to court and follow procedure. Bring a copy of your placard – you need to park legally at the courthouse. And bring your tape, but it will probably not be admissable. The ticket should be thrown out.
3. Now go to the newspapers and explain what happened – not before. You do not want to get anyone upset at you and make things worse for you before/if it is settled.
Q: Is Obama using scare tactics to try to get the stimulus bill passed?
Obama has said that we are going to have a catastrophe if we do not pass this pork laden stimulus bill. Why is he using scare tactics?

Do we really need a $87 Million polar ice breaker? How is that going to stimulate the economy? I thought we were having global warming and the polar ice caps are melting. Is this just scare tactics or what?
FU – How is this a false list? This was posted on a web site by one of our press reporters. I cut and pasted.
A: Yeah, Instead of sitting down with the moderates and hammering out an agreeable “Spending Bill,” he’s out there campaigning fear and division. It’s for the reasons you post that many do not support this bill as is. Too much self serving special interest, earmarks and pork.

Q: Catholics: Help me understand this.?
I don’t have a problem with the Catholic religion – I feel people need faith – I just have a very difficult time understanding most things about the Catholic religion.
I live in the Midwest – Illinois. There is, without exageration, a new church being built 24/7. And they’re huge! These gigantic churches, with indoor pools, gyms, etc. Why? And does the money that people donate to the church go to this? I’ve seen priest who live in giant homes and drive expensive cars. The money collected in church – I never see it put to GOOD use. I never see where local churches feed the poor, shelter the homeless, etc. But, I do see them sponsoring vacations for youth, building outrageous buildings, hookin up the priest. This seems wrong for a religion. Shouldn’t they be helping the needy instead of gaining material items for themselves?
This is not an insult – an honest question.
A: The question is honest. The subject is more than just one religion its almost all of them. The problem is that the things taught in churches in the past 100 years have been as the parable that Jesus talked about to people 2000 years ago.
See Mathew 13:24-30 and then See 36-43
On the basis of these fundamental facts, a farmer who had worked hard sowing good wheat at seedtime was confident that in due season there would be a harvest. The one would logically follow the other. Likewise, when his farm workers informed him sometime later that his field was producing not only wheat but a certain weed, he was sure that there had been foul play. He knew what he had sown: wheat, not weeds. This new development required a decision. His employees suggested immediate action. They wanted to uproot the weeds right away, but the wise farmer tempered their eagerness. He told them to hold off, for fear of hurting the wheat while uprooting the weeds. Let both grow together. The harvest season would be time enough to separate the genuine wheat from the false.
This illustration was used by Jesus Christ to portray certain developments that would occur in the work he had started on earth. That sowing work was meant to produce the required crop of true Christians to be associated with him in the heavenly government known as “the kingdom of the heavens.” He thus foretold that his good sowing would be infringed upon by the enemy Satan the Devil. The field would produce not only the desired harvest of wheatlike, true Christians but also a crop of weedlike counterfeit Christians. Both would be allowed to grow together until harvesttime, when the separating work would take place. Moreover, this separating work would be a further feature of the “last days,” the “conclusion of a system of things.”—Matt. 13:24-30, 36-43; compare Matthew 24:3; 2 Timothy 3:1.
Today because the people that are searching for right answers no longer are buying the weed like teachings of men.
On the other hand the Churches are trying to build up their business by offering intertainment. They miss the point that the truth of God’s word is free and his temple is not to be made a cave for robbers. The Bible is our instruction book so when in doubt as to what to believe, go to scripture for support. See John 17:3 I hope this answer is truthful as I think your question is truful? gemhandy@hotmail.com
Q: How do you feel about having the miles you drive taxed?
WASHINGTON – Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says he wants to consider taxing motorists based on how many miles they drive rather than how much gasoline they burn — an idea that has angered drivers in some states where it has been proposed.
“We should look at the vehicular miles program where people are actually clocked on the number of miles that they traveled,” the former Illinois Republican lawmaker said.
The system would require all cars and trucks be equipped with global satellite positioning technology, a transponder, a clock and other equipment to record how many miles a vehicle was driven, whether it was driven on highways or secondary roads, and even whether it was driven during peak traffic periods or off-peak hours.
The device would tally how much tax motorists owed depending upon their road use. Motorists would pay the amount owed when it was downloaded, probably at gas stations at first, but an alternative eventually would be needed.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090220/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/lahood_vehicle_mileage_tax
Well, looks like even Pres. Obama doesn’t approve of this, at least not for now….
WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama on Friday rejected his transportation secretary’s suggestion that the administration consider taxing motorists based on how many miles they drive instead of how much gasoline they buy. “It is not and will not be the policy of the Obama administration,” White House press secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters, when asked for the president’s thoughts about Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood’s suggestion, raised in an interview with The Associated Press a daily earlier.
A: That’s outrageous! Plus look at the money we’d each have to pay to be hooked up to all of this equipment. I pray in Jesus’ name that this never comes to pass. Stupid!
Q: How can I beat a wrongly accused speeding ticket?
I was coming home the other day from my girlfriend’s family function in Wis. on Easter Sunday. We were on a two lane highway (one lane in each direction). There were 3 cars a head of me. 1ST a small car, then a large black SUV (Girlfriends parents), and then another car (green), then me.
I had my car on cruse control at 55 mph and following the green car in front of me. We were in the middle of a curve in the road when my radar beeped for not even a sec.
(I WANT TO MAKE IT CLEAR IT IS NOT OK TO SPEED)
(Yes I have speeded in the past when I was younger but that is not why I have the radar detector today. It is just one of those things that you just buy just because. Like a blackberry or an ipod or an iphone you just get it because everyone else has one).
I looked and saw the squad in the other lane from the corner of my eye driving in the opposite direction. Then I looked in the rearview. He started to break and pulled to the shoulder. He then left the sight of my rearview because of the curve in the road.
About a min later I look in my rearview and see him behind me with his lights on. At first I thought he wanted to pass so I put on my flashers and pulled to the side of the road when he followed. I was so confused at this point and then I looked at christen and saw she was holding our puppy in her hands with a baby blue blanky covering and holding him like a baby. She asked why is he pulling you over and I looked at her and told her I think he is pulling us over because he thinks that Boe is a baby. (honest to god that is why I thought he was pulling us over)
I have seen the movies so I know the procedure (lic and registration or lic and insurance in Illinois) so I pulled out my wallet got my lic and insurance and then rolled down the window. And asked the officer before he got fully up to the window (is there a problem office). He then came up to the window and hesitated for a sec. looking into the car. He then said yes you were speeding doing 69mph in a 55 that’s 14 over. I paused with confusion and kind of stared blankly for a sec. and then stumbled with my words and asked the office (I was speeding) he said yes. Then he took my lic and went back to the car. I was so stumbled at what he just said I lost track of every thing. Christin looked at me and said you weren’t speeding and I replied I know. He then came back with the citation for speeding and I told him I don’t think I was speeding sir and then said I thought you were stopping me because you might have thought the dog was a baby. (The way the dog was being held in the baby blanky)
He said nothing about that and started to explain to me my options. (I did ask to see the radar and he said he never locked it in. I know from my CPA class Citizens Police Academy that the officer doesn’t need to lock or show any one the radar and the officer does not need to even use a radar gun. With proper training he can visually calculate your speed)
I then asked to speak to his shift commander at which time he nicely gave me directions to the department and then even followed me.
I spoke with his Sgt. about what had taken place and mentioned to him about the cruise control. (I should have mentioned it to the office when he stopped me but like I said I was struck with confusion)
The Sgt. basically said that I was wasting his time asking to speak to him. I then told him not necessarily I said there is a chance that something is either wrong with the radar or my cruise control. I then asked if I could get a copy of information on the maintenance records on the radar gun and a copy of the video on the dash board. He said I could file a FOI Order or a Freedom of Information Order for that information. So he direceted the lady at the front office to give me the form. I filled it out and received a letter yesterday to pick everything up.
Before the Sgt. went back downstairs he said yep just a waste of my time. I then told him that he would be happy to know that the officer did well in the stop and he held his composure well. He then replied that’s good I am doing evaluations latter this week.
Look I need help I swear I was not speeding and my cruise control seems to be fine. I just bought a new townhouse in this same county where I got stopped and this is a bad way to start my new residence in this county.
There has got to be another reason why his radar said that I was going over the speed limit or there has to me a mistaken identity from the cars ahead of me and the green car.
My girlfriend’s dad did say that he started to pull away from us in the curve along with the guy in front of him when he then saw the police car. He even said he thought that the officer was coming to get one of them. I bought a house trying to take advantage of the housing market right now and help the economy now I am house broke and can’t afford this ticket. I ask again someone please help me.
The radar gun was an ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY RADAR S
A: This is a matter of public record:
1.) last time the radar gun was calibrated
2.)the last time the officer took classes on how to use the gun VS departmental guidelines to when it’s neccesary to take those classes.
every OTHER aspect is he said/ she said
Q: NOW what should I think?!!?
bf of 4 years and I got into some arguments last week (mostly over him having to lend me money again which I did return to him on Sunday but it’s happened alot). I screamed and yelled at him-he said some things to me out of anger he didn’t mean-it was just overall bad.
I went to work Friday w/him saying he loved me and I thought things were fine. when I got home from work Sat am there was a note on the door from him saying it was the hardest thing he had to do but we needed to break up-we eventually talked and he said no breakup-he just needed some time to relax and regroup. I left. came back to get some things sunday (thought he was at work) but he was home sick. I left a note in his car along w/the money I owed him saying I was sorry for intruding. he called me saying he was really sick but I could come in the house to get some clothes. we talked a bit and I offered to go to tthe store to get him some gatorade (he had really bad stomach flu) and said that would be nice but didnt want me to go out of my way. I came back w/it and hugged me saying thank you and that he loved me. I told him “just don’t make me feel used” and his answer was “don’t yell and scream at me.” which was fair so I said I was sorry and it wouldn’t happen again. then I told him if he was going to break up w/me to just do it-I can’t stand not knowing. he just said he was sick, needed to rest and needed a few days to sort things out and that he loved me. I left.
I called him this morning just to check on him and again told him I was sorry for yelling/screaming at him-nobody deserves to be treated like that. he never called back.
when I got to work tonite-his sister had emailed me (I emailed her a thank you letter for xmas gifts) and let it slip that my bf is leaving tomorrow to go back home (we live in az-his parents live in Illinois) for a visit!! he didn’t even tell me. I’m really scared that he’s going to use this time to breakup w/me w/out having to do it face to face. he’ll email or call me to tell me to get my stuff so that when he comes back i’m gone
I’m a mess right now. i’ve already given notice to my apts b/c I was supposed to move in with him next month.
I also found out that he worked last night when I didn’t and I could have come to get my things then (I asked him this when I was there on sunday and he told me not to get my things). so i’m really confused!!
what should I think? is he leaving just to get some air and destress for a while? or is he using this as the cowards way out to break up with me?!!
our anniversary date is tomorrow (not officially though-it’s 2-14 but tomorrow is still the 14th) and the last day i’ll have email access (at work-don’t have it at home) so he’d have to break up w/me while i’m at work.
what should I think? he acted like he didnt want to leave when I talked to him last-just really needed some time to himself.
i’m scared
A: Again, don’t panic. You have to think clearly now. Just don’t force the issue with him. If he needs time, give it to him. Do you really deep-down believe that he loves you? I think he does. That doesn’t just go away, luv. You must try to think positively and give him his space. If your love wont die so easily, what makes you think his will? He’s hurt and like a lot of men, he needs to go to his cave in his own space and regroup. If he asks for that space, all you can do is give it to him but don’t let him think he’s got you in the palm of his hand. You’re in my prayers. It will work out, k? You need to function and show him you’re strong.
Q: should I worry or does he just need some time?!!?

A: 1wishful is right! I agree with her. Clingy and nervous will get you nowhere. Don’t be scared. Love doesn’t just die overnight. Back off and let him alone for a bit, Sweety. He’ll be back.

I also found out that he worked last night when I didn’t and I could have come to get my things then (I asked him this when I was there on sunday and he told me not to get my things). so i’m really confused!!
what should I think? is he leaving just to get some air and destress for a while? or is he using this as the cowards way out to break up with me?!!
our anniversary date is tomorrow (not officially though-it’s 2-14 but tomorrow is still the 14th) and the last day i’ll have email access (at work-don’t have it at home) so he’d have to break up w/me while i’m at work.
what should I think? he acted like he didnt want to leave when I talked to him last-just really needed some time to himself.
i’m scared
A: He just needs time to sort himself out and how he feels about your relationship… Give him his space… and I’m sure he’ll let you know soon enough how he feels…
Just be prepared, you both may end up going your separate ways…
Q: Speeding ticket… College town. Thoughts?
Was going home from the grocery store around 10pm, happened to go a different route. Noticed I was going a little fast(used to the other road), slowed down, 10 seconds later I happened to notice there was a police officer behind me, (very dark, just happened to notice the plate). He followed me for about 4 min, meanwhile I was going 25mph the whole time, still pulled me over.
He said I was speeding and asked if I knew the speed limit, I acted completely unaware I was speeding, and responded that I thought the speed limit was around 25-30.(30 was correct). He said he clocked me going 45 in a 30. I had told him I haven’t been pulled over since I was 16 years old(22 now) etc. He didn’t seem to care, he was back in his car writing the ticket right away.
The court date is at the end of next month. What should I do?
(I’m really a safe driver, the local cops have the college kids by the balls here, very unfair)
Some say fight it so I don’t raise my premiums, as I haven’t been pulled over for some time, and 30mph on this road is ridiculous. Yet it might cost way more in the end. ( I would fight it myself fyi)
Some say if he doesn’t show up, plead not guilty and it will get thrown away, yet others say if that’s the case they will simply reschedule the date with the officer present. Confused?!
What should I do!????
(on a side note, it was 2 tickets as I didn’t have my insurance card in the car, I’ll simply have to show that in court and that ticket gets thrown out. Not sure if that makes everything worse)
State: Illinois
Also, he was hiding in an old church parking lot, the roads were empty and its a downhill straightaway.
A: I was in a different situation, but it still works for this. I caused an accident and did not have my insurance card on me. When I went to pay the citation, I brought my insurance card with me and everything was fine. As long as you show proof of insurance, specifically that you were covered when you were pulled over, that charge should be eliminated.
It doesn’t matter where he was hiding, fact is, he got you. The speed limit is there for a reason…I find some speed limits in my college town to be ridiculous too, but hey…
I think it might be better for your money flow if you just paid the citation and forget about court (but that’s me). If you have the time to waste, then go to court.
Q: I need help really fast please?
Jaws of the Water
ACT TWO
At rise we see DAD, TINA, and MARK rushing in and out of the living room. Each enters carrying important items—such as sleeping bags, rain gear, and gallons of water—, sets them down, and exits. All three come in together, and MOM bursts through the front door.
DAD: Where’s the water now?
MOM: As high as the car’s wheels.
DAD: We’d better go.
MOM: We can’t. The car’s dead.
DAD: What?
MOM: The water is up to the engine; it won’t start.
TINA: Oh, no!
MARK: What can we do?
DAD: I don’t know. (He looks through the window.) It isn’t raining now.
MOM: The water is still rising. The levee must have broken.
TINA: Will we drown?
MARK: Can’t we swim away?
DAD: No! That’s too dangerous. What we need is a boat!
MARK: I wish we had one!
TINA: We’re going to drown!
DAD: (reaching to hug her) No, honey. We’ll just go upstairs. If we have to, we’ll climb onto the roof. (to Mark) Let’s get jugs of water and the camp stove upstairs. I’ll get the canned food out of the basement.
MOM: Be careful! (She smiles and nods as DAD waves a flashlight and exits. MOM turns to MARK and TINA, gripping each child’s shoulder.) Listen to me. None of us is going to be hurt. Do you hear me? No one will be hurt! The worst that will happen is we’ll be cold and wet for a while. (She looks from one to the other.) We’re together, and we’re in our home. We have water and food, and we can climb above the rising water. But just as importantly, we aren’t alone! Other people—our friends and neighbors—are living through this flood with us.
Little by little, everyone will work together to make sure no one is harmed. We’re part of a community. Our family is much larger than just the four of us!
(DAD returns, dripping wet and carrying a box of canned food.)
